  1. In what (imaginary) world is YH not a smaller agency in the music industry? It is at the same level as Starship which is why both are taking their chances in PD101. What YH does in the Chinese cinema space is irrelevant here. They cannot debut their BGs/GGs successfully based on reputation alone like the Big Three.
  2. Wow! Red Velvet greeted by Kim Jong Un! Maybe Kpop will fix this fvcking division of our people. Wow.
  3. That doesn’t hold true for the Big Three (SM, YG, JYP.) The trainees groomed by those agencies do not need survival shows to build up popularity so they were traditionally withheld from competition. The company’s reputation is enough to ensure success. It is not worth the risk to their investment if one of their trainees faired badly in a survival show like Produce 101.
  4. ARRRRRGGHHHH! No Yoojin. She’s beautiful. But she’s like a baby sister in middle school. Refuse to think of her in this section of this forum. Now Seungyeon is a proper woman with sex appeal. I would make love to Seungyeon. But would probably marry Elkie who has a blend of looks, talent and sophistication that I like. Bodywise, I think Elkie is tops on CLC. Arguably one of the best bodies in all of KPOP if you compared her to Tzuyu, Jihyo and SinB in the famous Loving U video:
  5. So CLC’s Yoojin and AoA’s Chanmi along with some of the top trainees associated with SM — Eunyoung, Lee Sian, Cho Yoori, Lee Yoonseo, Dani, Han Hyeri — will be there? Hina too. Though I don’t know if she’ll be on the Korean or Japanese side of the bracket. But if she in on the show then she is out of SM? But Hina is considered a prized international candidate for their next girl group (along with Yiyang and NingNing.) Not sure how true these rumors are. If all true, then the Korean side is pretty high powered.
  6. Maybe we should hold off on any possible spoilers. On Yiyang. I doubt very much that SM would risk their investment on her (or NingNing) in this competition where there are so many members of debuted groups. It’s not like PD101 S1 where only DIA had members in the competition. The visuals I see on the PD101 China twitter accounts are at a higher level than what I saw at the beginning of PD101 S1. S1 was no slouch either with Somi and Kyulkyung. But Somi, Kyulkyung, Sejoung, etc. were real trainees at that time. A smaller agency might take that risk for exposure (Yuehua, Starship) but not SM.
  7. As a guy, I like lesbian-looking stuff where they are oblivious to anyone else more than cutesy fanservice aimed at an audience.
  8. We need to rock this fvcking place out a bit. I was listening this:
  9. OMFG! They’re touching and comparing thighs and legs. Who are they? Anyone knows? Click here to view the Tweet
  10. Hmmm, it looks like they are way too shy in those pictures. They are wearing their caps very low which hides their faces. I hope it is not too uncomfortable for them. I do want to see them do well. But they need to be more confident.
  11. Okay, I found my bias for this show. Everyone calls them the ugliest girl band in China so how can you not support them? Click here to view the Tweet Fight Sunshine fight!
  12. Ok Cheng Xiao and Sally are Chinese from southern China, Vivi and Elkie are Hong Kongers but they can all speak Cantonese like in HK movies?
  13. Say, can someone give me some links or a tweet handle I can use to look up some of the contestants? All I got are Hirate Yurina and Mina from the PD48 and Produce48 twitter accounts. I hate to be a perv but I need to see more fresh girls especially the Japanese ones!
  14. Yes but this is what I mean about being lost in the crowd. Could be camera angle, but it seems a lot of the girls are really tall too. More than in PD101 season 1. 15. True, true. It is personal aesthetics as well as some cultural ones. Chinese and Korean aesthetics as a whole are pretty similiar. All of the Chinese idols (both boys and girls) in kpop appeal to Koreans. But with Chinese and other foreigners, there is an added factor of what we imagine as an exotic factor, if you can understand what I mean. Alex from Rania we expect a very large exotic factor because she is half American and black. Ttabo, a lot less on the exotic scale but still just different enough. Not sure Koreans would cast a Chinese member who looks very different like Dilraba or the black Chinese girl idol contestant in the CNN report a few years ago.
  16. Maybe Sally and Ttabo but definitely not Elkie. It would be a major step backwards. Elkie is a vocal lead as well as a top visual for CLC and Cube has given her a solo MV.
  17. Yes Xuanyi — and Cheng Xiao — stand out as Chinese. WJSN as a whole is very attractive but you can pick those two out right off the the bat because they look distinctly non-Korean. Meiqi looks and speaks fairly good as a Korean idol. Yes she could pass as Korean. Now Cheng Xiao is pretty much the “face†of Kpop’s entire China-line. Even more than Tzuyu. From the Korean perspective, she has the idealized Chinese look from movies and manhwa. Like the Chun Li character from Streetfighter lol. I see nothing European about Cheng Xiao at all. But that could be because I grew up in the US among whites. Now Lynn (Chen Lin) from 7Senses looks very European. In fact, she looks a bit like Sorn from CLC who is Thai but Lynn is prettier (in my opinion.) So maybe there is a Chinese type that looks European but not Cheng Xiao.
  18. OMFG! I would go into convulsions if I landed in the middle of that. LOL Click here to view the Tweet
  19. Okay, I don’t believe they are necessarily prettier and certainly not “a lot†prettier. For example, Cheng Xiao is acknowledged as one of the top visuals in kpop. But she is not even the top visual of WJSN. Bona is. Even Kyulkyung has competition in Pristin as top visual from Eunwon and Xiyeon. Having said that, I believe Chinese idols come in far more variants. Most Korean top visuals range between Yoona and Bona. This model goes back to BOA. The WJSN China-line has three girls that are pretty three different ways. Meiqi probably closer to the Korean model (Elkie from CLC as well.) Xuanyi is a version of the Kyulkyung-type of beauty that Koreans see as Chinese. Cheng Xiao’s looks are unique from from Xuanyi/Kyulkyung too. Among Koreans, she is most typically Chinese. I find this variation of looks even greater in the 7Senses SNH48 subunit. Diamond and Kiki look vaguely alike with another type of look (classical Chinese?) But Tako (my favorite), Bee, Eliwah, Lynn and Akira are very different from those two and from each other. Lynn looks mixed but I’m not sure. And yes, I think the large population not only gives the Chinese media world a lot of variations but also just LOTS in terms of numbers. Again, just combing through the SNH48’s lineup and watching some of their documentaries make your head spin from the visuals. Bare with me on the Star48 examples — they are the most accessible group on youtube — but their General Election has to be the biggest single gathering of mindnumbing cuteness on earth.
  20. Not on purpose. Just doing my googling and research on bands and artists. In fact, I just looked at the PD101China tweets and might have come across spoilers on rankings. I was checking out the tweets on the contestants. The visuals are already insane. Meiqi and Xuanyi seems almost lost in the crowd by looks alone. Though I think Meiqi’s looks are accompanied by pretty top notch dance skills and great voice. One billion is a large pool to recruit from, even leaving out the 300 idols from Star48!
  21. Definitely some kpop influence in the MVs, no? But definitely not kpop. I’ll be sad that it becomes just kpop with mandarin. Anyways, kpop’s MVs are in turn influenced by the US. Probably better just to enjoy the music and performance. The Li Yitong issue sounds like Hana and Sunhwa lol. That was fun to read.
  22. Hey much thanks! I’ve heard of 1931. But very hard to google for. I get a lot of WWII results. lol, Glad Seven Sense is doing well, I’m digging deeper into their work. The Star48 groups are all over youtube so they make following them easier. Their dance practices and stage shows draw me in. The other groups are far harder to find but could see mentions of them here and there. Wow, can’t wait to see all these groups in the show. @waitingfordebut, that worries me a bit. I hope I don’t across the winner while surfing and searching before I can watch the show.
  23. Thanks for the reply Zenist. Could you point out some of the other groups? And post some links to them? I found out about the older Seven Sense group while googling for the SNH48 subunit and was blown away by their music (and visuals.) I live in the US so I kind of depend on youtube. Other than major soloists like Jay Zhou and GEM and the Voice of China shows, I find getting new CPOP isn’t that easy.
