  1. They're supposedly getting like a 20-minute set? This is going to be epic.
  2. I'm thinking this may be a sensual bop in the spirit (lyrically) of Fifth Harmony's 'Write on Me' but hopefully much different sonically. They all look so gorgeous, and stunning, and hot. WheeSa are going to kill me this era especially.
  3. I shrieked so loudly at that teaser. They won't let me rest. I can't wait.
  4. If the last three years were merely the "start" then my body and soul aren't ready for what they have for us next. Although what is that sack they've got Hwasa wearing on the shots they've shown?
  5. Been searching for Hwasa fic for a minute, finally found one I actually like. Hwasa x R.M. (BTS): https://archiveofourown.org/works/13043904
  6. Pure art. I love her with black hair so much. Also, she needs to do indie movies or something, she looks like a character in film.
  7. I agree with others, Mamamoo has not yet reached what some like to call the imperial phase for a girl group/musical act. Each new era has brought such development in them as artists, and it shows in the growth of their numbers. Re: Immortal Songs rankings: it's Backwoods, Delilah, Wonderful Confession and Love for me, in that order. The others are all good to great, too, but I don't feel the urge to revisit them as I do these four.
  8. Gahhh, that was so good! How are they so good? They're one of few performers who make me just stare at the screen in wonder whenever they're onstage (Beyonce, Bruno Mars and a couple others fit in this category). They are so good and they love it so much. I didn't think the drums were necessary, if I'm honest but I dig it if only because they show yet another thing they're good at. I'm so glad they won. Re: "Yes I Am", I think that song will be a fan favourite for years to come. Everyone I show it to, loves it, especially all my queer friends, lol. It's a very classic song. I bet if it had just one major performance on an awards show or something, it would swing up the charts. It's one of those songs that becomes super-anthemic when performed live. I keep returning to all their live performances and never feel compelled to fast forward even once. Hopefully they'll get to rock the Seoul Music Awards again (poor Baekyh*n won't survive) or whatever else is coming up in January.
  9. I hear you re: the over-inflation of "success" or certain markers (like you're never going to hear ANY of these groups on US radio, maybe a couple of weeks as a novelty because the fandoms are tweeting radio channels aggressively but in terms of long-term radio impact? Never gonna happen. And people do keep mistaking YouTube views as a measure of sustainable success, which is... a choice). And yeah, I back-read all of the cultural insensitive scandals - the fannish rage is so selective, I don't know a single Kpop group that hasn't done something messy on that front but the vitriol I read directed at MMM in many a discussion here and other forum was something else. I hadn't even thought about the non-English speaking member, that makes sense. I also hate the idea of a group ~pandering~ (not sure if there's a nicer word for what I'm trying to say because it's not necessarily a bad thing to do so) to Western markets, so I really don't want that for MMM e.g. I love that they had the guts to release something like Aze Gag which an international fan like me might not really understand at all even though I cackled through the video, and love the song. I saw some Western fans/YouTube reactors complaining that they didn't get it and all I could think was, 'GOOD! Not everything has to cater to your cultural understanding.' I'll hope for them expanding to other Asian markets, though. I just want them to be as successful as possible (and, to be blunt, I want the girls to make good money and to be in a good position to pursue other projects alongside the group). Another Little Mix comparison is that they are hugely successful in the UK/Europe with big support in other markets but have never really broken in the USA despite much effort, and it hasn't hurt them at all. Some people call them flops but they were the biggest touring act in the UK for like two years running, they get good endorsements, they're proper celebrities over there and the girls are able to support themselves/their families. I'd like to see a similar trajectory for MMM.
  10. I have to say, I'm really loving Hwasa with this long black hair. I hope she keeps it - she looks like walking art in some of the pics I keep seeing of her. For everyone who's been here a while, I've been wondering as I fall deeper into the radish pit, do you all think Mamamoo could blow up internationally? It feels very much to me that they're on the brink, they just need the right song and timing. Already they've defied the odds and become so successful in Korea, and to be well-respected for their talent first (most singers/groups can go their whole existence never achieving that). In fact, they remind me a lot of a UK girl group Little Mix in terms of the insane talent, charming attitude and fun, empowering vibe; less ~conventional~ (but beautiful) looks and musicality (the harmonies, distinctive sound etc.). And the real sense that these are artists who would not hit a "ceiling" creatively i.e. they could and will keep getting better at what they do because they love it so much, they're perfectionists and they're damn good at it. I just feel like they need that one song (or three) that will take them to the next level. What do you guys think? And is this something to even want/hope for with them?
  11. De-lurking to say 'Hello!' I just recently fell into Mamamoo (more like flung myself into everything about them when I accidentally saw one of their live performances on my friend's computer). And am now presently obsessed. Anyway, just reading through the thread and the great discussion, and figured I ought to introduce myself.
