  1. Hi guys! I'm new here! I've been lurking in this thread even before the show aired.

So the fancams for the Dream team came out and I'm sobbing.

    https://youtu.be/Z8NFEXqpMA0

ASDFGHJKLQIIWOQNCKSL ARE THEY JUMPING ROPE OR SOMETHING BC it's HILARIOUS. WHO INVENTED THIS CHOREOGRAPHY. I find it really cute tbh.

I'm sorry if I sound like those S1 stans, but I didn't like how they did ChengCheng's killing part in this performance. I know they're still rookies but like, the reason why I fell in love with Dream was bc of ChengCheng's part. It just didn't have that feeling when I was watching this version of Dream. I'm sorry if I sound too disappointed.

Either way that center(?) The main vocalist(?) sounded really good during Huba's parts. Kudos to him.

    Welcome to the thread!

Ooof, no need to be sorry. I think we all expected that covering a season 1 song would draw too many comparisons.

  2. If this is true, we have a lot of controversial trainees this season....

Speaking of controversial trainees, why is Wang Jiayi still ranked so high? I want him out of Top 9.

Wang Jiayi is still ranked so high because the "controversial" post about him was not even true. It was out of context and not really translated properly. There was a clarification post. Unless you are referring to something else I haven't heard about.

  3. Yes, that is exactly what they are doing. You know there are S1 fans that hold everything in the original sacred. There will be a lot to talk about when we see the performances.

It's not even the fact that S1 fans hold everything in the original sacred that makes me not like the move. Tbh performing Dream or any S1 original song is just going to draw a lot of comparisons and take away from focusing purely on the performance.

  4. So far: Hu Chunyang, Jiayi, Lin Mo, Shi Zhan, Mingze, Zhenning, He Changxi, Wen Yechen, Xu Longhan

I actually like Wenhan, Youwei and Yao Mingming too but they're so popular that no need to vote for them lmao

._. Yeah, I have a bunch of picks that don't really need the votes atm. So now trying to concentrate on the ones that won't even make it past first elim sitting at the ranks they are now. :/

  5. who are your guys' current top picks?? Im struggling to use my 9 votes up everyday because I only really have 5 solid favourites atm and I dont want them to go to waste

rlytearpls.png Please if you have spare votes, help me save them. Zhenning, Jinfan, Zhanyu. <--- Pretty sure they are all really low atm. :/ And my other picks I think are safe for now: Shizhan, Jiayi, Linmo, Mingze, Shiyuan, Sijian.

  6. As someone who has spent a fair amount of time considering the nature of reality tv shows and really enjoys looking at and picking apart editing trends, structures in media in general, etc, just some thoughts:

The changes in both Produce101 China and Idol Producer are all clear signs of companies wanting to differentiate their versions from the original and tv producers wanting to put their stamp on things, but completely failing to align them with the integral set-up of the show and what made it work in the first place. Twists for the sake of twists to 'stir up drama' or 'make things more interesting' or whatever you would like to call it almost always backfire on the show attempting them and make them a less enjoyable experience and I've felt that in all 3 seasons. Even ignoring the editing problems on the Chinese versions (and they have a big one), their attempts at format changes that ultimately make them the inferior shows.

Mnet has done a good job of differentiating seasons and making some small tweaks that make each season distinct (3 different producer representatives, the change in how the first mission song teams formed, the concept song votes etc) and while they've done some shady goalpost moving (how many boys would survive the post-concept songs elimination in Season 2 being kept deliberately vague till the day of the cut for example), they've managed to keep up at least the appearance of the shows central conceit throughout; that is 'The results of the show are decided by the public. The public decides, the public produces.' The missions are there to facilitate that, and some may get more focus in the name of 'building a story' from the editors perspective, and the edit will inevitably not feature everyone and give some more of a shot than others, but videos of all trainees are made available and ultimately its the public to decide the winners, both in terms of the people who show up to the live performances and those who vote at home. Mnet featured Woojin and he shot up from the bottom, featured Juri and she remained pretty stagnant in place, featured Choyeon and she only survived a single elimination; they can try to make people a thing but ultimately the public does have a determining say.

That's why we're encouraged to think of the main MC as a producer themselves, and the other people on the panel as 'trainers' and mentors rather than 'judges'. The trainers rate, train and assist the trainees, but they are not there to eliminate or cast needless judgement; they're meant to be mostly constructive and give advice to try and get them ready for the performances. Even for stuff like assigning classes at the start, the framing idea is to put them into groups based on the type of training they will need to get through the theme song. even if in practical terms its different.

All that kind of seems to fly over the heads of the people in charge of Idol Producer. Even just in this season, its made their decisions feel needless at best, (the Greek chorus of the 'Art Advisory Group' which just takes up screen time and ultimately leaves us with no entrances that let us get to know people/less auditions/less reactions from other trainees which can only endear them to the viewer, thinking specifically of Jisung here) and mean-spirited and explicitly flying in the face of what the supposed set-up of the show is (only half the teams getting to perform). It sours the viewing experience long term in the name of a short term 'shocking moment'.

All that being said, nothing about his season has really grabbed me thusfar so I might just leave it be and wait for the official S4 since the Chinese shows just seem dead set on making themselves less than they could be.

Edit: Oh and I'll add I both respect Casper for calling total bs and leaving because of the twist if he did, and also that it's a real pity if so because I was hoping the show would set him up for a 'surprisingly IS a good fit for a potential group from this and will be the leader Dad' kind of run. God knows he's due some kind of luck.

Tbh, no one would have cared if they kept Idol Producer exactly the same as Season 1. Last season was by far the best season of any of these competition shows.

Also, imo, Mnet threw out all credibility after the season of PD48 tbh.

And unfortunately, the bolded part is actually something outside of Idol Producer's control. That part may have to do with tightening control over media in China at the moment. The only really bullshit thing is the cutting half the performances. Idk, they really didn't have to change that at all.

  7. The contestants with the pre-show hype I believe had more experience or exposure in the entertainment industry in China which to me is fair. I would be pissed off like Lay if people who have less than one month in the industry and getting higher ranked.

If you are talented and worked hard enough in areas where you need to improve you will be rewarded like You Zhangjing last season.

I would not name the contestant of the past season but I read that because of incessant cheating they almost banned the new groups from performing on TV (idol producer and PD101) and I believe they want to avoid such a case happening.

Yup, it's completely fair that Youwei is a legitimate contender for the #1 spot right now. rolleyes.gif

Pre-show ranking entirely widened the gap between the rich and the poor so to speak. Just because they informed people that the ranking was happening, doesn't mean it made it more fair. In fact, the pre-show voting made it seem like "these are the people that matter, and these are the ones that don't" right from the get-go. How on earth is that more fair?

As for that second part, they are now robbing contestants of the ability to do that too by not letting half the trainees even perform on stage for the first set of performances right before eliminations take place.

  8. Rumor was he questioned the legitimacy of Wenhan's team winning as his team was competing with Wenhan's team on the same song. Either it was him or his company that thought it was completely unfair. From the previews for next week, it seemed like the judges had a hard time deciding as both teams did really well. After each team performed the song once for the judges, the judges made them perform it together side by side to help make their decision. It's very upsetting, I really don't understand the need to make the show so dramatic. It was heartbreaking to see previews of the kids on teams that didn't win crying. I hope more people in China voice their dissatisfaction with these new rules so hopefully they don't get creative and add more unnecessary changes in the future. I like these kids and want them to enjoy their time there as much as season 1 kids, but it feels like the show is venturing off into the dark side.

:/ It's so stupid. There's absolutely no reason to cut one team from performing on stage.

  9. THANK YOU! Lay has asked here and there what is their dream but at the episode 3 they already don't let them perform and a lot of them will be eliminated too.

Ikr? You can tell who are the favorites only by the title screen on the first minute the position of the trainees changed a lot after one episode compare to IP1

I'm curious about how the band will do but they are all after 70th position unsure.png

Also somebody knows why Casper left? He was doing great and it could have been his moment

This actually grinds my gears a lot. :/ All the boys know how the show works. They are aware that like half of them will be eliminated at first elims, and the lower ranked boys KNOW that they're not in a favorable position. But they were probably hoping to stand on stage at least once since last season that was possible.

:( I really like the band actually. // Rumor is that Casper left since he found the show set-up with the not letting half the boys perform to be unfair. But not sure how true that is.

  10. can i just say a big f u to iqiyi for making that stupid rule of only one team getting to perform

literally the trainees are out there trying to reach for their dreams and practicing their heads off but iqiyi doesn't even give them a chance to perform in front of an audience on an stage. how are we supposed to even get to know these boys and discover their talents if they can't even show their faces to the public lmao. i rmbr s1 everyone was shook because yang feitong hit them with that high note, and before that, no one knew who he was (went from nugu to live vote rank #3 or smtg).

my boy yao mingming was crying his eyes out like he rlly went thru a lot and deserves the spotlight too TT and he changxi looked like he had soooo much stage presence from that 3 sec clip but i heard he might not be the team to perform

imagine going to the concert and not knowing ur pick wasn't gonna perform rlytearpls.png

but hi fellow ips2 followers i'm not a new acc i just forgot my old one

HI!!!! OMG SHIZHAN IS ONE OF MY FAVES.

  11. Look at our rap mentor After Journey looking like a big kid with Fan Chengcheng and Xiao Gui (IP1 & IP2 worlds colliding)

Ok, I just saw somewhere that Wang Zhe is a well known gamer. People call him the real life Xiao Nai (the #1 gamer character Yang Yang plays in the drama LoveO2O)

:o What is After Journey doing with FCC/Xiao Gui + also Zhangjing and Fei Qi Ming were there too actually. Did he guest for Beautiful Youth??

As for the gamer thing, that makes sense why he might be a bit more known then even if he only just joined Banana.

  12. I had to look up who Zhenning is, because I didn't remember their names. They all talked, but the emphasis was kind of what a troublemaker Shi Zan is. I think they also showed more moments of him in the audience, maybe because he was next Jia Yi and they show that boy a lot.

Yeah, I actually did notice that Shi Zhan got a lot of audience shots, but I attributed it to being next to JiaYi. I thought Zhenning had gotten a decent amount of preshow attention, but I guess not.
