Remember Min from Miss A? She was actually sent to the US before WG to train and debut there. Obviously it didn't work out.

This article about JYPE working with R. Kelly in the late 00s/early 10s also mentions they were going to debut G. Soul and J. Lim in the states as well.

    https://www.koreaboo.com/news/r-kelly-kpop-involvement-surviving-r-kelly/

You could argue that this was a long time ago, and that they now know what not to do.

JYPE has changed a lot internally as a company since this all happened, notably by creating the division system. The problem with their American advances back then is that the company was neglecting their Korean activities in favor of them ; with the division system in place this group will get its own dedicated team, and it won't impact anyone's activities in Korea.

Of course there's no guarantee it will work out, but with how the company works atm, they have a better chance at success.

They actually sold even more, Cravity sold +150k per album and Treasure +200k per album. Cravity is also the only 2020 rookie that charted on melon top 100 (#90) in the old system, and the only that has a music show win. Both groups also charted top 30 in Genie/Bugs. People put too much importance on melon when nowadays it's only a handful of established and trendy groups who can chart in the top 100. Is everyone else a flop then?

Almost every boy group in existence is a "flop" when it comes to the general public.

Physical sales are a much better way to accurately measure a boy group's success, since they rely on fandom for revenue.

Highest peaks on melOn daily chart by 2020 rookie groups:

    1. Treasure: 364 (Boy), I love you (511)
    2. Cravity: 373 (BATR), 582 (Flame)
    3. WEi: 656 (Twilight)

I think you should worry about them falling 200 positions on melOn from debut to comeback first.

Melon doesn't mean shit when it comes to fandom power, Stray Kids and Ateez still barely chart but sell 300k+ physical copies.

Treasure and Cravity both sold 100k+ for their debut albums, which is pretty great considering it took Skz a whole year to get to that point.

I never get solo stan to this lvl... well akgae honestly i honestly dunno anything ab yohan but some fans expect their fave to go solo just cuz theyre solo stan and cba to follow like whole grp ig? I mean it isn't easy for just one person to carry themselves alone on stage.  Its for some idols benefit they are in grp than debut alone.

Also even beside being solo stan..boycotting ur faves album , like what is that eve r proving tbh? If its something a mass of ppl really doing theyre just jepordizing their favs career 💀just get over it and support it how it is...or don't,  but being upset/boycotting over it is too extra

Tbh these demands baffle me when it comes to Yohan, because even if he's very charismatic, he's still lacking in terms of skills - he's a fast learner but he was only a trainee for three months before Produce, so he's still a bit rough around the edges, and still needs the group to grow.

And strategically speaking, Oui has seen how things went with Donghan - he had a pretty successful solo debut but his subsequent releases didn't do that well. It's harder for a soloist to retain fans because you just can't have as much content as with a group.

I agree, but with these groups releasing English songs, people are saying it's still considered kpop so idk

Because the groups are aimed at the Korean market to begin with.

JYP's strategy with its non-Korean groups is to target non-Korean markets. Boy Story and their upcoming Chinese boy group are aimed at the Chinese market, NiziU and their upcoming Japanese boy group at the Japanese market, and if they say they want to make an American girl group it means that group will get promoted in the US first and foremost, will all the members being native English speakers, and they'll be marketed as a Western girl group in the American market.

I'm curious of just how westernized the US-based group is going to be : are the girls going to be all Asian or will there be more diversity ?

congrats :ahmagah: also yo were the heck are all these idols keeping these songs at ( don't be shy drop them):donthinkso: there so many of them with high number songs, I'm kind of shock that pentagon wooseok has more song then hui no wonder they keep telling him to drop a mixtape and my baby yuto with 34 song getting that mulla nice.

Difference is that most of Wooseok's credits are for his own lyrics, while most of Hui's are for composing not just Pentagon's songs, but also songs for other people. I don't doubt that Energetic has earned him more royalties than most of Pentagon's discography combined.

She just had a baby this year with her new husband? I hope the child will grow up okay, and wish she could have been helped and supported before she made her decision, I'm sure it was difficult.

The baby will be fine if he grows up in a good environment because he won't be able to remember her.

I'd worry about the eldest a lot more, 15 is a pretty rough age to lose a parent.

The ratings were basically similar to RTK and RTK was considered successful because at the end the groups participating managed to increase their fanbase a lot.

TV ratings don't matter that much anymore, especially for idol shows that are aimed to teens and young adults and those people stream online more than watch tv. I mean, even the 2 last seasons of produce only had around 2% of ratings and were called a "flop" too yet Iz*one and X1 did/are doing great.

The groups that appeared in RTK are still mid-tier though, they didn't blow up like Produce groups. And a lot of people just watched the performances on Naver, compared to I-Land.

Produce didn't have super high ratings but there was a TON of online buzz in Korea throughout all seasons of the show. In addition to much lower TV ratings, I-Land just didn't really spark that much conversation in Korean online communities.

And unlike Produce groups, the debut announcement for Enhypen didn't really trend in Korea.

It's stupid to expect that people won't make stories about their favorite ships when they foster that by capitalizing on the most popular ship at the time in every VCR, music video and even who they pair up for vlives. It's not stupid to want them to not be shipped, but it's stupid to expect that.

They don't expect fans to stop making stories about their ships, they just want to stop people from making them public through their platform, which is quite different.

Stupid expectation when the shipping community is so big, but also double stupid because Bighit queerbaits them so much, especially in the BU.

Not a stupid expectation, they just don't want the platform to be overtaken by shippers, and if they didn't forbid it that's what would have happened.

Also I suppose that moderation will be somewhat automated and largely based on user reports ; if they allowed shipping content, there would have been mass reporting anyway because of ship wars. So this is a way of keeping typical twitter drama off the game.

Fnc got a huge value loss after AOA issue, so their image ATM is force than RBW, so getting them is probably far easier than getting RBW. Otherwise o.o maybe this can spread to other groups, I would love to have Mx and wonho on weverse lol

FNC also got hit pretty hard by Burning Molka last year, and with the way they handled it back then you could tell they're a shit company.

But if it works out for p1H I suppose other FNC groups could join the plaform, SF9 in particular.

no, i won't, i will talk here about who i feel is straight or gay how much i want and you can't do anything about it. homosexuality won't even exist without heterosexuality, your parents are heterosexual right?  you wouldn't be born if they didn't copulate.

I'm a bisexual woman who's married to a man and has two kids.

Being in a serious relationship with someone of the opposite sex doesn't make me or anyone straight.

Hows the line distribution going to work? everyone has one or two words? lol

How's much money are the boys going to make?

In Empathy there was exactly one song will all members (Black on Black), and it was more of a performance piece where everyone got to dance but not necessarily to sing. The rest of the album were unit songs, one for Dream, one for 127, and the rest was NCT U so a different member combination for each song + one solo song by Ten.

Much like Empathy it isn't an album to make money, it's an album to promote NCT as a whole. Albums don't make that much money to begin with, touring is where the money's at, and they'll never tour all of NCT at the same time, it's always a unit thing. The new boys are probably going to be featured in the title tracks (like Jungwoo and Lucas were featured in Boss).

Besides Pledis is probably going to be disbanded after their two existing group finish their courses; they already got rid of managing IZOne because that was too much. I don't think Pledis will have a new group despite of whatever they might say.

They have something like 50 trainees and their plans for a boy group debut are among the plans BigHit made public.

IZ*ONE thing was always a short term deal with CJENM, they did music production and training but no actual management, that part was handled by the CJ subsidiary they were under.

BH may have plans to completely absorb Pledis, but even if they do they're probably going to keep staff separate anyway, like JYPE does with its division system (having separate management has proven itself super effective to handle content and promotions).
