It's more prominent than in AKB when she's in senbatsu but not the center though, isn't it? From what I could tell most senbatsu members don't get individual lines, on top of there usually being more than 12. Of course, for AKB you buy to get handshake slots (or voting slips), and in kpop they usually don't do HS events even in Japan, they do fansigns or high-fives. But the majority of non-Japanese fans don't get to go to HS events often anyway so it's not really different after all. And there's a hard limit to how many CDs can be sold thanks to HS slots, since she can only shake hands for so long.

Looking at these measurements... everyone is reasonably clustered within 10cm, and then there's the Nako cliff. XD

I'm not talking about her getting lines due to her popularity, I'm saying that for the near future I doubt there's a producer who would give her less lines than Hyewon. XD (Well, I guess that's just based on ability, especially in performance. If a producer just happened to like the sound of Hyewon's voice in the studio more, I guess it could happen. Producers aren't gonna make them dance while singing to check if they can do it live, after all.) Doesn't really seem to scale... that's not 3cm difference between Wonyoung and... Minjoo? And definitely not 1cm difference between her and Chaeyeon, and definitely not 1cm difference between Chaeyeon and Sakura... and so on.

What, do Sakura fans not buy AKB48 releases where she's in senbatsu but not the center? There's only 12 girls in iz*one and she's practically guaranteed to have more lines than some, how prominent does prominent have to be? Zodiac concept seems bizarre when, you know, these girls have actual birthdates and corresponding signs. Why is Chaeyeon normal. XD Can't be because of the "cute concept," VVV is cute but the song is just much catchier.

Honestly this group seems to have a solid foundation in fans. The girls were all voted in with majority female votes, except for Minju (who was still even) and Hyewon (so maybe she'll lag a bit in fansites to start with). In a normal girlgroup that's a great sign for CFs, since girls can easily sell things to other girls, but we already know (?) they have CFs lined up for this group. They're fine with Twice's J-line and now they will not be marketed as "from AKB", they'll be from Produce48/IZ*one, so.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Eliminated members" of the show are not members of iz*one, though. Unless they're interacting with an iz1 member that should be off topic. People write screeds on this... in non-kpop-exclusive use, "face" = the person "people" think of when you mention the group, so not necessarily the most personally popular one but the one that people associate with the group. Center seems to be someone companies want to say "embodies" the group somehow, but that seems like nonsense to me, since kpop groups usually change concepts a lot and have limited input into their songs/concepts/whatever, so it sees like not a designated thing. So center feels like someone the company actively pushes as opposed to the face just arising (of course the face could become the face because the company pushed them). (It doesn't matter that "center" was determined by a plurality of votes in produce, it's still up to management to follow through.) And in kpop, center seems to get the center spot in beginnings and endings of performances, and maybe in promotional photos and such. As for the "role" of visual... it's a non-role. Obviously appearances are important in kpop, but if the designated center is going to be made the most visibly prominent then there's nothing that distinguishes a designated visual from other members. People have their own tastes and won't magically all agree on what member is the most beautiful anyway, and even if they did they may still prefer looking at other members because of "charisma" or just because they like them on some other level.

2.5 years is the length of the total contract. 1.5 years is the rumored length of the exclusive period where their original companies won't put them in their own groups (interfering with iz1 promos) but which has not been confirmed by any official source. From past seasons we can apparently expect contract details to come out in a week or two.

Some general thoughts about Produce and other competition shows with audience participation.... I really don't care that I don't get to vote. To me, the result is the same as when a company selects a group's lineup without any outside input. Even if I got to vote, that doesn't suddenly give me ownership of the results (even if they happen to align with my preferences). I'd be one voter out of hundreds of thousands (or maybe more). That's all my opinion amounts to. That the cumulative result is whatever it is doesn't change the fact that no one person was responsible for the lineup. I'm an American, but Trump is not my fucking fault, ok? (That said, people should absolutely vote in real elections.) The next point is... the elected center of the group. I like Wonyoung myself, but in general people should realize that 1-pick doesn't say anything about who the (current) fandom collectively thinks should be the center. A plurality is totally different from a majority. Even in season 1, Somi had a commanding lead above Sejeong, but (assuming I added correctly) 858333/4673791=18%. The other 82% of the fandom didn't want Somi to be the center, they presumably all wanted some other girl. They simply accepted the results, because that's the name of the game. Still, depending how it's handled I don't see why it should be a big deal. Yena and Chaeyeon (and Wonyoung?) were centers for performances in the final ep and both spent a decent amount of time not being in the center with other girls getting focused on. I dunno about ioi and w1 but usually in kpop most members get some focus, and the gaps in popularity in iz*one aren't big enough for me to think some girls will get straight up ignored. Related point about voting.... I'm not a fan of the idea of there being a set 6:6 ratio. Effectively that means there would be no direct competition between korean and japanese contestants, and the way I was looking at this show all along was that it's a Produce show where there are some 48G girls who are seeing how they'd fare in this kpop competition environment. So it should be a free for all. But even I feel slightly iffy about the 9:3 result. I think maybe it would have been ok to say that the top 4 korean and top 4 japanese girls were in, regardless of how they do relative to each other, and the 4 girls with the next highest vote totals are in regardless of nationality. That way you can ensure a slightly nicer-feeling ratio but still have competition between the girls. (Although, with that we would have Miho rather than Chaeyeon, and like Sakura I would prefer to have Chaeyeon in the group than another Japanese girl, even if it's Miho. :( )

Lawd, poor thing. Well, presumably she'll be in decent hands for at least the exclusive period and the girls can help take care of each other.

I thought it was pretty much understood that (like Johnnies?) AKS blocks rival girlgroups from getting good promotional outlets in Japan. And kpop groups can't just go on the relevant music shows in Japan right away, they have to work their way up in a roundabout fashion and prove themselves to already be relevant before they're invited. Twice debuted in Japan 1.5 years after their SK debut when they already hugely solidified their status among kpop fans (including Japanese ones). But iz*one doesn't have the time to work their way up organically. But then you think... these are all actually pronounced <whatever>-zu-one. Who is Chaemin, then?

I thought someone here said that 48G were not supposed to accept expensive gifts from fans.... Uh, literally the only thing this group lacks is an acknowledged good rapper, though. They have vocals, dance, variety, visuals on top of visuals... they also have at least one k-actress, though I dunno how she is at that. (And I understand that Sakura (and Nako?) have acted in 48G productions before as well.) Because certain fans deserve the term.

There's no source for that, it seems to be fan speculation. This thread seems about as up-to-date as the people editing that wiki entry are. I know iz*one hasn't even started, but I'm actually neomu neomu neomu interested in the next Starship GG. XD Assuming this is legit, I feel this is a good indication that there's not going to be much rapping in iz*one's songs (unless someone shows some improvement) by default. Maybe bold the A-sides and indicate which ones have PVs? (Or do they all have PVs...?) That can get messy not because of competition and fans being nasty but because some covers might run out sooner than others and they might not order another run of a specific cover, and then fans won't necessarily be able to get the version they wanted. Well, I mean, only #1 has a supposed special privilege so #2-#12 are pretty much the same, but certainly getting into the group alone is enough to celebrate. You can also trade with other fans, I guess. I feel like google translate (or whatever) should actually work decently for korean<=>japanese when the official translators aren't around. The languages have lots of similarities. lol

Seriously, while waiting for the no12 spot announcement I thought LSG must really be able to shut off his sympathy. It just dragged out sooooo long, and even with one girl being really happy at the end of it it's still a huge disappointment for the other three.

Well yeah, it's nothing on season 1. But in this season it the biggest margin anyone has, so it's about as definitive as you can get. It seems nicer this way, anyway.

Irrelevant this season because no international votes. So all that matters is what the locals think, and Chaewon had good audience vote results on performances. 2nd in winning LOA team, 1st in ITNW team, 2nd in TRY team. She didn't have vocally prominent parts for these although she was picked as center twice, presumably not for no reason. EDIT: as for her visuals https://twitter.com/produce48update/status/1017789657507979264?lang=en Slightly more than 22k, which is slightly more than Sakura's margin above Jo Yuri, so dunno why you're looking down at that.

I saw that one perf (Full Moon cover) and Sohye's expressions at least seemed alright. Maybe just because she suits Full Moon, but there's like no concept where "terror" is a look that works. Hyewon looks like she's been taken hostage whenever she smiles. XD Well... her dancing seems ok, she doesn't make the perf look weird when the camera's not zoomed in.

You may want to request (to mods) that some of the comments below the first get deleted and turned over to you so you can put relevant content there; I don't think just the first post will be enough for 2.5-ish years. Nah, you made some drama but there were users who were way worse than you and even worse than that they were seemingly entirely sincere. What does open contract mean, non-exclusive? Do you have a source with official confirmations? Maybe they can't right away, but who knows about a year from now. Not sure where your hangup is but I think there's more than one girl who's currently an impediment to that. I started to get a feeling about her from ITNW. People (knets) were mostly using it as an opportunity to hate on Yunjin ("if you were going to be selfish for main vocal at least you should excel at it but you couldn't even win first", that sort of thing) but I was like "huh, so it looks like Chaewon has a fandom for some reason." Like, she didn't have much of a role in the performance compared to Nako/Yunjin, and Nako still had the second-most lines and an ad lib and had already distinguished herself before so was a general and fan favorite, so even with the audience no knowing what had happened bts I kind of expected her to do well in that vote, but Chaewon still managed to take it over both of them (I mean, the differences for the top 3 weren't huge but first is first). The japanese contestants have been part-timing the show in a sense, though, so I don't see how they could have. Supposedly the child labor law should limit Wonyoung to 35 working hours a week for the next year, and then 40 hours/week until she's 18. Dunno if they'll count practice hours as working hours but music show appearances apparently can eat up a whole day, so maybe Wonyoung (and Yujin) being in the lineup is actually a great thing for their health. It'll be a shame if they can't capitalize on their hype quite as well due to the limitations but this is still a temporary group and there will be life after it for everyone.

It's 3 syllables (for English-speakers' purposes), I As/Is One (sort of). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izone Izone (Korean: ì•„ì´ì¦ˆì›; Japanese: アイズワン; pronounced "ahiz one") It should be up to their ambitions and their agencies, no? And srsly, ppl who think Mnet should produce "receipts"... what do you want, the name and number of every account that voted so you can call them all up and check who they voted for?

Maybe it's just me but if I had been a Stone-supporting knet in that last evaluation period, even if I liked all the girls I would still have just gone all-in on the one I liked the most. Because I would have felt like they didn't have the numbers to get two (or more) in the final lineup, so it's better that only 1 survive to the final, even if it might not be the 1 I actually like the most, because that 1 might then have the best chance to actually make it to the group. So I really do think the support might have split in the last round and then come back together for the final vote. Honestly it's impressive to me that both Yujin and Wonyoung got into the final group and that Wonyoung still managed to rank 1st by a decent margin (for this season). Of course some people here will just say it was rigged. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I was thinking the outcome might be more like the Woollim trainees, both in the lower half.

The final lineup is more appealing to me than I had expected (since I had like no expectations). My 2-picks got in. I didn't have strong feelings towards a lot of other trainees so I tended to fill out my 12-pick with "well I think these are talented, and this one has a nice little story and it would feel good to have her in and she wouldn't drag down the group's level of ability" and honestly the final lineup is filled with girls with a pretty high overall level of ability, minus, well, Hyewon... but thanks to the storyline she made for herself she has more fans than Minjoo who is the upgraded version of her, even on OH, lol. If I were doing a 12-pick I guess I would still take the opportunity to swap out more than just Hyewon, but of 13-20 the only one I'd actively want in is Miho (which would be enough to fix the unfortunate feeling the ratio gives me), but then the next one I'd want in is, like, Choyeon (and the next girl I'd drop is probably a J-girl, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). I did miss a few eps that might sell me on some of them, though. Looks like I should really go back and watch 11, too, seems like it may have changed some things up for some knetz. A separate thought: considering how the vote distribution remained pretty even even in 1-pick, an IBI/JBJ/whatever-type group probably could do well fandom-wise, because they aren't lagging that much in votes, anyway. It's not really a knock against the final group. lol, her thing is like a lower-key version of Hyewon's... but Yujin is otherwise objectively more talented than Hyewon in all areas, and even with Hyewon pinpointed from ep1 as a top visual Yujin doesn't exactly lose out.
