They made a good point about how the first victim had multiple witnesses.  Also I find it weird that she turned her sexual assault into a blind item.  Who does that?  Especially from an anonymous account where she would face no repercussions by naming and shaming him out right.

Because anonymity doesn't make her immune to repercussions regarding defamation laws, and if she reported the assault the police they'll know her identity because of that, even if she's anonymous on the Internet ?

The underaged smoking/drinking thing was true because there was pics of him but the school bully thing was proven to be made out but he was still kicked out from the show and the company and basically his career is non existent now.

The underage drinking/smoking was enough for JYPE to throw him out anyway, the company will only keep people with an impeccable image.

And his career isn't non existent, he signed to another company in late 2019 and he's been announced as part of the cast of an anticipated drama

    What a fucking mess

FNC just can’t catch a break huh

Honestly most of their recent problems stem from the fact they don't seem to care about their artists being good people. And it's finally coming to bite them in the ass because the Internet doesn't forget.

The sad part of this is, he's more likely to be booted out of the company because of the revelation that he's gay/bi, than for the harassment.

so is Zico basically giving full control of his company away? For a guy with the no.1 song of the year by a male artist this seems kinda weird especially given how new his label is which he created specifically to run it the way he likes.

Zico is probably already fed up with having to take care of boring business matters - also, BigHit has more connections than he personally does, and they're good at managing and marketing their artists.

Zico is very ambitious, and he knows that his career can only grow so much as a small independent label. Plus he went through a pretty rough patch after leaving Seven Seasons, not having anybody but himself to handle the Golden Phone thing probably made him think a bit about the benefits of having a company to shield him.

How many companies will this greedy man buy?

He's like any businessman who wants to ensure his company's continued success. When you have a successful business, it's just the normal thing to do to expand in order to keep it where you took it...

It's probable that Zico was looking for a business partner anyway ; he mostly created his own company because KQ wasn't doing shit for him, but it means that he's had to care of the business side of things, when he probably isn't as interested in it as anything else he does (like producing music or appearing on TV shows). He sold his company to BigHit because he wants other people to take care of the boring parts, or at least get some help with them, while still enjoying relative independence when it comes to his personal career.

We know JYP will literally cast anyone considering their groups. Like they have absolutely no standards at all.

JYP has standards in two areas : dancing (in order to be considered for debut you need to meet a minimal requirement, and it's a pretty steep one) and personality (if you're not hard working or not humble enough, you're out as a trainee). They have a visual standard too but it's more open than SM's, they'll favor unique charm over perfectly fitting the Korean beauty standard. Vocals though, they're not that important when you only get 2 lines per song.

Japan exports a ton of weeb culture though? Like anime is actually a super huge thing? It has nothing to do with national policy and everything to do with the kpop industry just being more appealing to the masses.

The thing is that the anime industry actively works with the West in order to export their products. These days every single anime is released worldwide with subtitles at most one day after it airs in Japan. Because they had to face heavy piracy, the anime industry has embraced the digital era, much like Kpop - but the Japanese music industry hasn't done the same. So it's not about appeal - but about actually caring about getting an international audience on top of a domestic one, and use the right measures to achieve it.

Well...there were the Japanese concentration camps, Chinese exclusion act (the opposite but nonetheless a racial targeting and othering), the century of humiliation that another mentioned - I know it's stupid to compare oppressions and racism so I am not trying to do that, but Asians certainly have faced some dire situations for their race/nationality.

Yellowface and blackface actually have a lot of similarities. They aren't the same, but both are/were used to caricature, make fun of, other, and use as masks for White actors playing POC. Just look at the yellowface in Breakfast at Tiffany's:

It's just gross. It's not the same as the whole minstrel history, but you'd think Koreans would show a bit more understanding if they knew what went on in other places where they are the target....

But I guess we can assume that they just don't know better 🤷‍♀️ (they sure knew about it when Gigi had her racist scandal where she imitated Asian eyes...)

I think that the main difference is that East Asians are dominant cultures in their origin areas, and have mostly been occupied by their neighbors (much like what happened in Europe over time) while Africans were deported, called savages and colonized by Europeans for a good chunk of their history. African Americans are all the more sensitive that they arrived in the country as slaves, and are still largely vilified and othered.

Korea has a troubled history full of invasions, but these invasions were at the hands of other East Asian powers, not people with a different skin color and a completely alien culture. It was mostly about nationalism, not racism, and it can explain that Koreans don't really connect with AA experiences, even if they seem similar to an outside eye.

Huh? Isn't Babymetal or whoever popular overseas without knowing English or having foreign members?

Babymetal got popular in the West is basically in the same way as Kpop groups :

    - their content is accessible : they have an active Youtube channel, and a distribution deal with western labels which means their albums are cheap and easy to get your hands on

    - their label doesn't fight fan content there are concert fancams all over Youtube

    - they've been touring internationally for years, and they're really good on stage which is why they've received so many accolades from metal musicians

But just wait until they go over to the US or the West in general and find out about yellow face and all that. Then, all of a sudden, another country they are not native to needs to "reflect". Yea ok sure, hypocrite.

Black people take offense at blackface because of the discrimination they've faced and are still facing everywhere in the world.

East Asians on the other hand, weren't enslaved or colonized by white people (EDIT : or at least not to the same extent), so the same kind of ignorant display of racism will most likely will be met with condescendance. Not really the same sentiment.

Yeah but then again they did EXPLICITLY say they were coming back earlier on

I find it suss that they don't want to use them to boost the group's profile

Top Media never said Wooseok and Jinhyuk were coming back to Up10Tion. They tested the waters by giving the group a comeback without them right after Produce, and they didn't do well. This is their first comeback since (one year later), if they had wanted a boost to the group's popularity they would have made one much sooner, and with Jinhyuk at least.

It's been pretty clear to me that they just don't care about the group.

Yeah I think the same, although I think he did produce a couple of songs I liked even after Dawn's departure (I think the last one I enjoyed was Boyness from Produce X 101), but lately the songs he has made for Pentagon + other artists really haven't done it for me... 😕

I really liked Sha La La but every title track since has been lackluster IMO. Boyness was nice too but didn't get much attention (when it would have made  a better title track than Flash...)

There must be contractual issues with Wooseok and Jinhyuk because their solo careers are doing well

If they were willing there's no way TOP wouldn't want them to participate

Nah Top Media just doesn't want to deal with the akgaes, they've been separating them from the group's name since they came back from Produce. When Up10Tion had a fanmeet in Japan, Jinhyuk was included in it because of their contract there, but they apologized to Jinhyuk's fans for it.

If you look at the company's statements, Top never mentions Wooseok or Jinhyuk as members of Up10Tion. They're just more profitable as soloists.

He really lost his touch huh

He's probably in a slump because of the intense pressure he's had to endure since Dawn's departure, but forcing himself to work on whatever project is pushed unto him.

I feel Road to Kingdom really exhausted him, both physically and mentally, that's not really good for creativity 😕
