  1. Well, it is to be expected — a firestorm of hate: https://www.koreaboo.com/news/koreans-hate-idea-japanese-idols-produce-48-much-theyre-trying-get-cancelled/ My own family is pretty much pro-Korea on every topic involving Japan but this just makes me more interested in the show because it will be so controversial, so emotional to the general population that it is going to be the greatest drama ever!
  2. This is a crazy video with Cheng Xiao on her knees beseeching the 7Senses maknae. LOL Visual level off the charts in this one: Diamond, Eliwa, Tako, Akira and Lynn. And Kyulkyung and Kiki off to the side absorbed in themselves. Click here to view the Tweet
  3. LoL. It seems Kpop’s entire China Line past and present — Victoria, Jia, Cheng Xiao — can do those splits so I kinda already suspected a lot more in China who can do this. lol
  4. Okay, not saying that I have the same opinion but : 1) Many knetz already believe that the Korean national girl team was I.O.I and PD48 is not the same and in fact feels like it is just an excuse for Mnet to make money from AKS, 2) Because of the partnership, there is already suspicion that AKS members will be given a “pass†to make sure the Japanese are represented. Basically, knetz won’t believe unless they are shown real skills on stage. As I said, Sakura has to dance well or it will just re-enforce those feelings among Korean netizens. But if she is very good, I think they will give her chance. Agree, we do need a few high profile Korean trainees but Mnet not revealing until end of month is not helping with the conspiracy theories and stuff that are being speculated by knetz. Look at us, we are 100 pages in this thread without much real news! lol
  5. It better be a double center formation or knetz is gonna explode. And Sakura better be able to dance better than the average AKB48/46 member. I am not talking smack. The dancing issue is a valid one and has been recorded as legimate bone of contention in previous collaboration efforts: https://soranews24.com/2017/12/04/akb48-and-south-korean-idol-groups-perform-hits-at-music-awards-turns-out-to-be-a-disaster/amp/ It WILL turn into an international flamefest if an AKB girl is holding center and can’t dance. Knetz will not hold back. I can’t wait for this to begin!!! This mess will be so much fun!!! lol
  6. I’m suprised you knew the name of the girl being assaulted was Liu Zengyan! It took me awhile to match up her bikini to the photoshoots from Summer Pirates. lol So judging from the unique bikini top she was wearing, I think the offending girl was Zheng DanNi from Gnz48:
  7. Debunked? When? Where? If true, then how many? And what is the voting system? Or do we not know — like everything else in this mess?
  8. So, it is looking more and more like real Korean trainees (all in their teens) versus all Japan48 veterans, some of them already stars like Yukirin who’s 26 and had been on stage for 11 years! That is such a mess. It doesn’t seem reasonable to have a final group composed of 6 young trainees from Korea’s small agencies and 6 from Japan48 which I must assume would include stars like Yurina if they are included? It has a level of risk for the established Japanese names too. What if 48 stars are overshadowed by some Korean teenagers like Ahn Yujin in the final lineup? I think the Korean side will be visually imposing to the Japanese. They will be better dancers with bodies of dancers and they will be a lot taller. After combing through the Stage48 wiki’s profiles, the majority of AKB48’s girls are in the 150 cm range. KPop agencies look for 160 cm and above. That brings up the voting process. Supposedly in PD48, only Japanese can vote for Koreans and vice versa. The Wotas will be helluva more organized than the Korean fangroups for trainees. Will the opposing fanbases vote to get the best girls from the other side on? Or will they attempt to sabotage the other side? In which case, the Otaku fan-base will have a major advantage over the Koreans. This will be a fun mess to watch and figure out.
  9. I grabbed it from one of the SNH48’s documentaries on their Summer Pirates bikini MV. Their girls are visually amazing in swimwear and funny as hell off camera. In case people don’t know, SNH48 use top flight Korean film team ZanyBros for videos. So even though these concepts are not Kpop per se, they are filmed by Koreans. I think they are the best bikini MVs by far. The height and long legs of the SNH48 girls make their job easier I’m sure. lol I would love to see a Korean bikini shoot coming out of PD48!
  10. Thanks Gudetama (and Singnotes too.) It’s good to have multiple perspective. I asked because a good girlfriend (ex-GF) of mine loves Beach Boy and Jan and Dean music and beach movies from 1960s — she’s a California girl lol. Some 48 Bikini videos so we can see what we are talking about and because this is a slow news day for PD48 anyways Ponytail to Shushu Sayonara Crawl Manatsu no Sounds Good Summer Pirates (SNH48) — I found it on the SexyKpop69 Channel LOL https://youtube.com/watch?v=_uvjEXcoNiQ
  11. Besides Sunshine. I would stan 1931. SING. ETM. Mera. JC. Yuehua and Banana are too obvious for choices but will probably follow them anyways because of the Kpop angle. But I’m really intrigued by DreamMakers’s Julin (sort of like Somi being half-Euro but sexier): Click here to view the Tweet Click here to view the Tweet
  12. Yeah, I’m an international too —being from the States — so I do think about the global picture. But obviously, Mnet is not worried about market overlap when they licensed both shows. But as Meh says, the Ifans win either way and this is overall good for Asian music in general. Though in a perfect world, I rather one followed the other. Just my opinion. @Haru, Produce 101 got a boost in early March when Starship/Yuehua confirmed the WJSN China line. Then we began seeing lots of visuals from the other girls. I don’t know, maybe it is just me getting antsy waiting for more PD48 info. Hopefully, we’ll see more as we near end of the month.
  13. Maybe but PD101 might be a launch platform for them. It’s not 10 million but more like 50 million votes for their version of Kang Daniel. And they had this crowd waitng two hours for them at Los Angeles international: There is just so much money in the China market that eventually they’ll break through and they’ll do it using our ideas and skills. Ilbe had stories that while IP didn’t buy the license, they hired Koreans from the PD 101 production crew. Anyway, we need PD48 to start intro’ing the girls. The pace of this thing is too slow. It doesn’t feel right that we have no confirms this late in the game from the Korean side. Even the Japan48 list is late which makes no sense since AKB48 is a partner and should have been able to create a list early.
  14. Maybe I’m a petty kpop fan. lol. I understand they are different shows in different countries which is why Mnet decided to license both in overlapping time slots. But the global optics won’t be good especially when Produce 101 already has their contestants pictures and videos on Korean language sites and on twitter (which is blocked in China so you know Tencent is going after a global audience) while PD48 is all mystery with its girls, especially from the Korean side. The perception (correct or not) is that the Korean agencies are hesitant.
  15. Not sure this negative is confirmed. But if so that just leaves Pledis as the biggest name and even that is up in the air. Obviously no Big Three. But still the Korean side has basically no confirms just rumors. Click here to view the Tweet If this doesn’t pick up soon, this’ll be an one-legged show with all the heavy hitters on the Japan side only. With Tencent dropping $200M on PD101 China and Chinese visuals already all over twitter, daum, Ilbe and naver, PD48 might get blown out of the water before it even began. And we have a glimpse from IP on how high the voting numbers will end up in China. The comparison will look bad with the two shows going concurrently.
  16. Thanks Namida and also Doby, Soilei, Waycrispy and CurlyPoodle for your opinions. It saved me from watching hours and hours of guys when I want to spend that time researching and ogling girl groups lol. That said, I’m truly interested in our place on the global entertainment market. I think most Koreans know instinctively that China because of cultural and geographical closeness will always be our core market. Far better to have the Chinese copying Korean ideas than trying to do that with American ones. At least Korean aesthetics and tastes fit in far more naturally. As long as they feel the need to copy Korean they’ll hire Korean talent directly (Produce 101 license fir Tencent) or indirectly (Kpop stars as producer and mentors for IP.)
  17. Not really into BGs but I would like opinions from people who are into them and knowledgeable. My interest in Idol Producer is piqued by these three things: 1) it is a blatant unlicensed copy of Produce 101 S2 2) the top vote getter received nearly 50M f-ing votes (which is like the entire population of South Korea) 3) this had been one of the more popular OH topics the last few days I’m proud, not miffed, that this massive market depends on Korean ideas instead of its own. It means that as the East Asian media integrates and grows into the largest entertainment industry on earth, Korean braintrust and aesthetics will be on the very top of it. My opinion is, in general, copies are usually of inferior quality to the originals. You can copy the look and feel but you won’t have the same skills to pull off an equal execution. That said, I am interested to hear what are the opinions of people in this thread who have seen Produce 101 S2 as well and can give an opinion on the visuals, dance and vocals of 9 Percent versus Wanna One and the production value, editing and pacing of IP versus PD101.
