https://twitter.com/jiji_winkieboy/status/1116282596197978112 Am I the only one who felt a little bit uncomfortable watching this? Seems like Seungwoo went a little bit overboard here? Lol maybe I'm just too sensitive. Dongpyo is very cute tho!

looking at the song list, this time Mnet has 2 teams performing a debut song vs a popular/recent song of some notable gen 3 groups right? that's an interesting strategy to make this season different from the previous ones.
-
Maybe he's an actor trainee instead of an idol trainee? Also, his training time was 1 year 7 months according to his profile so he came to JYP right when they've already had set plan for Stray Kids. Given his age (20/21), by the time JYP plans their next bg, he would be too old. So my guess is he's gonna branch into acting regardless and Produce is a stepping stone for him to get his name out there.

Starship is really upping their Produce game ever since season 3 lol. Before that Yeonjung and Sewoon got treated pretty badly in PD101s1 and PD101s2 and one ended up at #11, barely made it to the group and one ended up at #12... Well can't blame them, it's business after all. Not to mention their trainees have the quality that Korean like, be it vocal talent or visual.
-
You mean like kids who are already popular and are anticipated to make it far? From what I've gathered, Cha Junho, Kim Mingyu, Kim Yohan, Kim Wooseok, Kang Minhee, Go Jungmo, Song Hyunjoong (among some others) are really popular. All the visual kids and kids from bigger companies are 90% guaranteed to make it to top 60. But to be able to debut in the final group is another thing lol it depends largely on how Mnet edits them so we can't say anything for sure at this point yet!
-
So it's more about your personal preference I see... but oh well, the list is not even confirmed so we don't know for sure if it's true or not but it seems like most of the songs will fall into the outdated, overused category for you anyway.
-
I get yout feeling but you must look at things from a producer's point of view. It would make more sense to cover established songs for reasons people have stated above. Plus, even if the songs were covered many times before, it doesn't mean that the team won't be able to create special moments out of it. Sorry Sorry or Boy In Luv came to my mind. And as far as I know, DNA or Love Like Oxygen haven't been covered a lot in any major music shows? There are a lot of popular songs that haven't been covered like an hundred times too.
-
Dunno why people negged you but you're right. Also people tend to forget that the public also watch Produce and they also play an active part in choosing the final group, and it makes total sense to cover songs that are popular to the public.
-
I don't think they will cover girl group songs at the first evaluation stages? In all Produce seasons, they only do same sex cover for the first round. Anyway, for the first round, PD101s1 covered 10 songs, while PD101s2 and PD48 covered 8 songs. So my guess is this season there would also be 8 songs too? BTS, EXO, W1, SEVENTEEN will for sure be covered, given that they are the biggest gen 3 groups at the moment.

Damn Starship trainees are SOLID! And I don't mind the voting being restricted to Korean only lol

idk how true this is but Starship at the lowest grade wth https://twitter.com/For_PRODUCEx101/status/1103669295228178433

Hmm as for mentors, this is my thought: - Vocal: Ailee, Chen/Baekhyun - Rap: Cheetah, an idol male rapper - Dance: Bae Yoonjung, Hoshi, Lia Kim My thought is that there should be an established idol mentor in every category

I think his drama is ending soon? But yeah I don't expect him to go all out like BoA because he's solely an actor and probably doesn't know anything about the idol training process (heck, even Jang Geunsuk and Lee Seunggi promoted as singers). Well I guess more screen time for the coaches then. Sorry for going into a rant here but now that I think about it BoA was so amazing. Her official title was "National Producer" aka the MC but she was really involved in the training process and she even asked Mnet to not include a lot of her footage so that the trainees could have more broadcasting time. Like, she truly cared about the trainees and she was there as much as she could for them... Truly the best host Produce ever had.
-
I'm disappointed that Mnet didn't choose an actress or a female idol but ngl Lee Dong Wook is a smart choice. Judging from the reaction of this news, a lot of muggles say that they're interested in watching this season because of LDW. And any die hard Produce franchise follower like me will continue watching it no matter who the host is so yeah. Mnet plays it safe by inviting an actor who is well known to the general public.
-
I feel like Mnet will announce that soon. I wouldn't mind having BoA as the host again, she's awesome and supportive in every way... Hmmm if Mnet manages to get Suzy to host this season I'll lose my shit XD

There are rumors of Boyfriend Minwoo and Teen Top Chunji joining this season of Produce...
-
nah that is not true. there are many different kinds of international schools and each of them has a different quota for domestic students. some only want less than 10% of their student population to be domestic and some want 50%. i don't deny a lot of asian parents are going overseas to give birth, but you don't need to be a foreigner to attend an international school.

Hi, just wanna chime in about the major choice. Apparently a lot of idols/actors who go to SOPA major in something that's different from their main talent (ie: 17's DK majored in Dance even though he's a main vocal, WJSN Exy majored in Performance Art even though she's a rapper).

Well Chanmi was never in Mnet's favor and I'd say she wouldn't make it to IOI anyway. Tbh I think Mnet will try to save Gaeun and Jurina's perf because Gaeun is the Korean center and Jurina is basically on par with Sakura in terms of their ranking in SSK. I kinda believe that Gaeun actually did pretty bad with her perf because she has a lot of fans (her intro video on Naver has a lot of likes and as far as know, only Korean can like a video on Naver), yet there's no post praising her skill whatsoever after the live recording.

In the female PD101 in China, there was a fancam of Xuanyi's team performance and their vocals were pretty bad, but when the episode was aired, viewers couldn't hear any fault in their voice, and Tencent went as far as to block that fancam out of all sns sites. So it's possible for sound engineers/editors to edit voice to make a perf better. Last year on Broduce, there were account on some certain teams saying that their voice cracked too, but ofc the broadcast version was near flawless.

Oh Wonyoung's romanized name is "JANG WON YOUNG" now. I guess Mnet fixed it. But still, it's kinda weird how her name was "Chang Yuan Ying" before.

Wonyoung's name is romanized as "Chang Yuan Ying" on PD48 official website so people are speculating she's actually Chinese. But she's only 14 and her Korean sounds perfectly normal to me, so maybe she's a half Chinese half Korean kid, or she's a Chinese with Korean ancestry like NCT's Renjun.

Oh maybe this is why Mnet decided to push PD48's airing time from May to June, right after SSK. Smart move.

I feel like Mnet did it on purpose to keep people interested? They started off with Pledis, WM and Woollim, which were pretty known companies, continue with lesser known companies and end with Sakura/Jurina or trainees from Starship and Yuehua. Kinda like in a fashion show, the most famous models will get to walk in the beginning and the end of the show, while the lesser known models fill in the middle. Also from the K side, bullying rumors have been arising. Let's hope they're all just fabricated rumors ><
