It will be hard for most idols to reach Taeyeon's level of success. The leader of the greatest girl group in kpop, and renowned for her vocals and visuals. Musically in Korea though - 1. Twice - Chaeyoung. She's seen as the artistic one. I think Nayeon will go to acting personally. 2. Red Velvet - Seulgi. Why she hasn't gone solo yet is beyond me, but then again, Taeyeon didn't until really late in the game either. I can see them going down the Boa path with some crazy choreos. She's also my pick for most likely to succeed solo out of all the groups. I think Joy is a dark horse for this too. I think she's had more successful OSTs than the others possibly. I could totally see her doing something like Trot and having a smash hit. 3. Blackpink - Jennie, but would be short lived. I think she will be do more outside of music. IMO Lisa won't do that well in Korea solo, but would be massive in SEA. 4. Oh My Girl - YooA probably. Don't know if any of their members have the popularity yet to go solo. Thought they are on the up. 5. Lovelyz - Kei is the closest, but no way she will reach Taeyeon style success. 6. Gfriend - Yuju coz of the pipes, but don't see the same level of success. Maybe Eunha, but don't think it will just be music.

Fortunately I don't have a specific bias in Red Velvet and I like their music so I would still follow them. They're the only group where I like every member. For every other group though, I don't think i would follow the group outside of maybe checking out their comebacks. Thinking about it, it's the same in sports for me. I tend to follow the players, not the teams.

My pick would be GFriend. They have a similar sort of vibe/concept to Apink. When you look at the majority of the other groups - I think they have members that will all leave at some point to promote individually. GFriend doesn't really seem to have that one member that stands out. They are a very balanced group. I don't see many of them doing individual activities but I also don't follow them that closely Twice - J-Line & Tzyuyu will likely end up promoting in home countries. If/when they permanently lose a member it's going to be SNSD 2.0, and another group will rise to take the throne Blackpink - Jennie will eventually go solo, Lisa eventually back to be biggest star in Thailand/SEA. YG worst company at giving promotions Red Velvet - SM will eventually lessen their promotions with the new GG - Joy, Irene acting/MC, Seulgi/Wendy Solo, Yeri MC maybe OMG - Maybe a chance, I think Arin/Jiho will get into acting at some point though. Lovelyz - Woolim will probably cast them aside for Rocket Punch when Eunbi n Chaewon are done with Izone. They can't really be called successful in the same way as Apink. Mamamoo - more a BEG style group, they will have longevity as long as the members want it IMO - but members will have a lot of solo projects WJSN - similar to Lovelyz, their success isn't on the same level as Apink. Bona to acting. Will no doubt get cast aside for the next Starship group with Wonyoung and Yujin after Izone is done.

Kinda surprised there's only one or two that mentioned Loona. Chuu, Haseul, Heejin, Jinsoul, Yves, Lip all all Main/Lead worthy. The only one that I probably consider weak is Gowon. I don't think Vivi and Yeojin get enough lines to showcase what they can do.

IMO, there's been less opportunity for the current gen compared to the second gen. There used to be lots of idol centric shows, but seems like there is way less nowadays and the stigma of being an idol is worse than what it used to be. Even if you use something like Running Man as an example, they have far less idols on nowadays compared to the earlier episodes. There used to be all these hilarious shows that even nugus would be on, pitting them against each other in all sorts of challenges. But if I had to pick some girls from the third gen that are a bunch of crackpots, then Joy, Yeri, Wendy, Dahyun, Sana, Sejeong, Yena, Yujin, Yerin, Hani, Bomi, Namjoo, Mijoo, Olivia Hye, Kim Lip, Yuqi, Shuhua are some off the top of my head.

I'm probs gonna get downvoted here, but if there is 3 to leave out in the group, it's those 3. They add the least to the group unfortunately. Haseul's a good singer, but unfortunately doesn't really stand out. The vocalists behind her have noticeably unique voices imo. Jinsoul, Heejin, Kim Lip, Yves - and they can all belt too, so it's not like Chuu carrys them vocally. Vivi's supposed to be a visual, but doesn't stand out in this role as the group is full of stunners. She also gets like no lines or screen time. It's pretty tragic tbh. And Yeojin in the maknae role kinda gets overshadowed by Chuu, Choerry and Gowon when it comes to cuteness. Honestly, I feel like she fits in the least in the group for some reason. Don't know whether it's coz of her height, or coz she seems a bit immature, but she seems to be a bit of a side member tbh. Similar to Vivi, she doesnt really get many lines or screen time.
