  1. You could argue that this was a long time ago, and that they now know what not to do. JYPE has changed a lot internally as a company since this all happened, notably by creating the division system. The problem with their American advances back then is that the company was neglecting their Korean activities in favor of them ; with the division system in place this group will get its own dedicated team, and it won't impact anyone's activities in Korea. Of course there's no guarantee it will work out, but with how the company works atm, they have a better chance at success.
  2. When doesn't he though ? I'm Mark biased but Taeyong's always stunning.
  3. Almost every boy group in existence is a "flop" when it comes to the general public. Physical sales are a much better way to accurately measure a boy group's success, since they rely on fandom for revenue.
  4. Melon doesn't mean shit when it comes to fandom power, Stray Kids and Ateez still barely chart but sell 300k+ physical copies. Treasure and Cravity both sold 100k+ for their debut albums, which is pretty great considering it took Skz a whole year to get to that point. Tbh these demands baffle me when it comes to Yohan, because even if he's very charismatic, he's still lacking in terms of skills - he's a fast learner but he was only a trainee for three months before Produce, so he's still a bit rough around the edges, and still needs the group to grow. And strategically speaking, Oui has seen how things went with Donghan - he had a pretty successful solo debut but his subsequent releases didn't do that well. It's harder for a soloist to retain fans because you just can't have as much content as with a group.
  5. As discussed above, Wooseok is credited for his raps in every single Pentagon song, but Hui hasn't contributed to all of their discography, especially at the beginning of their career.
  6. Because the groups are aimed at the Korean market to begin with. JYP's strategy with its non-Korean groups is to target non-Korean markets. Boy Story and their upcoming Chinese boy group are aimed at the Chinese market, NiziU and their upcoming Japanese boy group at the Japanese market, and if they say they want to make an American girl group it means that group will get promoted in the US first and foremost, will all the members being native English speakers, and they'll be marketed as a Western girl group in the American market. I'm curious of just how westernized the US-based group is going to be : are the girls going to be all Asian or will there be more diversity ?
  7. 3RACHA being 24th, 28th and 35th less than three years into debut, I stan hard working boys
  8. Difference is that most of Wooseok's credits are for his own lyrics, while most of Hui's are for composing not just Pentagon's songs, but also songs for other people. I don't doubt that Energetic has earned him more royalties than most of Pentagon's discography combined.
  9. Yes most of the Korean entertainment industry is controlled by a few powerful companies, but ties to organized crime are nowhere as blatant as they are in Japan.
  10. The intention to damage someone's reputation is sufficient to get sued for defamation. Even if everything is true.
  11. The baby will be fine if he grows up in a good environment because he won't be able to remember her. I'd worry about the eldest a lot more, 15 is a pretty rough age to lose a parent.
  12. My point is that they expect that shippers would want to make that game their playground, but they don't want it to happen, so they wrote that rule down.
  13. The groups that appeared in RTK are still mid-tier though, they didn't blow up like Produce groups. And a lot of people just watched the performances on Naver, compared to I-Land. Produce didn't have super high ratings but there was a TON of online buzz in Korea throughout all seasons of the show. In addition to much lower TV ratings, I-Land just didn't really spark that much conversation in Korean online communities. And unlike Produce groups, the debut announcement for Enhypen didn't really trend in Korea.
  14. They don't expect fans to stop making stories about their ships, they just want to stop people from making them public through their platform, which is quite different.
  15. Not a stupid expectation, they just don't want the platform to be overtaken by shippers, and if they didn't forbid it that's what would have happened. Also I suppose that moderation will be somewhat automated and largely based on user reports ; if they allowed shipping content, there would have been mass reporting anyway because of ship wars. So this is a way of keeping typical twitter drama off the game.
  16. As said above, there are very few flights atm, so not that hard to keep an eye on.
  17. If they'd watched I-Land they'd know about the votes, but the show had terrible ratings.
  18. FNC also got hit pretty hard by Burning Molka last year, and with the way they handled it back then you could tell they're a shit company. But if it works out for p1H I suppose other FNC groups could join the plaform, SF9 in particular.
  19. If they didn't have this rule you can be certain 95% of user generated content would be shipping.
  20. I'm a bisexual woman who's married to a man and has two kids. Being in a serious relationship with someone of the opposite sex doesn't make me or anyone straight.
  21. Selling an image doesn't necessarily mean selling a boyfriend image. There are idols who explicitly friendzone their fans... And I feel that nobody in EXO is really trying to sell that image ?
  22. In Empathy there was exactly one song will all members (Black on Black), and it was more of a performance piece where everyone got to dance but not necessarily to sing. The rest of the album were unit songs, one for Dream, one for 127, and the rest was NCT U so a different member combination for each song + one solo song by Ten. Much like Empathy it isn't an album to make money, it's an album to promote NCT as a whole. Albums don't make that much money to begin with, touring is where the money's at, and they'll never tour all of NCT at the same time, it's always a unit thing. The new boys are probably going to be featured in the title tracks (like Jungwoo and Lucas were featured in Boss).
  23. They have something like 50 trainees and their plans for a boy group debut are among the plans BigHit made public. IZ*ONE thing was always a short term deal with CJENM, they did music production and training but no actual management, that part was handled by the CJ subsidiary they were under. BH may have plans to completely absorb Pledis, but even if they do they're probably going to keep staff separate anyway, like JYPE does with its division system (having separate management has proven itself super effective to handle content and promotions).
