I don't get why people now want to paint Taeyong as this pure angel and the future "nation's sweetheart". He's either represented by antis as a total asshole or as an innocent baby by delusional fans. Is it this hard to just treat him as a human being with qualities but also flaws ? I'm glad that the controversies around him were cleared but it doesn't erase his past bad attitude and even if the homophobic comment was an inside joke between him and his friend, it's still moronic at best and mean at worst.
I hoped this situation with Taeyong would have teach people to treat idols as humans, nor as gods or monsters, but it seems that most people never learn from their past mistakes, unlike Taeyong himself did.
Everyone looks back at his own 13 year old self and tells themselves "I was such a moron", and I think we shouldn't judge idols any harsher than how we judge ourselves.
I never said that Taeyong was a "pure angel" but the fact that he made amends and has become a better person since should be sufficient for his past mistakes not to matter anymore and for him to be seen as a good person.
Cancel culture is counter productive imo : if nothing can erase your past mistakes, why bother reflecting on them and change for the better ?

I mean, yeah there are things they've arguable improved on over the years. But there's still a level of inconsistency within promotions and how they handle situations.
Even if there are certain things they may handle better in comparison to SM or YG, overall its still a situation where the grass isn't much greener on the kther side.
Basically JYP has two divisions that do a pretty good job (1 and 3) and two that do a meh one (2 and Studio J)
MyDays were trying to get Stays on board to complain to JYPE... but Stray Kids actually get a ton of content and opportunities since debut and Stays can't really complain about anything. They haven't been on big variety shows because they don't have the notoriety to get invited as a whole group (and JYPE seems pretty stubborn about the whole group always promoting together, much like with Twice).

1st one nope, GOT7 members had to either move or call out sasaengs themselves to stop it, same for 2pm.
Third one is nope GOT7 promo's suck, ITZY's promo's suck for rookies, and Day6 promo's are lacking. GOT7 has called out JYPE as well and in the past 2pm.
So it's not all rosy at JYPE.
1st "When they can" is the key here, there is very little companies can do to stop sasaengs because there's no law against stalkers in Korea.
When it comes to actively promoting a group some divisions more or less suck (and Studio J is the worst), some others don't, but everyone gets to release stuff regularly, unlike SM and YG that just seem unable to handle schedules for more than one group at a time. Among the Big3 JYPE seems to be the only one sufficiently organized to plan ahead more than a couple of months at a time.
4 minutes ago, Jollux said:The divisions were created and the promotion is still just as bad. Did any of the twice members ever got a collab? Tv role? Individual CF/Endorsement? Which year did they debuted again?
Twice doesn't get individual schedules because it's the company's strategy to always promote them as a group. They don't want another Miss A debacle where one of the members gets way more popular than the rest and it becomes hard tor reconcile her solo schedule with the rest of the group's. Miss A failed because Suzy was getting solo work while the others were stuck doing nothing. JYPE just wants to avoid a repeat of that for as long as they can. The girls can have small solo gigs like MCing but the high profile things like acting and solo CFs are still going to be off limits for a while because the company prioritizes long term success of the group with a strong fandom over short term money that the solo gigs would definitely bring.
And they're not the only company with that strategy, BigHit does exactly the same with BTS.

But how they are less trash than YG and SM?
Let's see, JYP :
- takes actions against sasaengs if they can
- has never been to court against one of their artists
- actually improved their management practices in order to promote their groups more efficiently (Studio J is the only division that hasn't really worked out)
- hasn't tricked anyone into renewing their contract just so they could lock them in a dungeon for three years
- hasn't bribed the police to cover up for their idols doing illegal shit
- doesn't cheat on their taxes

So his controversies are cleared? What was the outcome?
So, when TY was 13, he made a mean (fatshaming) comment online towards a classmate. Ten years later someone (referred to as "informant A", a former friend of his) dug it up and presented it online, including to the victim of said fatshaming comment (who hadn't known about it, and is referred to as "victim B").
Taeyong then met B to apologize for his past rude comment. It was in the presence of a lawyer because SM wanted to make B sign a NDA.
Things should have stopped here, except A had a thing against TY and accused him of other things in the last few months :
- first dug up a comment TY had written on a former classmate's yearbook, that seemed kinda homophobic
- said that TY had been insincere when apologizing to B, that B had felt uncomfortable surrounded by SM staff during the encounter and had felt pressured into singing the NDA
- said that TY's fans had found A, had been harassing them and made their life hell
But it turns out that :
- the "homophobic" comment was just a joke to a friend and never was taken seriously by him
- B and TY are on good terms and have been exchanging texts since he apologized to her
- A's harassment was grossly exaggerated
- and A has actually been trying to get money from SM all this time
SM has been gathering evidence against A and is suing them for defamation. Supposedly they didn't do it earlier because Taeyong didn't want to affect his former schoolmates negatively by dragging one of them to court, but things were starting to turn really ugly.

In fact there was already drama in the first episode when Niki was shown voting against Taki when previously they had been shown as friends that wanted to debut together. People were so shocked at the "betrayal" that the 2 of them even trended globally lmao.
This show is much more vicious and dark than any produce show but that makes it oddly "refreshing" imo.
I think that we'll get more on this "betrayal" next episode. I admit that was kinda mean to push that on Niki but it was a pretty efficient cliffhanger ^^;

But most korean shows do this and it's annoying. I hope this show wont do that much lol.
So far the editing is pretty good. The first episode wasn't that long and already covered quite a lot of events, so they didn't have time to drag things out. For example when the performances start and the trainees are told to choose the order by themselves, we're only shown once that the first to go between the ones who volunteered was decided through a rock, paper, scissors game, but after that they don't show anything again on how they decided the performance order.
Overall I think they won't need to overly dramatize the editing at any point, because of how the show itself is set up (trainees vote for/against each other, and instructions are given through speakers and screens rather than people, so they won't have any authority figure to turn to in order to resolve conflict), drama is going to erupt naturally, and there's always going to be a camera to record it.
Also the exaggerated Produce-style edits wouldn't work with the dark futuristic atmosphere they want to give to the show.
If some of you want to watch the first episode in good quality, it's up on Viki !

The bolded is exactly what I pointed out in the last part of my post. Also it wasn't a one time thing... there was the scamming, the fatshaming comment and then the homophobic comment. I'm sorry but to me this is bully behavior and in this case I would rather be wrong for not giving him the benefit of doubt than making mental gymnastics to excuse what he did and hurt his victims even more. Based on what you've said, it seems like you did neither which is mature and something I admit wasn't able to do when in comes to this situation, but I'm not here for the guilt tripping going on when people had their reasons to not trust Taeyong.
- The "scam" thing happened when TY was something like 10 and has nothing to do with the rest, the full story is that he sold a toy online and the person received it broken, and TY was rude to them when they asked for a refund (but in the end he actually sent that refund so...).
- The fatshaming happened once online and the person he targeted only knew ten years after the fact (and this is how the whole mess with the informant started).
- The "homophobic comment" was a joke towards a friend, it didn't offend anyone and the informant used it to stir shit
Only the fatshaming thing can be vaguely called "bully behavior", the rest is just a teenager saying stupid shit (and all teenagers say stupid shit). And knowing how frighteningly normal fatshaming is seen in Korea, I wouldn't call TY a bully for just for saying out loud something everyone around him thought. And calling someone a bully over a mean joke really cheapens the term IMO, a bully is someone who harasses their classmates and makes their life hell. Bullying is an actual, rampant problem in Korean schools, so the term shouldn't be used lightly.

The way I enjoyed the first ep of I-Land more than any first ep of the Produce series lmao... it was more interesting
I think that the entrances at the start of each Produce season were iconic, but with the number of trainees the initial performances really dragged and the editing had to favor some people over others. With 23 trainees they can give everyone about the same amount of screentime.

But what else would I or anyone think considering SM did nothing for ages and we had confirmation of him indeed being a bully in the past? It's nice that some people like you were able to see nuances and more than it meets the eye but this is definitely one of those boy who cried wolf situations.
I do feel bad for him to some extent because he did what he did when he was a teenager, what the informant did was unfair and I know people can change but let's not act like this is a Lovelyz's Jisoo case in the sense he was a perfectly innocent person since the beginning.
- these were old stories, a lot of teenagers are little shits who later grow out of it and there's no proof that Taeyong has done anything similar to what he was accused of in the last 10 years.
- it's not because you're harassed by fans of an idol that this idol is responsible for it
- SM are the ones who pushed a lawyer on Taeyong and his victim, and TY himself didn't have a choice in the matter
These were the points I was bringing up.
Also about the "Taeyong was a bully", no he wasn't. He mocked one of his classmates' appearance ONCE, and not even to her face so she only knew years after the fact. Bullying would imply he did it more than once and she actually felt harassed by him, and it wasn't the case.

Chen has fans turning their backs on him for getting married and having a kid while Taeyong gets excuses for being a massive bully in the past and even the opportunity to promote in a international sub-unit with some of his most famous seniors... I just don't get it.
This comment really hasn't aged well.
Meanwhile, anybody in this thread who showed any kind of nuance (as in, just trying to put things into perspective, even assuming the informant was telling the truth) got downvoted to hell.
I'm personally just glad I was wrong about the reasons behind SM's silence on the issue.

is correct aside from 4th gen they are all 3.5. 4th gen will start after 3rd gen groups stop dominating
What if they never stop dominating though ? What if BTS is still THE top group after they finish their military service ? What if Twice retains their current popularity for another 5 years ?
And current dominating groups didn't wait for the 2nd gen ones to lose popularity to debut ? In 2012-2013 the groups that dominated were still the 2nd gen and only after EXO started to outsell their seniors, people retroactively decided that they were the start of that gen and groups that debuted a few years before them were called gen 2.5.
Honestly, I think we'll only really know when the 4th gen started when we look at the dominating group in 5 years from now. If TxT and Itzy are the top groups in 2025 we'll say the 4th gen started in 2019. If it's groups that haven't debuted yet we'll call TxT and Itzy and whoever debuted in 2018-2020 gen 3.5.

Where's Infinite?
It's just a hobby for the guy who did the video and he's probably going to do more in the future if people suggest other groups.
Also he needs enough videos that meet the criteria for the analysis to work (that is, fixed cams of the whole group where they do exactly the same moves at the same time).

Then as a svt fan you would know mbc is important for them, strainign relationship between both is the real issue. You are saying svt will be fine not going to music core, i am saying i know they will be fine but removing promotional event from their schedule and not including a new one is bad for them and the fans. The music core is one of the most watched, and even it wasnt such event shouldnt be removed on a whim.
How many times do I have to re-explain to you that Music Core is not MBC ? The statement was issued by Music Core NOT the channel, and the rest of MBC doesn't seem to have a strained relationship with BigHit (they aired a long special broadcast for the BTS's 7th anniversary). The PD made that statement because that's the only way he has to pressure BigHit - the alternative would be admitting defeat and apologizing to BH for the way he treated their artists, and he's probably too full of himself for that.
For an established group (which Seventeen is now, whatever their past struggles), music shows are only important because that's where the group meets their fans, and at the moment they perform without an audience and can't hold any fanmeets after, so it defeats that purpose. Plus music shows are a money sink, and they have abysmal ratings, so they're not even an efficient promotion tool, especially compared to variety.
Seriously stop being so dramatic about this issue, BigHit knows what they're doing and it's in their best interest to further Seventeen's career ; BTS is going to start enlisting soon and they just need the money their other groups can make them. They're very business oriented so if the beef was hurting their artists' careers, they would have negotiated behind the scenes and solved it months ago.

I dont care about how bts works, why do you people refuse to get that. I dont care about sm or yg too. Stop poking nose to fans concerns, our views on shortening promo period is real and it worries us. If you are not a seventeen fan your views are irrelevant to me, quit defending bighit when fault fully lies with them.
I AM a Seventeen fan and they're doing GREAT, so not appearing on that music show isn't going to affect their career in the slightest. I would get the worry if it was the whole tv channel they were banned from, but it's just one show.
Pledis has always been terrible at marketing their groups and Seventeen succeeded despite their agency not thanks to it. I'm not saying that BigHit is perfect, but they do their job as an agency ten times more competently than Pledis.

I see, interesting points. I wouldn't say he's so introverted though, his mbti is ESTP. Or maybe he just doesn't see himself accurately? I don't know him personally so I can't say for sure, but I think he took the test online and not professionally, so I wouldn't trust that either anyways.
Reminder that introverted and extroverted aren't classifications on how you externally interact with people, but on how their presence affects you internally. Extroverts gain energy from other people's presence, while introverts are drained by social interactions and need time alone to recharge. Some extroverts are shy while still enjoying being surrounded by other people, and some introverts are talkative if not loud but need to be alone to relieve stress.

Makes it even worse. For a group any promo is important, and mbc loves svt, and was always happy to give them extra promo. As a company bighit shouldnt let petty feelings cover their group's success. I know you will say mbc started it first, but i dont care who started it, they are a broadcasting company ffs, you just cannot fight with a big broadcasting company, you are an entertainment conpany you have to try to ignore ill feelings and do best for your group. No matter which angle i look bighit is to blame here.
The fact that it's just one producer and not the whole channel doesn't make it "worse" it actually makes BigHit's refusal to work with him inconsequential for them.
"Any promo is important" > not really if you look at BTS, they barely go on TV
Most big companies have some kind of beef in the same vein (SM and YG never send their groups on M Countdown) and it doesn't stop their groups from being successful.

I hate both sides, if thats what you are trying to do. Mbc is broadcasting company ffs, they are always the powerful side at issues like this, if MBC doesnt accept bts yet accept svt, well bighit as their company suck it up and has to do what is beneficial for the artist instead of being petty. Like i said before either show something that svt wont be harmed by this less promo by giving them more promo opportunities, or pretend you are not their company and let them go get extra promo from mbc
Except this is not MBC the broadcasting company that's fighting with BigHit, it's only the producer or Music Core.

[NB]Mina continues expose on Jimin's bullying, Jimin deletes post calling it "fiction"
