All P48 Japanese contestants AKB Election rank 2018. This pretty much shows their popularity in Japan, since fans voted
It's not their popularity in Japan, though, this is the global 48G fanbase (who are willing and able to spend money to vote in elections, of course).
They're saying ai-zu(ju)-won in the beginning. They're just not fully synchronized so you misheard them collectively.
-
I was thinking that it'd be really cool if the girls were given the chance to sing for the opening of an anime while promoting in Japan

48G don't seem to do that too often (or at all?) so I wonder how likely it would be.
-
I agree. I was just thinking about what Yuri said herself. And odds are they will do cutesy unless they surprise us.
There are degrees to cutesy... like, VVV is not too cute for her. Gee or Oh (as delivered) feel like they might be a bit over the edge, though.
-
Honestly, I hope she shes main vocal, they could have multiple so she doesn't always have the most lines or whatever. I'm just worried that because of something Yuri's said herself that her "vocal color doesn't fit girl groups" by some people standards. I hope they don't shift aside her ability. (I personally love her vocal colour)
Eh, I think her voice fits many girlgroup concepts. It's probably not ideal for something really cutesy, but aside from that....

Whole idea is convoluted and pointless.
Every time I have to put that stupid asterisk in there I get more angry. It’s unnatural and makes me think I’m f*cking swearing at something. An asterisk is used to attached a footnote or as a censoring technique for f*ing explicitives.
So having asterisk in IZ*ONE still gives you no clue to how to pronounce it.
So just write it as IZ1.

https://www.koreaboo.com/news/produce-48-contestant-accidentally-reveals-much-makes/
This is hilarious. Has anyone posted this?
She then stated in a small voice, “So all I have to do to get 16,000 yen ($144) is stream a video like that.â€
Moreover, a woman in the background who is presumably her mother added, “If you do 10 in a month, it’s the same as your monthly salary.†Murakawa seemed pleasantly surprised by this idea and mentioned that it was like a bonus.
Based on the information that was revealed, the HKT48 member’s monthly earnings would add up to approximately 160,000 yen ($1440).
As an English teacher here in Japan. I actually earn more. But I guess they have talent fees for TV show guestings, commission, CF deals and so on which would add to their monthly basics.
Vivian isn't that popular, is she? so this seems pretty good. Remember there are tons of kpop idols that literally make no money.
Even with her usual bangs, I thinks she looks prettier than usual with her hair pulled back.

Hey Leip.... been awhile... welcome to IZ*ONE.... or have you been browsing other threads... I started watching the first episode soon after PD101 S1 but it became apparent I had been spoilt by MNet and their evil stories and cuts... Loved the final group of MixNine girls and Unit-T.... didn't like the hybrid girls/boys set up and nor did I like the YG promotional messiah style of MixNine... I was there basically for Lee Soomin... Sad that she and Park Soyeon are now in limbo somewhere... unless they're training with another agency for a block buster debut with another group....
But IZ*ONE is going to be great... I suspect that we'll get all the saltiness that comes when they debut.... concept isn't right, girls are over-worked, agency isn't doing things properly, song is plain S**T... Anyhow, my first goal for them.... win more shows than IOI... get lots of CF endorsements in both K and J, get on a lot of variety shows... need I go on... lol
I've been in the PD48 thread since slightly before the start of the show and here since slightly after the end! OH is kind of tricky now that we're in permanent light mode with search and tags not working... I've caught up on b.a.p's artist thread which was easy because it's been slow but otherwise I haven't really been browsing for random threads, just when something I hear about from somewhere else really piques my interest and I get the urge to check what the feeling is on OH. XD (Which pretty much how I wound up tuning into PD48....)
I was a little disappointed by the format of PD48, it seems like it's not much different than the other produce seasons but the tweaks I'd want seem impossible with the J-girls having concurrent obligations in Japan. (I'd want more challenges with more even exposure and background time for everyone, basically. In Sixteen there were some challenges before any eliminations took place, whereas the only freebie they got here was the initial evaluation.) I dunno if MixNine/Idol School are a bit different--well, IS I heard has nearly the same format. I'm a little interested in IS even though I haven't listened to anything from fromis_9 yet.
IZ1 at least has more time to win more shows than IOI. XD IOI had a slightly slow start with Dream Girls, I guess. But I feel like, given the prior success of IOI and WannaOne, producers should actually be more eager to work with IZ1 than they were to work with IOI initially, so maybe they'll have a wider pool of good songs to choose from (if they don't restrict the title track to some Pledis producer or whatever). With IOI it seems like the highest-profile producer they got for the first EP was Duble Sidekick (and that wasn't the title track, so I feel like that means they didn't specifically write the song for them or they didn't put as much effort into it as they would a title track) and the last EP was of course JYP but Somi was in IOI so why not.
-
how does one do that? some google translation is at least better then watching and having nothing to read and the words simply going over one's head.... save for words like 'Produce 48' or the names of the more recognisable girls...
clicking 'cc' usually generates localised stuff...
You go to the wheel-thing (settings), subs, auto-translate, then select the language you want.
-
I don't think it's quite that bad for IZ*ONE unless Aki has zero say in things.... I would not be surprised that IZ*ONE pulls some amazing numbers somewhere down the road...
And the funny thing I would say is that at this point in time, likely the most successful PD101 S1 trainee is the girl that didn't make the final line-up... and whose group will be also likely be front runners for Rookie Group of the year... Jeon Soyeon... but that's an opinion...
So it can be done, all it just needs is good music, visuals with each attracting a different niche...
Shouldn't the most successful girl be Chungha? And she's doing it on her own... I thought part of the reason (g)i-dle is doing well was that people didn't think Soyeon overshadowed the other members of the group when they debuted, so the group as a whole is doing well.
Personally, I think I prefer Soyeon as a composer... I liked Hann a lot but thought it would be better without rapping, and it's not like she's bad at it. XD;

eng sub are extremely rare ;.;
Since PD48 started I think there have been a lot of intrepid translators who aren't used to having their stuff yoinked for copyright infractions who are putting up pure 48G stuff labeled as "Produce48" because there were PD48 contestants in there. I kept getting their videos recommended to me on youtube. Maybe they'll persist.
lol... that's not desperation... desperation is watching Sixteen.... which I was very close to starting a few days ago...
I started out watching Sixteen, but then at one point it seemed like the most consistent translator was putting the actual show off in a quarter of the screen so the video wouldn't be exactly the same as the broadcast and it wouldn't get taken down from youtube or something, so that was a turnoff.... I don't know if it got better subs later, though I'd hope so. Maybe I'll rewatch it some time. Especially if other ppl are interested in doing a synchronized watch? I get through shows better with moral support. XD
Umm I don't think WJSN is flopping tho .. I know their popularity is not like I.O.I popularity but they do have good physical album and digital sales ..
You can always rev up album sales of not-completely-unpopular groups with fansigns, though... boygroups more so than girlgroups, but it can still help girlgroups. Did WJSN have a lot of fansigns? Or possibly China is responsible for a lot of sales. Sales are sales but success in China isn't success in SK....
What are you going on about? The lots of antis of this group you speak of a majority fans of other girls who didn't make the cut. The general public hardly cares about that, if anything the general public would be satisfied with the line up of mostly Koreans + visuals. All they need is good songs and they would sell off.
Furthermore since when do lots of antis stop any group? Majority of the popular groups such as BTS, EXO, Twice, BlackPink have tons of antis, that never stopped them from being successful.
One thing that I think kind of helps in this group is most of the girls, in spite of some predebut activities, are young and don't have much of a record. I think it's harder for antis to make up rumors and stuff that way. (Also they're girls and aside from that one girl in Lovelyz girls don't usually get accused of being rapists.) At worst they can say Yuri is shady and, I guess, Sakura has done gravure (and the J-girls in general "are rightwingers"), but I dunno that that's gonna stick.
EDIT: lots of antis can stop a group if they come up with a scandal that tars the group in the eyes of the general public. Bullying, rape, certain political views, drugs, underage smoking/drinking. Antis stopped T-ara. Of course they fucked up by making snarky comments on social media beforehand (both because it's genuinely not a good look and because it was handing their haters material) but haters latched on to it and through their usual antics (editing video clips and lying about the contents) successfully turned everyone off of them.

Well, zodiac and astrology thing is dumb for starter... (here comes the negs, but one must say the truth lol)
Sure, but as a concept it's understandable that it's kind of compelling. But it doesn't make any sense to make up zodiacs or whatever when it's supposedly based on some actual attribute that they have and you have to make things up so they can fit. If you do a zodiac concept it should just be something like... releasing an album with tracks that each correspond to some sign. The title track is the one that corresponds to the time you actually promote it and the followup is the next sign that corresponds to when you promote that.
-
i doubt that they have one for each zodiac. at least wonyoung and yujin are virgo, both are one day apart
This is why zodiac concepts seem dumb to me... these girls have actual birthdates and corresponding signs, so why would you randomly assign them to a zodiac?
How many people are still pronouncing it as Eye-Zone in spite of all that? Overly complicated and not clear at all in concept or even phonic. The name should be clear and spoken by everyone. Can’t have some people saying it this way and other people that way.
A disaster in name and branding compared to IOI and Wanna1.
Well, that's why the * is where it is, if people just use it. I've been abbreviating as IZ1 to remind myself, though.
IOI had the same abbreviation as AOA, but it didn't seem to actually matter, I guess?
Agree. Eye-Zone is directly translated in Japanese which doesn't make sense lol their name will be hard for new fans. goodluck
IOI and WANNAONE name was suggested by the same person. I wonder how that person thinks of IZ*ZONE name lol
What do you mean directly translated? It's アイズワン which is ai-zu-won which is the corresponding pronunciation to the korean, so how does that not make sense?
Also, you wrote it wrong.
(It starts like IOI and ends/rhymes with Wanna1... it fits in, I guess.)
EDIT: alternatively, it could scan as a-(i-zu)-won, which sounds more like how I thought LSG pronounced it in ep12, but eh. Sooner or later we'll get the "hello, we're iz*one"-type intro from the girls and then that will stand as word of god, I guess.

Do you all prefer Yena with her hair down or Yena with her hair in a ponytail?
Hair down, even though she's less distinctive this way. High ponytail gives everyone an instant facelift she doesn't need. It skews her expressions.

"It was also noted that Taiwanese news media, ETtoday, had also covered Jang WonYoung as Taiwanese in one of their reports. They reported that Jang WonYoung’s father is Taiwanese and her mother is Korean."
Yeah? None of that is new information. The situation isn't changed. The question was never whether she had a Korean passport, it was always assumed that she is at least half Korean. But even if she had a Taiwanese passport as well there's no real reason for her to use it.
-
Sakura would prob. not act in dramas in South Korea. But I don't think she would have any problem in being part of many variety shows like Cheng Xiao. Sakura could do even better.
About after IZ*ONE I think it would depend on the group's success. If the group does very well I am sure many doors will open to her in Korea and it is that what she wants in my opinion. She won't leave Japan or forget her fans there. But to someone as Sakura her career is very limited in Japan after she graduates.
Does Kara's Jiyoung have a better career than most top 48G alums? She's certainly getting very regular film and drama work at least, but I dunno what former 48G acting careers look like. Someone implied that it was actually much better, so it's interesting what being from a top kpop group (in Japan) can do for your Japanese career as opposed to being a top 48G member.
I feel like dramas would take up way too much time in the course of iz*one's career, though, if we are assuming that regular music releases and touring are in the plans. The time away from the group isn't worthwhile for the group/management if all the other girls aren't similarly tied up.

wonyoung is also a taiwanse??

That has been a rumor since before the show, but I don't see how they'd get a closeup picture of her holding her passports from that angle.
EDIT: OIC, that photo is for viewers to compare. Anyway. She can probably have dual citizenship with Taiwan (especially as a minor) so it's not like she needs to carry all her passports around, so it doesn't really prove anything except that she's also korean, which was never in dispute.
what would you guys like better:
• a system like EXO (same song, jpn/krn version)
• independent releases
?
For the sake of the girls' health, the first option. In SK you typically release the album and start promoting right away, while in Japan it seems you drop the music video and then don't release the album (or promote on shows) for maybe a month, but I guess 48G might typically do that differently. But I always felt like for the kpop groups promoting in Japan, it was odd that they didn't all release the album in SK (and release both jpn and krn music videos on youtube), promote for about a month, and then go to Japan and promote there. If there's any concern about a certain title track not being to one market's taste I suppose you could still choose different lead singles to promote. It would be a litbut since they should be having japanese concerts they're going to have
-
Not according to the South Korea's romanization standards though.
Eh, ppl can choose how they want to write their own names, I guess. Especially stage names (but even not). Like, wtf is Hyolyn, but ok, whatever she wants, right?
-
Think they should have gone with IZ1subs instead... I feel like this leads to assuming the group is i-zone....
-
Can barely see anything XD but YooA's pronunciation is quite good....
I can see Irene x Eunbi similarities. Sometimes her face looks 100% identical.
There is one thing i don't like about it. Haters of Irene started using Eunbi. They call her "Irene who can sing and dance" or "Irene with actual skills". In response Irene "fans" fatshaming Eunbi etc. Humanity is hopeless... It's not that common for now and i hope it will not cause problems.
Hmph... I didn't think it was at all controversial that Irene could dance, though....
Have you ever thought that maybe mnet reserved seats for all top 20 ktrainees and maybe the person spreading the rumor "forgot" about it?
And if they wanted to rig the voting wouldn't it be easier than evil and angel editing the trainees?
Also... how do they know this isn't referring to when the k-trainees in the top 20 went to Japan for the guerrilla concert?
-
Very dissapointed that We Made It video wasn't set to Drake's remix of Souljaboy's "We Made It", someone needs to get on that now.
What if it were set to HwaSa and Bigman's Subway jingle... the PTSD....

12 girls, huh... they can do laundry every day. orz
You know what, extensions are truly an amazing invention.
She looks weirdly unrecognizable here, I'm just assuming from the dress that this is Yujin. XD
Both. It's 민주 in Korean and ㅜ could be romanised either 'oo' or 'u'. So romanisation-wise it's the same.
Well, the show did use Minju, and they were using a romanization system that avoided diacritics and apostrophes, but I'm not sure they were actually using https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revised_Romanization_of_Korean(I don't know hangul or korean romanization, but it seems like if they were using that then Haeyoon 해윤 should have been Haeyun?)
-
me too but I think they will debut with something more cheerful like I.O.I's VeryVeryVery or something TWICE-sque
I think they should do something upbeat and catchy like VVV. They can co-promote a slightly more mature B-side (maybe not all the shows will let them do a second song but they can on MCD, at least).
The debut is late because they need need to shoot many things lik CF's, variety shows and dorm life.
Since the show wasn't as popular as previous seasons putting in some additional predebut work like this should be helpful.

Yes they will be in a dorm and yes I think Jline will live there. They won't book them an hotel for 2.5 years...
Even if it's odd for them, they'll have to get used to it. A dorm isn't really weird, it's like being in a boarding school or flatsharing
They've also been living in a dorm for when they've been shooting PD48... given how busy they're probably going to be between practice and preparations and other schedules it might not even be too different. (I didn't watch ioi's reality show, though.)
