Backstory in short: Matthew asked John two years ago if he could help him meet SNSD and that promise was kept and fulfilled tonight. John asked me for on-site assistance (as I speak both Korean and English, like he does) and when I knew my business trip to Korea and Japan would coincide with timing of Phantasia, rest was history. When we were escorted into the backstage area and we were off to the side, trying to take it all in. Taeyeon was a few feet away from me, talking to a group of people and Sunny walked by in front of me. There were a LOT of people, lots of friends and family. Yoona came out happily greeted a group of women standing behind me. She was literally behind me, back to back. Like less than a foot between her and I. Died a little on the inside and tried hard not to stare. John and I took photos for Matthew as his mom was handing out letters in pink envelopes that he had prepared for the girls. Yoona was the first to talk to Matthew. I explained to her in Korean that he came all the way from Hungary (his first trip ever!) to see SNSD. All of the members spoke good conversational English and spoke to him, asked him questions, thanked him for coming. Yong Deok manager-nim told us to move closer to the center of the room and that the members will come by. Seohyun, then Yuri came by separately to speak to Matthew. One of them (I can't remember if it was Seohyun or Yuri but I'm sure Matthew will remember, wait for his epic fan account) held his hands so tight as soon as they saw him. T_T Sooyoung was next, who was wearing a gray hoodie. Sooyoung, as she was about to take the photo, said to one of the managers, "Can you tell all of the members to come?" And they said they would all come one by one. As Sooyoung was taking photos with Matthew, Hyoyeon came and joined in! John remembered to give Hyoyeon her gift from the "I'm at the Paradise" fan project and when she received it, she was all "What is this?!" So I explained a bit about the fan project (it was a lucky coincidence that I translated the letter for this fan project from English to Korean so I knew about it) and Hyoyeon said "Wow~ Really?!" as she flipped through it. I told her I know the fans who prepared this project and asked her if it would be okay if I filmed a short video of her, so they know she received it and she agreed to it, without hesitation. <3 By the time I thanked Hyoyeon multiple times, Sunny was already talking to Matthew. Taeyeon came by as well, so they all posed together for a photo. I pointed out, "Oh, it's Dandyu!" And Sunny giggled and said "Dandyu~" in the cutest voice. T_T At this point, Ming Ming manager unnie asked me "Is Tiffany the only member left?" And I said yes. While waiting for Tiffany, I told Ming Ming manager unnie that she has a huge following in the SONE fandom and she seems quite shy and embarrassed about it. XD She shyly said "Thank you" and John said she should take a photo with me and she politely declined (and mortified?). Haha, such a diva Ming Ming unnie. Hehehehe. <3 Tiffany came and spoke to Matthew and posed for a photo. At first, she was holding Matthew's letter low but then she held it up and posed with it in the photo. So cute. This part is a bit of a blur but she gave John a big hug. John said, "I don't know if you remember me from..." To which Tiffany said, "I remember!" Then joked "Now we're both a little bit older..." I told her I translate for SNSD, which John reiterated and Tiffany said "Thank you! I know how hard it is!" And gave me a big hug. AHHHHH. Her hair smells amazing. T_T She was wearing rubber slippers and her ankles were in tension bandages. :( She was super excited and bubbly, as always, and kept saying "Thank you for coming" and "See you again"... Which led her to talking about TTS, telling us the exact date and general concept but also to keep it between us. She said come again for TTS, to which I said, "We all came from so far away". Tiffany asked "Oh, where?" "I'm from Canada. Matthew is from Hungary." "So far! How did you all meet?" I told her we all met because of SNSD to which she said "That's so cool!" Tiffany is AMAZING at holding eye contact in a conversation, I can't even. T_T Tiffany signed programs for both Matthew and I. I opened up the program book and Tiffany said "I haven't seen this yet!" After Tiffany signed, Sooyoung came back again to say goodbye and she signed the program for both of us as well. She had a bit of a mishap with Matthew's name. She asked for the spelling, which Matthew dictated but ended up writing M-a-t-t-h-a-w. After she did that, without anyone saying anything, she said "Oh, you said 'e' right?" and fixed it. XD That's pretty much it! All of the girls are freakin' ANGELS. It was unreal to get to interact with SNSD and I'm forever grateful because I know it's an opportunity that not every fan will get in their lifetime. I definitely added a lot of joyful core memories yesterday and today. I am so unbelievably happy for Matthew and his experience of a lifetime. He was one of the first SONE that I connected with when I started translating a little over a year ago. He was one of the first SONE whose message of appreciation for my translations really gave me the motivation to continue. He continues to be one of the first SONE to retweet, heart and respond to the translations I post. This could not have happened to a more deserving and kind person and it warms my heart. Matthew, it was so incredibly special to meet you on this trip and I truly hope it's a "see you later". Huge kudos to John, who made this ALL possible. You were lots of fun to hang out with and get to know. Sorry if I made you deaf with my screaming for the last two days. XD Last but not least, high-fives and hugs to SONE. Every SONE I met on this trip, you are all gems and I hope to see you all again soon, wherever our crazy fandom takes us.
