  1. Probably because they're young boy group fans who only watched because she covered their fave ?
  2. I suppose the title track would have been used for the RtK finale if they had gone that far. Smart move to announce this before viewers forget about them...
  3. It is. Let's not forget they're most probably scapegoats ; I seriously doubt their superiors at Mnet did not know about the voting manipulation. Judges didn't have any proof of the higher ups being involved, doesn't mean they believed they were innocent.
  4. The pressure to date/marry isn't that strong for high schoolers. Parents push them to study as hard as possible so they get into a prestigious university, and ignoring peer pressure to date is much easier when you're immersed in your studies. I'm pretty sure a lot push back dating to "when I'm in college" because of the "work first, personal life second" mindset.
  5. Most idols don't do that, and it doesn't stop fans from acting like they were cheated on when they hear they're dating. You have to take into account the people posting here are Korean teenagers. Who are often discouraged from dating because it distracts them from studying. Koreans just don't know what work/life balance is.
  6. I like to cook, but unless I have guests I don't bother with presentation, so I'm somewhere in between
  7. In countries where age of consent is under 18, teenagers can freely have sex with each other if they so wish, and I'm perfectly fine with that. The problem is not that with minors having sex, the problem is anybody being manipulated into a sexual relationship they're not ready for mentally. Which is tied to age hence statutory rape laws, but it's not turning 18 that miraculously makes you less naive and harder to manipulate. My main issue with teenagers watching porn is that porn is not a realistic depiction of sex, but for some people it's the only sex education they're going to get, so they're going to give them a warped view of sexuality, and it's going to affect their future relationships in a bad way.
  8. Except Roy Kim was not in the chat room where the molka was shared. There were many different chatrooms on the "golden phone", and the one where molka was shared was just a few people that were all named. Roy Kim wasn't "clearly" privy of JJY's crimes, he may have been because they were close friends but there is no actual proof of it. It's just speculation.
  9. No but excuse it as them being immature and rebellious like most teens. If you forbid something to a teenager because it's an "adult thing" they'll want to try it just to prove they're all grown up / make themselves look cool. That's like, teenage rebellion 101. I was maybe 16 when I started to drink some alcohol ? Not with other teens but for special occasions with my family, and since I was with my parents it was not binge drinking, just a glass or two. My parents didn't set me a hard limit like "you musn't drink until you're an adult" so when I became an adult it didn't change my attitude towards alcohol ; I still rarely drink, and when I do I always stay reasonable (I have a few glasses when I'm partying out, but never to the point of being actually drunk). Korea has a very hypocritical attitude towards alcohol, they don't want teens to touch it but as soon as you hit the right age people don't see any problem in getting wasted on a regular basis. There's no actual education around alcohol, it's just "forbidden for your own good".
  10. JYPE just doesn't care about charting because that's not where the money is lol. Stray Kids still has abysmal digital charting, but they've silently grown a stable fanbase and are now selling over 200k albums. And it's not as if the company doesn't care about Stray Kids, they just give priority to feeding the fandom (and we're well fed for sure) over pushing them to the general public.
  11. Dope cast Also nice to see Xiumin and Kim Minseok reunite after It's Dangerous Beyond The Blankets (I still haven't gotten over the three Kim Minseoks episode).
  12. Zico's only association with Burning Sun was the fact that he used to hang out with JJY and once made that comment about his "golden phone" on a variety show. That's it, that's the only proof there is of him even knowing about anything. He wasn't even in the chatlogs. Here, a Soompi article about the facts : https://www.soompi.com/article/1309852wpp/zico-addresses-his-past-remarks-about-looking-at-jung-joon-youngs-golden-phone
  13. South Korea was never on lockdown, they've only imposed quarantine on people who have tested positive for COVID and those who were in contact with them. They managed to contain the epidemic through widespread testing and contact tracing. The number of new cases had become very low so people felt safe enough to stop social distancing. And "the government" has nothing to do with blaming the LGBT community, it's the media that blew the issue up and started to point fingers. The South Korean president has shown he's open minded personally, just won't make laws about it because at this point it would look authoritative, and it's opposite of his party line.
  14. People just love his music. His association with Burning Sun (so basically, just the golden phone comment on an old tv show, since he was not mentioned when it came to the group chats) is mostly something that blew up in kpop fandoms ; honestly I don't think the general public actually heard about that issue. He denied being involved and then stayed silent for months, waiting for the topic to disappear from the media. Then he slowly came back, just writing music for other people, and only once sure most people had forgotten about him being part of the controversy, came back to the forefront. Whatever your personal opinion about his innocence or lack thereof, you have to admit he handled it smartly. And with the number of celebrities who have shown support to him during Anysong promotions, it's one of two things : either he's actually changed from the days he hung out with JJY, or he's a very good liar that has managed to convince the whole industry he has. There's no way someone with a bad reputation would garner this amount of support (or get cast in that show).
  15. I think it's more like, LGBT rights have come to the forefront in the political debate. Conservative leaders of course are vocal about their opposition, so people are more vocal about it and unafraid to voice their opinions. It's been the same in every country going through these debates. Anti-LGBT attitudes are just exacerbated by the fact LGBT rights are discussed, because conservatives just don't want things to change. It doesn't mean society is moving backwards - just that it's more polarized on that specific issue. People in power haven't changed much in the last two years, however there were elections recently (April 15th), and the current president is doing a pretty good job, so conservatives really only had the "values" angle to rally their supporters. So the anti-LGBT discourse has grown - doesn't mean more people are turning against the gays, just that existing positions are voiced more openly. The sad reality is that every western country had to go through the same thing. In order for LGBT rights to actually advance, you have to put them at the center of the political debate, and it will inevitably enhance the opposing party's voice on the issue. People don't want political debates in their entertainment, atm being gay has become something political rather than a potential joke, so they'll stop mentioning it in variety shows. I think that's why Jo Kwon denies gay rumors, Heechul is suddenly dating the girl he denied dating six months prior, and they won't invite the only openly out gay celebrity on variety shows anymore. Nobody wants variety shows to become political.
  16. Nah it's only the tangent topic of content accessibility. The Japanese approach is to basically put everything behind a paywall and hand out copyright strikes to anyone and everyone. Kpop labels on the other hand release a ton of free content, and monetize Youtube content using their music instead of striking them. There are some Japanese labels that are more lenient, and unsurprisingly their acts tend to have much more success internationally. I don't know why Johnny's sticks to their outdated strategy of milking their Japanese fanbase... as Kpop shows it's not because you hand out free content that fans will stop buying things. But if you want to profit from it, the merch they buy has to be official, hence the fight against bootlegs.
  17. And the only reason this club has become such an issue is because of ambient homophobia. The people who were at that club received messages to encourage them to get tested for COVID, but a lot didn't because they would basically have outed themselves.
  18. They're more in a grey area because they don't use material created by the agencies for their goods, but photos they took themselves at public events. And it's not really in the agencies' best interest to sue fansites, because a good chunk of the money they make ends up in their pocket anyway (since they'll spend a generous amount on albums to get into fansigns, as well as concert tickets). Merch stores that sell bootleg stuff are much more likely to get sued.
  19. And D.O. from his kitchen, where he feels he's doing something actually useful.
  20. As far as I know the military band doesn't just have celebrities in it, anybody with the skills can apply. It's the same as applying to be a cook or a medic, you have to be capable in the field to get the position. Does it make your service easier ? Probably, because at least you get paid to do something that has some kind of meaning. Being a regular soldier is just mind-numbing, they spend most of their time training for a war they're pretty sure they'll never have to fight.
  21. Bogum is a cult member because his parents are, and he was raised in that belief system. It is pretty difficult to escape this kind of indoctrination, and even if Bogum has stopped believing the nonsense the cult fed him, he knows that if he leaves, his parents are probably going to shun him.
  22. She looks absolutely fine to me. When you lose that much weight it will show in your face ! I lost 10 kg last year and it's very noticeable on my face, and she lost at least 30 kg. And it definitely looks like she works out, her legs are toned not skinny. She didn't go on a diet to look pretty to other people, but to be healthier and feel better in her own skin. It was my own mindset when I decided to go an a diet last year, and frankly I have so much more energy now... it was totally worth the effort.
  23. Well we all knew that song would break the charts. Just not to what extent ^^;
  24. tbf it looked like two thirds of the reaction shots were Jangjun being extra lol. And they made that phone call sequence very funny
  25. EXP Edition can much more legitimately be called a kpop group, because they actually promote like one. They've been on Korean music shows and live the idol life in Korea.
