  1. I mean, they have 12 member. Idt getting more line than only one person can be considered prominent....

It's more prominent than in AKB when she's in senbatsu but not the center though, isn't it?  From what I could tell most senbatsu members don't get individual lines, on top of there usually being more than 12.

Of course, for AKB you buy to get handshake slots (or voting slips), and in kpop they usually don't do HS events even in Japan, they do fansigns or high-fives.  But the majority of non-Japanese fans don't get to go to HS events often anyway so it's not really different after all.  And there's a hard limit to how many CDs can be sold thanks to HS slots, since she can only shake hands for so long.

  2. Not sure about this, jiho*n didnt really get more line than other despite coming #2 and have bigger fandom.

The producer will still choose the one that most capable to sing the lines.

For cf, photoshoot or mv screentime.....maybe, big possibility

I'm not talking about her getting lines due to her popularity, I'm saying that for the near future I doubt there's a producer who would give her less lines than Hyewon. XD  (Well, I guess that's just based on ability, especially in performance.  If a producer just happened to like the sound of Hyewon's voice in the studio more, I guess it could happen.  Producers aren't gonna make them dance while singing to check if they can do it live, after all.)

    look at their heights

    40612722_114556846163377_380250988918865

Doesn't really seem to scale... that's not 3cm difference between Wonyoung and... Minjoo?  And definitely not 1cm difference between her and Chaeyeon, and definitely not 1cm difference between Chaeyeon and Sakura... and so on.

  3. Maybe if she was the center, most Sakura fans will only buy if she is featured prominently.

What, do Sakura fans not buy AKB48 releases where she's in senbatsu but not the center?  There's only 12 girls in iz*one and she's practically guaranteed to have more lines than some, how prominent does prominent have to be?

If they do go for a zodiac theme, who would fit with which sign?

    Aries - Yuri

    Taurus - Hyewon

    Gemini - Nako

    Cancer- Sakura

Leo - Wonyoung because she's the center and Leo's love being the center of attention lol

Virgo - Eunbi. I think Virgos are good leaders.

Libra - Minju, she always looks undecided

    Scorpio - Yena

    Sagittarius - Chaeyeon

    Capricorn - Hitomi?

Aquarius - Yujin, she never shuts up lol

Pisces - Chaewon? She has a dreamy fairy quality to her. Sakura could fit too

Zodiac concept seems bizarre when, you know, these girls have actual birthdates and corresponding signs. imstupid.png

    DmJyMVBU8AA5oCz?format=jpg&name=large

    Why is Chaeyeon normal. XD

I remember Dream Girls of I.O.I really have a good message, but many still ended up hating it because of its cute concept.

Can't be because of the "cute concept," VVV is cute but the song is just much catchier.

  4. Honestly this group seems to have a solid foundation in fans.  The girls were all voted in with majority female votes, except for Minju (who was still even) and Hyewon (so maybe she'll lag a bit in fansites to start with).  In a normal girlgroup that's a great sign for CFs, since girls can easily sell things to other girls, but we already know (?) they have CFs lined up for this group.

Korea won't like a Japanese to be a star in CF as well especially from AKB

They're fine with Twice's J-line and now they will not be marketed as "from AKB", they'll be from Produce48/IZ*one, so.... Â¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  5. Guys, what are the rules of this thread? Are we allowed to post stuff (positive things) about eliminated members? If not, then that's fine.

The official PD48 thread has become an absolute cesspool...everything there is just bashing the main team, wishing for flops, and conspiracy theories.

"Eliminated members" of the show are not members of iz*one, though.  Unless they're interacting with an iz1 member that should be off topic.

Is there any difference between center and face btw? Wonyoung won #1 she's gonna be their face of the group too obviously

Sakura is going to be shafted, it's not like she can get more lines and probably always dancing at the back.

Even from the show, Mnet has been very obvious of their bias toward Starship, while using Sakura as a bait and drama.

I also think the company will start pushing other girls as well like Chaewon who has more natural image and Minju, Hyewon for their visuals.

People write screeds on this... in non-kpop-exclusive use, "face" = the person "people" think of when you mention the group, so not necessarily the most personally popular one but the one that people associate with the group.  Center seems to be someone companies want to say "embodies" the group somehow, but that seems like nonsense to me, since kpop groups usually change concepts a lot and have limited input into their songs/concepts/whatever, so it sees like not a designated thing.  So center feels like someone the company actively pushes as opposed to the face just arising (of course the face could become the face because the company pushed them).  (It doesn't matter that "center" was determined by a plurality of votes in produce, it's still up to management to follow through.)  And in kpop, center seems to get the center spot in beginnings and endings of performances, and maybe in promotional photos and such.

As for the "role" of visual... it's a non-role.  Obviously appearances are important in kpop, but if the designated center is going to be made the most visibly prominent then there's nothing that distinguishes a designated visual from other members.  People have their own tastes and won't magically all agree on what member is the most beautiful anyway, and even if they did they may still prefer looking at other members because of "charisma" or just because they like them on some other level.

  6. 1.5? I thought it was 2.5 years

2.5 years is the length of the total contract.  1.5 years is the rumored length of the exclusive period where their original companies won't put them in their own groups (interfering with iz1 promos) but which has not been confirmed by any official source.  From past seasons we can apparently expect contract details to come out in a week or two.

  7. Some general thoughts about Produce and other competition shows with audience participation....

I really don't care that I don't get to vote.  To me, the result is the same as when a company selects a group's lineup without any outside input.  Even if I got to vote, that doesn't suddenly give me ownership of the results (even if they happen to align with my preferences).  I'd be one voter out of hundreds of thousands (or maybe more).  That's all my opinion amounts to.  That the cumulative result is whatever it is doesn't change the fact that no one person was responsible for the lineup.

I'm an American, but Trump is not my fucking fault, ok? imstupid.png  (That said, people should absolutely vote in real elections.)

The next point is... the elected center of the group.  I like Wonyoung myself, but in general people should realize that 1-pick doesn't say anything about who the (current) fandom collectively thinks should be the center.  A plurality is totally different from a majority.  Even in season 1, Somi had a commanding lead above Sejeong, but (assuming I added correctly) 858333/4673791=18%.  The other 82% of the fandom didn't want Somi to be the center, they presumably all wanted some other girl.  They simply accepted the results, because that's the name of the game.  Still, depending how it's handled I don't see why it should be a big deal.  Yena and Chaeyeon (and Wonyoung?) were centers for performances in the final ep and both spent a decent amount of time not being in the center with other girls getting focused on.  I dunno about ioi and w1 but usually in kpop most members get some focus, and the gaps in popularity in iz*one aren't big enough for me to think some girls will get straight up ignored.

Related point about voting....  I'm not a fan of the idea of there being a set 6:6 ratio.  Effectively that means there would be no direct competition between korean and japanese contestants, and the way I was looking at this show all along was that it's a Produce show where there are some 48G girls who are seeing how they'd fare in this kpop competition environment.  So it should be a free for all.  But even I feel slightly iffy about the 9:3 result.  I think maybe it would have been ok to say that the top 4 korean and top 4 japanese girls were in, regardless of how they do relative to each other, and the 4 girls with the next highest vote totals are in regardless of nationality.  That way you can ensure a slightly nicer-feeling ratio but still have competition between the girls.  (Although, with that we would have Miho rather than Chaeyeon, and like Sakura I would prefer to have Chaeyeon in the group than another Japanese girl, even if it's Miho. :( )

  8. Guys, did you heard the news that Hyewon was the last trainee to leave PD48 final shooting building? they said her company leave first without telling her and she was waiting for someone to pick her up almost pass midnight. all the staff was wandering why no one pick her up and have stay with her to kep her company. I'm smelling a bad managing from 8D to Hyewon. imagine if Hyewon family were not there to support her, how would she come home?

Lawd, poor thing.  Well, presumably she'll be in decent hands for at least the exclusive period and the girls can help take care of each other.

  9. But why have Japanese members then if this is the basic gist of it? K groups have been fine promoting in Japan without J members for years already.

If you're gonna say "to be unique!"; then again, its moot. Because TWICE exists, and currently the most successful Korean GG in both Japan and South Korea.

I thought it was pretty much understood that (like Johnnies?) AKS blocks rival girlgroups from getting good promotional outlets in Japan.  And kpop groups can't just go on the relevant music shows in Japan right away, they have to work their way up in a roundabout fashion and prove themselves to already be relevant before they're invited.  Twice debuted in Japan 1.5 years after their SK debut when they already hugely solidified their status among kpop fans (including Japanese ones).  But iz*one doesn't have the time to work their way up organically.

    lol the last part

But then you think... these are all actually pronounced <whatever>-zu-one. ohdearplz.png

    Who is Chaemin, then?

  10. And also I bet Minami is enjoying it tbh, she's still a kenkyuusei so this is new to her

I thought someone here said that 48G were not supposed to accept expensive gifts from fans....

As for IZONE, I am still getting around to this group, but I am still trying to convince myself that this is a complete group. Usually when you have a KPOP group with 10+ members they will be called "versatile" because duh, they have everything from dance, vocals, rapping, variety, visuals, because duh they have 10+ members so it will be an embarrassment to have a platoon and still not be versatile. This goes with Wanna One, EXO, IOI, Cosmic Girls, Seventeen etc.

    For example:

Like if Hyewon rapped just for one second on their debut song, that is just a no-no.... so I am torn because for me IOI's career ride was better than their show . I think for IZONE, the show will be a better ride for me as a fan than their career as IZONE. And that is just a letdown if they do not have enough to go to Sugarman, Immortal Song or YHY Sketchbook. I do not like them just going to Weekly Idol.

I was waiting for this season to get back to my high as a KPOP fan when I stanned IOI. This may not be the group that does it for me. But I will do my best to support. F me I am just nostalgic.

Uh, literally the only thing this group lacks is an acknowledged good rapper, though.  They have vocals, dance, variety, visuals on top of visuals... they also have at least one k-actress, though I dunno how she is at that.  (And I understand that Sakura (and Nako?) have acted in 48G productions before as well.)

what is with you all and using the term i-roach? i only notice people using that when they're trying to fit in with knetz. it's weird.

Because certain fans deserve the term.

  11. I saw this on their Wikipedia page

"Pledis Entertainment and Stone Music Entertainment in South Korea, and AKB48 in Japan"

Looks like they'll be managed by these companies

There's no source for that, it seems to be fan speculation.  This thread seems about as up-to-date as the people editing that wiki entry are.

I’m so excited for this group, the reality show is going to be so much fun watching the girls move in together. Apparently Yujin and Wonyoung are supposed to be a bit fluent in Japanese because starship has a Japanese trainee and they are planning on debuting their next girl group in Japan. Yena was honestly the biggest suprise for me, I’m so happy she made it in. I can’t believe we are going to get more Very Very Very red team interactions.

I know iz*one hasn't even started, but I'm actually neomu neomu neomu interested in the next Starship GG. XD

apparently official role is revealed on fancafe?

    Hyewon : Sub Rapper

Yujin : Sub Vocal, Sub Rapper

Assuming this is legit, I feel this is a good indication that there's not going to be much rapping in iz*one's songs (unless someone shows some improvement) by default.

IZ*ONE members songs participations (more like a SakuNako discography lmao):

Maybe bold the A-sides and indicate which ones have PVs?  (Or do they all have PVs...?)

It's so dumb to base this show off of individual fanbases, and then not do individual album covers. That would guarantee I buy at least 3 albums each release (Minju, Chaeyeon, Nako) + possibly more since I'm warming up quickly to Sakura and Yena.

That can get messy not because of competition and fans being nasty but because some covers might run out sooner than others and they might not order another run of a specific cover, and then fans won't necessarily be able to get the version they wanted.

Am I the only one who sees this survival show having 12 winners???

I understand the need of ranking in a show like this but because this is a show where in the end the top 12 form a group, whoever my bias is my only wish is for them to be in the top 12, meaning I dont care if they are 1st or 12th as long as they debut.

This season my bias was Eunbi ( great leader, good dancer and vocalist, visual and funny).

Well, I mean, only #1 has a supposed special privilege so #2-#12 are pretty much the same, but certainly getting into the group alone is enough to celebrate.

i don't mind random photocards, but is it cheating if i buy a photocard from ebay imhappyplz.png

You can also trade with other fans, I guess.

I was thinking that but then I realize they'll going to need a translator 24/7, lol.

I feel like google translate (or whatever) should actually work decently for korean<=>japanese when the official translators aren't around.  The languages have lots of similarities.

lol they locked the show thread

    lol

  12. Barely anyone bashed somi and daniel as center for their talent. Everyone know they are great performer and daniel is co choreographer of 2 song in produce, a dance teacher for b class, go up to a class and always execute everything really well. People only conplain about somi viice color but it wasnt much either.

S2 big backslash is only jonghyun and samuel not making it, and their target of anger was never daniel, its baejin, guanlin or jisung

Well people can't really bash Wonyoung for her talent either... likewise the target here is Hyewon.

  13. Chaeyeon looked like she was going to break down while waiting for the ranking announcements. It was hard to watch her in that state. She really went through a lot. She really deserve a spot in the final top 12.

Seriously, while waiting for the no12 spot announcement I thought LSG must really be able to shut off his sympathy.  It just dragged out sooooo long, and even with one girl being really happy at the end of it it's still a huge disappointment for the other three.

  14. S1

    Somi: 858,333

    Sejeong: 525,352

    now that's domination.

Disclaimer: to be fair, that has international votes mixed in but my point still stands. Wonyoung won. Absolutely. But destroyed her opponents? HAHAHAHA nah. Congrats to her tho.

Well yeah, it's nothing on season 1.  But in this season it the biggest margin anyone has, so it's about as definitive as you can get.  It seems nicer this way, anyway.

  15. But doyeon had a some sort of international following along with yoojung and was actually seen as a standout visual for her model looks and proportions, chaewon is nothing but i've been reading k-netz comments and apparently they like her... so whatever

I hope some third party investigates Yuri's votes

Irrelevant this season because no international votes.  So all that matters is what the locals think, and Chaewon had good audience vote results on performances.  2nd in winning LOA team, 1st in ITNW team, 2nd in TRY team.  She didn't have vocally prominent parts for these although she was picked as center twice, presumably not for no reason.

EDIT: as for her visuals https://twitter.com/produce48update/status/1017789657507979264?lang=en

by what margin? a few thousand? lmao

Slightly more than 22k, which is slightly more than Sakura's margin above Jo Yuri, so dunno why you're looking down at that.

  16. Hyewon is about the same. Both incapable even towards the end of the show. Sohye did show improvement towards the end of IOI so there is hope that Hyewon will improve as well. She just needs to the drive to improve and hopefully she has it.

I saw that one perf (Full Moon cover) and Sohye's expressions at least seemed alright.  Maybe just because she suits Full Moon, but there's like no concept where "terror" is a look that works.  Hyewon looks like she's been taken hostage whenever she smiles. XD  Well... her dancing seems ok, she doesn't make the perf look weird when the camera's not zoomed in.

  17. Personally I like being OP because I get to make cute graphics lmao

You may want to request (to mods) that some of the comments below the first get deleted and turned over to you so you can put relevant content there; I don't think just the first post will be enough for 2.5-ish years.

y'all know that i'm the saltiest ignorant member on the pd48 thread.

but I don't think this group deserves to be trashed on. the line up is decent.

I'm expecting them to release some cute bops which I love.

Nah, you made some drama but there were users who were way worse than you and even worse than that they were seemingly entirely sincere. imstupid.png

2.5 years, open contract. No idea about management agency but Han Sung Soo from Pledis is co-producer. They're going to have a reality show in November/December. I'm guessing they might debut at MAMA.

What does open contract mean, non-exclusive?  Do you have a source with official confirmations?

How will they do girl crush concept?

Maybe they can't right away, but who knows about a year from now.  Not sure where your hangup is but I think there's more than one girl who's currently an impediment to that.

Chaewon was always a lurker and at one point just outside of the top 12. She had a lot of love on community sites and was always high in 1 pick polls so I’m not surprised.

I started to get a feeling about her from ITNW.  People (knets) were mostly using it as an opportunity to hate on Yunjin ("if you were going to be selfish for main vocal at least you should excel at it but you couldn't even win first", that sort of thing) but I was like "huh, so it looks like Chaewon has a fandom for some reason."  Like, she didn't have much of a role in the performance compared to Nako/Yunjin, and Nako still had the second-most lines and an ad lib and had already distinguished herself before so was a general and fan favorite, so even with the audience no knowing what had happened bts I kind of expected her to do well in that vote, but Chaewon still managed to take it over both of them (I mean, the differences for the top 3 weren't huge but first is first).

That's a pretty long gap compared to IOI. You'd think they would have prepared for their debut while the show was ongoing.

The japanese contestants have been part-timing the show in a sense, though, so I don't see how they could have.

Hello, I lurked in the PD48 thread all season so I figure I finally make in account to talk to fellow IZONE stans now the group is completerlytearpls.png. Congratz to the girls who made it!. Honestly reading twitter and other forums make my heart sink. Seeing so many people wanting them to flop or bonding over bashing the members makes me so sad and uncomfortable. Even a bit guilty too. The only thing worse than debuting a nugu is debut with an active group of anti's. (It reminds of the ifan hate Twice used to get when the first started to get popular) But despite people pretending they're talentless and charmless I think they have what it takes to win people over when they initial shock dies down. Hopefully people give them a chance .

Sorry to the nice Sakura stans, but I don't understand the Sakura stans I see bashing the group? She may have not gotten the place you want but she's still in the group so you are bashing a group she's a part of?! I don't get it!? You should be trying to protect it from haters warstarplz.png

Semi-related, it's weird to see supposed Sakura supporters bring up the K:J ratio as a reason for her to want to leave the group because of "disrespect" or whatever... I mean, she got announced second and there was one slot left and like the first thing she did was thank Chaeyeon???  So she clearly prioritized specific people over meeting some nationality quota herself.

You probably got negged because you didn't include Miy* ahusdhuah it tended to happen...

    Also "only" 3 Japanese... welp.

some fans might argue 2.5 years contract is too long, but i think its better, i still remember how we couldn't get over IOI final moments cause we didn't sense how fast time was passing by until it was too late,.

i just hope the contract conditions won't be too harsh,.

Supposedly the child labor law should limit Wonyoung to 35 working hours a week for the next year, and then 40 hours/week until she's 18.  Dunno if they'll count practice hours as working hours but music show appearances apparently can eat up a whole day, so maybe Wonyoung (and Yujin) being in the lineup is actually a great thing for their health.  It'll be a shame if they can't capitalize on their hype quite as well due to the limitations but this is still a temporary group and there will be life after it for everyone.

  18. Wait, how the hell do you pronounce this group name

because Japan is spelling it as "eyes-one" (アイズワン)

I thought it would be pronounced "eye-zone" or "is-one"

    It's 3 syllables (for English-speakers' purposes), I As/Is One (sort of).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izone Izone (Koreanì•„ì´ì¦ˆì›Japaneseアイズワン; pronounced "ahiz one")

If a JBJ happens, would any J-trainee be able to join? Like Miyu, Miho or even Miu

It should be up to their ambitions and their agencies, no?

Those who claim the result is rigged should atleast have some sort of receipt, not because "I feel like..."

And srsly, ppl who think Mnet should produce "receipts"... what do you want, the name and number of every account that voted so you can call them all up and check who they voted for? imstupid.png

  19. Relatively close vote totals and two of the other Stone Music trainees eliminated freeing up votes, I imagine.

Maybe it's just me but if I had been a Stone-supporting knet in that last evaluation period, even if I liked all the girls I would still have just gone all-in on the one I liked the most.  Because I would have felt like they didn't have the numbers to get two (or more) in the final lineup, so it's better that only 1 survive to the final, even if it might not be the 1 I actually like the most, because that 1 might then have the best chance to actually make it to the group.  So I really do think the support might have split in the last round and then come back together for the final vote.

Honestly it's impressive to me that both Yujin and Wonyoung got into the final group and that Wonyoung still managed to rank 1st by a decent margin (for this season).  Of course some people here will just say it was rigged. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  I was thinking the outcome might be more like the Woollim trainees, both in the lower half.

  20. The final lineup is more appealing to me than I had expected (since I had like no expectations).  My 2-picks got in.  I didn't have strong feelings towards a lot of other trainees so I tended to fill out my 12-pick with "well I think these are talented, and this one has a nice little story and it would feel good to have her in and she wouldn't drag down the group's level of ability" and honestly the final lineup is filled with girls with a pretty high overall level of ability, minus, well, Hyewon... but thanks to the storyline she made for herself she has more fans than Minjoo who is the upgraded version of her, even on OH, lol.

If I were doing a 12-pick I guess I would still take the opportunity to swap out more than just Hyewon, but of 13-20 the only one I'd actively want in is Miho (which would be enough to fix the unfortunate feeling the ratio gives me), but then the next one I'd want in is, like, Choyeon (and the next girl I'd drop is probably a J-girl, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).  I did miss a few eps that might sell me on some of them, though.  Looks like I should really go back and watch 11, too, seems like it may have changed some things up for some knetz.

A separate thought: considering how the vote distribution remained pretty even even in 1-pick, an IBI/JBJ/whatever-type group probably could do well fandom-wise, because they aren't lagging that much in votes, anyway.  It's not really a knock against the final group.

She has to work a bit on her facial expressions or change her eye lenses. I don't know what's the reason.

I like her dancing and singing but she often looks terrified or scared or something like this. Her eyes look scary.

And that's really uncomfortable to look at. At least for me.

lol, her thing is like a lower-key version of Hyewon's... but Yujin is otherwise objectively more talented than Hyewon in all areas, and even with Hyewon pinpointed from ep1 as a top visual Yujin doesn't exactly lose out.
