Bang Chan was also born in s.k, i guess once their baby/childhood Korean passports ended, they've chosen to give it up and not renew them whilst renewing their Australian/Canadian ones. Childhood Korean passports only last 5 years. yeah maybe Eric never had US citizenship after all, he might have just had a study visa or something

gfriend, when they were doing their anime opening style songs -
girl crush/teen crush
-
very inspired by 90's - 2000's fashion and aesthetic, with pastel and futuristic, social media elements. movies like clueless (1995) being described as "highteen" is where the trend started. usually the sound is on the softer side and when girl groups do it, often bubblegum fashion - mv's -
-
i think aesthetically these videos are just 2010's bubblegum kpop, not highteen at all the song is girl crush verses and bridge with a bubblegum chorus, the styling is clearly very inspired by itzy's icy mv video and concept photos with the fashion and mirror ball sets. they definitely found their own sound and style since and did highteen amazingly in i dont miss u tho
-
agree that cherry bullet's Q&A minus the clothes is very highteen, they just didn't have the y2k styled clothes yet, early 2019 was the billie eilish punk styled clothes kind of revival so there was a lot of black, checked patterns and chains but they mixed it really well with the pastel/futuristic aesthetic and it was honestlly before its time. I reckon tag me is inspired quite a bit from q&a, they just took the fashion a bit further sound wise pristin and early twice are very similar to stayc and weeekly and i think its because it's just bubblegum kpop. and fashion wise they just mixed clothes that were trendy at the time with school uniform elements lol... not really highteen
-
honestly highteen is a visual aesthetic not a sound, girl groups have been doing bubblegum concepts since forever which videos do u consider highteen? curious to know
-
I think it was a western trend first - the y2k clothing style took over western countries beginning of last year, Korea took the clothing trend and created the term 'highteen' to refer to the style and 90's - 00's teen romcoms and the whole era's aesthetic being portrayed in visual media. The pastels and crop styled clothes have become a huge trend in Korea this summer and they definitely weren't last year. as for which kpop group jumped on the trend first in a recognisable way, i think it was weeekly last year, other groups were still doing the girl crush with the strappy, neon coloured shirts and cargo pants lol StayC's debut wasn't highteen, it was the sophisticated style you mentioned, Woo Ah! and Cignature's both debuted with girl crush. Woo Ah! in May vs Weeekly in June of 2020

TXT came through, the change is happening

bts is an abnormal case thats exactly what i've said, TXT and Enhypen are nowhere near flops and to say that would be ridiculous but also to think that they (or any other group in the entirety of kpop) could fund what HYBE is doing currently would be ridiculous. it's only BTS that has made this possible and I don't think HYBE have evened out other areas of revenue and income yet. They have these young groups who are doing well, but have lost their girl group, their gaming projects never seem to go to plan, their korean textbook/learning materials thing hasn't worked out yet either, what happened to vlive becoming beNX? and whilst Zico is in the military they are letting his company sit there and do nothing
-
financially they ARE only relying on BTS. TXT and Enhypen are doing very well for 4th gen groups. they are young and still growing but they make up less of 3% of last years 86.2 billion profit (not to mention that half of Enhypen's profits go to CJ E&M) and now with how much HYBE are investing in different areas, building new buildings and fan museums and acquiring other companies - without BTS's constant stream of income all of it would fall apart and it would be impossible to keep any of it going.

1. GFriend disbanding, their only girlgroup. Now Pledis, BigHit & Source have a terrible track record of treating their female artists well and creating a long-lasting girl group. this huge company and Nana is the only active female artist promoting in Korea... 2. Long-term staff being fired (like Doo Bu from BeLift) and quitting (Source Music staff) 3. Seventeen members writing shady comments about their management on WeVerse during their 6th anniversary SC : I like the 'without any regrets' #/Pledis HS : #/Pledis #/Hybe HS : Let's go 4. Nana not reuniting with After School for their reunion 5. Nu'est lack of promotions 6. 7. The company is being kept alive by BTS, all of their business, investments, gaming, solutions, everything is being kept alive by a single group, bts aren't an ordinary group, but it's still a precarious place for a company to be in 8. Has Zico and his company even done anything since joining HYBE?? I thought by now they'd have signed more artists and tried to make a solid khiphop and r&B sublabel akin to h1ghr 9. also wtf is up with the "upcycling lab" where they just cut up bits of the artists clothes and stick them in plastic and sell them for profit instead of having the clothes on display for fans to see or idk donating them and not causing more plastic waste i haven't seen any artist get any benefit from HYBE as the company seem to be placing their interests in the business side of things and becoming a chaebol like conglomerate instead of developing and investing in their current artist lineup and creating and signing more diverse talents and groups.. i really don't know what direction their gonna go in as a company and what they are gonna do when BTS start enlisting

i honestly think this is their weakest title track, its a shame as la di da was god tier also i think girl crush concept is starting to die, the only group that does well with girl crush nowadays is blackpink - it didn't even work for itzy on their last comeback

06...... Sua is 7 years older than her....... nah bro what i know there have been kpop idols debuting at 14/15 since forever but I still really hate it, they miss out a huge part of their childhood/teen years. I wish they debuted them all at 18 and above when they're an adult and have at least finished schooling

Astro - i've seen so many eunwoo, rocky, sanha and moonbin stans but jinjin and mj stans are basically nonexistent internationally, but mj has his iconic funny moments and in korea apparently has quite a few lgbtq+ fans so it seems jinjin's popularity is a lot lower than the others. He's also the only one with girlfriend rumours, which the korean fans didn't take too well.... with Astro, this directly correlates into solo work - eunwoo and moonbin have lead roles in dramas, sanha has a subunit with moonbin and MCing, mj does musicals and was a part of a trot group, rocky has appeared on dancing shows, but the first regular solo work jinjin has done is THIS year, literally last month, which is a podcast with pentagon's kino groups like seventeen, red velvet, itzy, twice, bts... let's be honest with ourselves, they are all famous. they all are booked and busy and have thousands upon thousands of fans - some members might be more well known but as they are from a famous group it will never affect them like it does mid to lower popularity groups

seeing as how im in tears watching it, this must have been so hard for them to watch. they are incredibly strong and yes, i think it should have been discussed with them before hand

it rly is so good - its so sad it didnt blow up

S.E.S. officially only lasted 5 years but they came back and celebrated their 20th anniversary with a concert, an album and fanmeet Spice Girls go on hiatus and then go off hiatus all the time lmao but they celebrated their 20th anniversary with a new song and later did a tour, except victoria cuz she was too busy being rich and married to a footballer i guess idk Perfume queens have actually stayed together for 20 years and had their 20th anniversary beginning of last year with a dome tour

100% i agree with you here, the groups that you mentioned defined and made the genre so its only natural that all of the artists who follow have some kind of influence, but all genres are like this, the big artists who define a genre influence others - of course all of these groups are influenced by blink just as blink themselves were influenced by punk bands like descendents, who when you think about it are just as much of a backbone of pop punk then, as without them, blink 182 wouldn't exist its only to say that the genre hasn't progressed at all from that point or that new things and sounds haven't been added, that is where i disagree, in every generation things change.
-
hmm I disagree with you lol - olivia's music is clearly very inspired by paramore and good 4 u gives very similar vibes to misery business but I like this, its brining this sound to a new generation. teens Olivia's age would have been toddlers and very young children when this sound was big, they missed out on enjoying it entirely. music loops around. you do definitely have a point and there are many traditional pop punk bands out there that sound very similar to blink-182 and green day as well as groups that are their peers like sum 41 and linkin park, but i guess this is to be expected since they were pioneers in the genre and during the 2010's the only real noticible change in sound was that pop punk got even poppier with groups like 5 seconds of summer and waterparks who mixed in the more "boyband" style but this didn't kick start the popularity in the genre again this resurgence is due to 2020's pop punk sounding different and its due to emo rap and hip hop bass heavy trap mixed with pop punk.. there is no way 24kgldn sounds like blink 182. There's a whole host of new artists with this sound like machine gun kelly, iann dior, maggie linderman, lil huddy, ashnikko, and jxdn even amongst the more typical pop punk arists, the bands are more diverse than ever, with more women and different countries and ethnicities who in my opinion, definitely add something more than the basic pop punk group made up 5 or 6 american white guys and thats not even getting into the amount of music thats coming out that mixes other styles with pop punk and alt rock, as i mentioned there are so many groups now mixing hyperpop, dreampop, shoegaze, lo-fi, glitchcore and bedroom pop - there are so many artists mixing and playing with these genres, making entirely new sounds

I’m not American, this trend goes wider than just the US. Thailand’s staple music has been indie rock and beach surf rock for many years for sure and I like a lot of the bands but it’s not exactly the sound I’m getting at anyway, most gen z artists from around the world who have creative control over their music are making music with alt elements, and even the younger kpop boy groups have just about started to head in this direction on b-sides like NCT Dream and TXT and interestingly on Oh My Girl’s newest ep. It seems it’s slowly starting to appear. The gen z alt style of music is completely popular in CPop and many younger CPop artists and idols have made this sound their own - Justin Huang , NINEONE#, Lil Ghost of the top of my head, most Chinese hip hop artists too Japan is another home of Alt music and hyperpop:, gen z artists on the rise include 4s4ki and chanmina and in Korea itself, Ash Island, Trade L, BIG Naughty, Vinxen, Lil Cherry are just a few examples of new Gen z artists who write their own music and surprise, they all have alt rock/hyperpop elements. there is also Indonesian rappers Warren Hue (& rich Brian), British Filipino singer Beabadoobee, Korean American Audrey Nuna and honestly countless more. This isn’t just a western trend, all of these young singers who are just starting to appear (like VERY recently) and rise are taking pop and hip hop down these new paths
