Ooh, so they're not being managed by Pledis, nice! (Not that that seemed likely to me... IOI and W1 were not managed by companies that had members in there... well, not that IZ1 has Pledis members.) People say fromis_9 have been managed pretty well, at least.

There's a good variety of recognizable names in the comment stream which is nice to see.
14,578,673 hearts, watched by 97,667 people during live broadcast<--didn't realize you could heart a million times.

Wonder if they filmed a CF because they are all wearing golfing/athletic gear
I was wondering if it was cold where they were... to keep the candy-stuff cool? I liked Yena's top.
lol, Chaeyeon gave Yujin the lips with I Am on it, the group she got booted from. No hard feelings~

ism't that something like customized sushi??

I don't think so... it seems to have the consistency of playdough. I'm not seeing rice. Its definitely edible, at least....
I think it's maybe marzipan or something like that?
-
There will be Chinese licensed and rip-off versions too. ...
Doesn't matter. The point is casual listeners still buy physical copies of any group they like the song in the quantity big enough to chart.
Also, idols tend to use several gimmicks to bloat the sale, multiple versions, handshake/hi-five ticket etc.
You have been out of loop for so long that you even forget Korea has 2 physical charts, HANTEO and GAON. HANTEO counts the sale reported from retailers which are its members and not every retailers are HANTEO's members. GAON counts the sale reported from distributors. I'm not sure about HANTEO but very confident that exporting sale isn't counted by GAON.
I don't think J fans are as obsessive over Oricon chart, I don't think they bulk buying for Oricon chart sake, mostly for the ticket.
You also forget that guys tend to sell better than girls, Boys tend to sell 3x times better than girls. Twice, the queen of K-pop, can sell like 300k per album while BTS and EXO can sell 1m. And, sales of those guys must have been pumped up with several fansigns but, you said Sakura could sell 10k in Korea without any gimmick, without fansign. Sakura may sell over 10k but only if she holds many fansigns.
Still, I don't agree IZOne will sell ~50k, it should sell 100k, close to I.O.I level.
Uh, it absolutely matters. These people buying albums are not casual listeners in the first place. That's why the sales overall are so low after the top few spots, which are almost all dominated by idols (exceptions are some older, legendary acts).
I did not forget any of these points. And as far as music shows (and thus wins) goes, only Inkigayo counted Gaon so people didn't care as much. I considered that what you meant with momoland was that a domestic stores sold copies to an international b&m to ensure copies would be counted on both charts. The online stores i-fans tend to buy from are still counted on Gaon.
I'm not so certain about Sakura in particular. I think she should do well if her fans are equally willing to support a solo music release vs a photobook. But of course the appeal is different, so who knows. (Was the photobook gravure, btw....)
-
Chaeyeon made a sakura... thing.

All the notes seem to be English and Korean... I assume other languages are allowed so--oh, just saw some Japanese. But it seems like not too many J-fans are watching these yet.
-
What are they making...? Candy?
That's not my main point actually. I'm just worried about their popularity I guess
Their popularity won't be affected. Do you see the margins between the votes? Every girl is voted in by a minority of overall votes anyway.
-
Tonari no banana, I guess

Oh, so that's how they manage center in an even-numbered group... two rows, offset, center winds up in the middle. Hey, it's not too bad being short, Nako, you'll always be in the front row for this sort of thing! ... I feel like they have her on a box though, her knees and waistline are above Sakura next to her. Eunbi actually seems kind of short here.
-
Not really, you can often see non-idol artists in Oricon weekly chart top ten.
If I understand correctly, exported copies don't counted on Korean charts. (Thus, Momoland's agency did sale manipulation by getting its Japanese partner bought Momoland's CD from a store in Korea to re-sell in Japan.) Unless those oversea fans buy over the counter from stores in Korea, those numbers aren't counted.
Because its lottery type, there is no guarantee you will get in after buying 70 copies. So, you may just buy as many as you want and pray. For a less popular group, the competition is lower thus, fans don't have to buy many copies. For a popular group, it may run a different type of fansign, endorsement fansign, in which fans have to buy the product the idol endorses to attend the event, not the album. You may like this type of fansign better.
Yeah, but the #1 will be 100s or 10s of thousands of copies, and #10 will be lucky to be 10k for the week (unless it's like an older act, probably).
Assuming nothing has changed since the last time I bought kpop albums, it isn't exactly about whether the store is physically located in SK or not but whether they report sales to Hanteo. There are lots of online stores that international fans buy from that report to Hanteo. But in Japan j-fans are buying from b&m stores which don't necessarily report to Hanteo, which is why that resale tactic is necessary (a weakness of Hanteo from before and maybe still now is that if a store that reports sales to Hanteo sells albums to another store that also reports sales to Hanteo, the albums will be double-counted. Also, returns are not reported.)
In contrast, Japan's Oricon does not count sales of albums shipped to an international address (and does not count bulk orders past 20 copies or something like that). So if you are an i-fan who wants your purchase to be reflected in the charts you have to go to the extra expense of getting it purchased through a service that makes the purchase for you and receives the goods domestically and then sends it to you.
Just for comparison: sewoon rank 13 s2 with 769k votes, his first album sold 40k. samuel has the biggest chinese supporter last year, rank 18 with 390k votes, his first album sold 30k. So its possible that sakura can sell 30k albums in Korea (i dont know about japan). But it doesnt mean izone sales gonna be 30k x 12, korean girls dont have big fanbase, each of them can sell few thousands each. ioi 1st album sold 80k. So it depends on their debut song, izone debut album go anywhere from 50k to 100k (again i dont know about japan)
Well yeah, my consideration was that Sakura has had proven sales before and a big Chinese fanbase (whereas I guess Samuel's fanbase has never proved themselves before... though I assume they bought ads and stuff before). But it's also true that fans don't always support everything. Sakura has to be reasonably popular everywhere, but if she graduated right now from 48G she wouldn't necessarily do that well, like lots of other graduated legendary members.
I am hoping IZ1 manages at least 50k, but I get the feeling IOI had fansigns, so if those are effective at inflating sales then I guess IZ1 can just do about the same. Hoping for 4-6 tracks on the debut release so there's a bit of a variety but not too much waste (since casual listeners just about never hear the B-sides....)
-
I don't think you used good analogy. Because 50,000 persons bought Sakura's photobooks doesn't necessarily mean 50,000 persons would like to buy Sakura's music album for the tiny photobook enclosed. Popularity is fickle and you can't use the datum from "years ago" to gauge the present.
Again, most of those 50,000 copies of her photobook must be sold to Japanese customers thus, you argued with Japanese market stats when I discussed about Korean one. Sakura surely can sell more than 10,000 copies of her album in Japan where physical sale still is dominant income of music industry and the population is over 100 millions. But, in Korea? Nah.
That's the very idea fansign is design with, to encourage DD and discourage tan-oshi culture. Actually, almost all fans run out of the topic to say to the idol within 30 seconds, so, they don't really want more than 40 seconds per 1 events. The atmosphere and regulation in fansign also is more relaxed and friendly. In fansign, you'll be 1 out of 100 fans Sakura chats with in that day whereas, in handshake, you'll be 1 out of 2,000 fans Sakura chats with. The time with Sakura in a fansign definitely has much higher quality than that in a handshake.
Since it's lottery type, there are fans who win fansign tickets buying less than 20 copies too. I doubt attending multiple fansigns is really difficult as there are quite a number of fans doing so.
Physical sales in both japan and korea are a matter of fandom for idols. J-fans also buy k-releases (at least the j-kpop fans do, the rich ones are regulars at fansigns) so I don't see that they wouldn't buy a solo album from her even if it's in Japanese. Like, the appeal of a photobook is different from a musical release (with a small photobook) but fans are fans, no? She's gotten more popular since years ago, and we're not talking theoretically releasing a music solo years in the future, I mean like around now while she's still hot. C-fans also buy k-releases and she has lots of those, supposedly, and they have demonstrably spent money on her for things that just promote her rather than gaining them anything in particular (billboard advertisements) so why wouldn't they buy a CD for themselves?
That's an interesting point about the relative duration. Due to the smaller size of fansigns it's also less hectic than the giant halls they have to rent for handshakes... certainly as a non-akgae I would prefer to go to a fansign, I just wouldn't want to buy a bunch of copies to get into either (would rather just pay however much to get in for sure, but that won't help them chart....)
Because it's lottery type, you have to buy everything and they only announce the winners at the end of the purchase period, so if you risk it on a smaller amount of copies you may not get in and you'll still have a pile of copies you don't want or need. I mean, it happens either way. But you can know from the number of slots and the number copies sold that day how many you'll need for a good chance to get in, so you aren't helping yourself buy buying less than needed for that particular artist.
-
Everyone's photo is great! (So I guess badges for the girls that don't have them yet will be soon....)
Hyeyon doesn't look scared here, but considering that all the other girls are smiling... lol
-
I guess the person based on Korean market only (GAON number) and, 10k is very impressive for a soloist in this domestic scope.
If wota has no other choice, he will buy lottery ticket. The price of fansign ticket and handshake ticket is not that different if you take number and duration into account. With 1 ticket, you can shake hand with 1 AKB idol for 8 seconds, right? So, to shake hand with 12 AKB girls for 40 seconds each, you must buy 60 tickets. But, you can chat with all 12 IZOne's members for 40 seconds each with 1 fansign ticket.
I feel like that person said 10k to disparage Sakura's selling power... someone said she sold 50k of her photobook years ago, I don't know if that was the entire print run and she could have sold more or not. If it were actually a Sakura solo and the CD came with its own little photobook as is typical in my kpop experience (but ppl say even kpop is getting stingy with packaging these days, much like japanese albums have been?) then (without fansigns/handshakes/whatever) I'd say 50k (or whatever she could sell now in photobooks) is a minimum, but in a group effort like IZ1 when (even if she were the center) it's not all going to be about her, I think the sales she would bring in would be less than compared to an actual solo.
The fansign is a better deal for the all-fan, generally, but for the akgae it isn't... and you can only increase your time with the girl(s) by going to multiple events so it's a bit more difficult. AND again, it's a lottery system, so there's no guarantee you'll actually get in for all the money you put out. Like, this poor fan: https://www.allkpop.com/article/2018/03/fan-expresses-frustration-after-spending-4000-to-attend-wanna-ones-fansign-still-doesnt-get-a-spot (it's not going to be as hard/expensive compared to W1, at least....)
-
It's not too relevant imo but to be fair it's actually low(lowlowlowlow)key related to hitomi too... she was ranked #82 so she's on one of the B-sides. XD
-
yes, itdefinitely looks like an AKB outfit, but i was confused by the tags, I thought Hitomi had tagged the video herself
I went to check her instagram story and there aren't any tags (I think you can add tags as a sort of link in the story itself but the only text is the "filming" in the middle), so yeah, seems like the translator probably became a fan through PD48 and is only going to tag as IZ1. (As an aside, of the 3 J-girls Hitomi is the only one who puts AKB48 and Team8 on her instagram, the others just have their names and the tags to be used for them in romaji and kanji, but she hasn't added IZ1 yet. Maybe she will or maybe she won't, but it doesn't feel like IZ1 has even properly started, anyway.)
-
Is this I*ZONE related or AKB related?
Well... it definitely looks more like some 48G-type outfit... I think the tags added by the fantranslator are not illuminating.

Thanks for the summary lol
I just didn't bother.
I did watch ep12 live so I knew people's reactions to the lineup announcement, but it was of course an "interesting" look at some people hopes for (or delusions about) the results. Some people seemed to get a lot of what they wanted, but some people... welp. People who did whole top 12s tended to come away with 7/8 in (not necessarily their faves), but considering 12/20 were destined to be in that's not too surprising, I guess.
In a way, I found it interesting that after Sakura people were pretty confident on Wonyoung as a definite debut, which of course wound up being correct. I kind of wonder why it still felt like a consensus when she was only #1 for the second 12-pick, didn't have an amazing result in 2-pick (lower than Gaeun), never won any challenges out of her team (always #2 to Miru!), and it seemed like i-fans as a whole spent more time complaining about her age than looking up/acknowledging news about her or what knetz had to say. She was also the one I was most sure would debut after Sakura, but at times it felt like this was almost entirely based on her one VVV performance. (I also thought Yujin not getting eliminated would wind up hurting her, but nope!)
EDIT: the actual summary is like, reactions to the top 20, reactions to the songs, and then in regards to position selection did Miyu fuck up wrt Haeyoon, did Haeyoon fuck up wrt Miyu, did Eunji fuck up wrt Chowon, did Hyewon fuck up wrt Chowon, is all of Yuri's evil plans coming together now, here's my top 12, you have excellent taste!, some people here sure have shit taste and are just haters anyway, who is a lock for debut, you are horribly uninformed if you think X is not a lock for debut, look at all these excellent bribes people have raised money for, is anyone else going to get a food truck, S2 had the shittiest food truck, is the line distro going to be garbage in the debut group given that subvocal9 in one of these songs has 3 syllables to sing, how central is center actually going to be, blahblahblah IOI, blahblahblah Wanna1, blahblahblah Twice

the thing is a lot of people equate Girl Crush with a sexy/badass image. its awkward to describe a 14 year old girl with sexy.
personally i think girl crush is about a confident women or a concept empowering women.
The informed viewer is aware of Wonyoung's age, but not everyone will know just by looking at her. And really, the goal is to pull in people who have no predisposition to liking IZ1 already, so... but Hitomi just looks like an adorable munchkin whether you know her age or not (2.5 years older than Wonyoung, but....) Anyhow, I agree with your POV. I think Wonyoung essentially pulled off STS, it's just intensely uncomfortable for the viewer who understands the words she's singing in her own voice and that she wasn't even 14 at the time. If the lyrics weren't overtly sexual her performance should have gotten a much better reception with i-fans (since the choreography itself was not that sexy... like, they weren't grabbing their crotches or even twerking, and given Rumor it seems that twerking is fair game for non-sexual choreo.)
Like, Bad Girl Good Girl is girlcrush, and I see no real reason why Wonyoung wouldn't do well with that (especially if her voice matured a little more), but Hitomi still feels too cute for it. (Actually, wouldn't Little Mix - Wings be a girlcrush-type song....)
EDIT: seeing your edit, see, we agree!

I've thought this for a while, but I really think the biggest impediment to a girlcrush concept is not giant baby Wonyoung but the human mochi Hitomi... unless she has an awakening a la Joy in the Coming of Age Ceremony cover when she turns 18? XD

Whoever wrote those signs has kind of bad handwriting, I think. ^^;;;
-
That be nice if so :>
Haeun having to stay back though... she's 14, which is the same age (or year at least) as Wonyoung, who is possibly about to debut with the P48 group :x Kind of makes me wonder why they sent her in the first place if they're not going to debut her right away.
It makes sense to send her if they feel she's too young for their own group... if she managed to get in it's an incredibly good pre-debut activity that will keep her occupied for 2.5 years and the limitations on her working hours as a minor are officially Someone Else's Problem.
FINALLY THE SPORTS COMPETITION!!!
Wow, the giant baby is pretty STRONK. It would be nice if they put the full results at the end of the vid or something even if the whole thing is silly.
I don’t get why you think that Sakura will help with album sales, she doesn’t have that big fandom like boy group. She will sell 10k in solo max
10k is an underestimation... but I really do wonder. There is bulkbuying going on in both kpop and 48G, and people actually don't bulk-buy for nothing. Either it's for a lottery for some event (fansigns, usually, in SK), or a guaranteed ticket(s) for an event (handshakes, high-fives, two-shots, whatever, mostly in Japan), or voting slips to vote your fave to greater heights (election).
48G wotas don't really do lotteries from what I can tell, if they are buying for fansign tickets they actually get what they bought. It's a much better value. I don't know if Sakura/Nako/Hitomi's wotas are going to want to buy 10s of copies for a possibility of going to a fansign where you don't get to spend much one-on-one time with your oshi. Obviously only some fans have the money/free time to do that in the first place, and they're accustomed to going to whatever location in Japan rather than SK, even if it's a relatively short trip.
We don't know if they're going to do handshakes for Japan, but it's probably not too unlikely. The limitation, as always, is that any one girl can only shake hands with fans for so long, consequently she can only boost sales so much through that gimmick.
I don't think they're going to do their own election. The center was chosen through the show. The group is only for 2.5 years. I don't see them messing with that. So there's no incentive to buy simply to make Sakura look good to management, because there's no formal mechanism for it, and no real reward for it.
One thing to consider is that HKT sales are--well, they're not low, but given that Queen Sasshi is there and there are other members HKT fans managed to get into the election selection Sakura can't possibly be primarily responsible for quite a lot of the sales. Of course, people say she doesn't get to center in HKT much, so maybe if she were it would be different. But I still think any member of IZ1 is going to have it better than the average member of a 48G senbatsu who isn't the center. (I wonder what HKT sales are on Billboard, since she supposedly has a big Chinese fandom and a lot of their purchases would presumably not show up on Oricon without an extra effort.)
Guys in case miyu debuts (hopefully) do you think mnet is going to make her or offer her PS for her nose?
I know that mnet don't like her or better they don't like her visuals
I think contouring should do magic, and there's some technically non-surgical options. So I feel like the recommendation would be more to get her teeth aligned. There isn't really a stigma against getting invisalign or whatever, I think it's cheaper in SK than Japan, and even some Japanese idols fix their teeth (Tomomi Itano?)

Here's some bonus classic gravure Miru if u guys are still not convinced of her talent.
This bathroom looks dirty

Some AKB girls debuted wayyyy ealier than any of these groups.
How should they bow to each other?
To be safe, everyone should just bow by default. Super-sunbaenim like GD are praised for always bowing 90 degrees or whatever even to rookies in spite of his other controversies. (Actually, YG idols are often considered messy troublemakers but have been trained to always bow to everyone which helps their image.)
So this is apparently the contestant on the ranking instiz posted , take with a grain of salt
Edit : Also if first place is real ,this is me to everyone here right now :

p.s : the list come from the guy who got all ranking right last time
Well, this got deleted before I saw it. Seems like Hyewon topped the list? Do you remember anything else that was interesting about it?

I went back and read the 300+ posts I missed from the livestream of ep11 until the livestream for ep12, because lol. Of course most topics of conversation are obsolete, but hey.
Greatest hits include that one rabid Sakura stan who seems to see any vote for Yuri as an attack on Sakura, any vote for Wonyoung as solely motivated by the desire to screw Sakura out of center, and the greatest qualification for membership in the group that will be solely funded by Sakura's fanbase to be friendship with and proximity to Sakura. The sheer volume of this completely swamped that one Miyu stan who decided that someone is a hater if they didn't happen to like Miyu's singing (either technically or because of personal taste), and that not ranking her within their top 12 overall or top 5 Japanese contestants also makes someone a hater. Good times!
Miss A slayed the charts and GP recognition and support with 2 Chinese, 1 American, only 1 Korean and NO main vocal level singers.
1 American = Min, Min is not American, she just trained in America for a while because JYP had American ambitions even before WG. And then, of course, because the 2 Chinese weren't very fluent at the time they didn't pick up popularity easily, and then in fairly short order only Suzy was popular even though Miss A continued to chart well digitally throughout their career.
Agreed, all their attempts flopped. I honestly doubt Soyou could do it well either.
I so associate Soyou with her breathy/airy falsetto (and usual delivery) that if you told me she never belted a single note in all of Sistar's discography I might actually believe you.

I don't like Pledis song tbh, and neither the japanese song.
Did pledis produce this?
If so why couldn't they produce song like this for finale.
I like this song. I got to like gyuri a bit so I'm sad she missed this promo in particular!
Mnet is trying their hardest to push Yuri. They even took a part that Gyuri hit and made it seem like Yuri did it. And Mnet has been trying to kill of Miyu for the longest.
Again... it was obviously Yuri and not Gyuri's voice. The scene where the producers were discussing the results was obviously afterwards and that's why Yuri was visible in the background.
It’s been thrown around before that this season’s main vocals are subpar compared to last seasons. Yuri would probably be considered the best as she’s been more consistent and has less trouble hitting the really challenging high notes but even then she’s no Yeonjung, much less a Jaehwan. Now I’m sure with more practice and training all the girls in PD48 would be MUCH better in their respective positions/fortes but keep in mind some things can’t be trained, such as someone’s singing range. Only a few artist in the Kpop industry are born with amazing ranges which are eventually perfected through training. Jaehwan was showcased as a perfect main vocal in S2 whereas many of the main vocalists in PD48 have been shown struggling hitting certain notes.
No, your singing range can absolutely be trained. But there's an upper limit for expansion, or rather incremental gains for ever greater effort, I guess.
浣腸 = enema
But there are homophones, obviously the poster just picked the kanji. I think kancho is also the term for that "prank" where you stick your fingers up someone's butt. Like on Naruto, Kakashi's 1000 years of pain = kancho. >.>;;;;;Wait, Hitomi's speech was saying that her cheeks are full of her hopes and dreams?

Why is she the fluffiest person omg.
... this is like a line from Kuroko no Basuke... well, it's more like an end-chapter Q&A where a character (Aomine) was answering the question about why he's a boob man.

She said that her bangs has been rolled over. Fans also pointed out that she's in ALUU, a salon that do the hair of some of the top k- idols.
lol... well, there's still plenty of time for them to change their minds (management, I mean). Did she indicate if she was happy with it or not?
-
Why is it "green grape" flavor and then it's periwinkle-colored...?
3.) Yes they have. Did everyone forget Yeri?
I don't think they hated Yeri because of her age... it was another excuse, there. The hate was mostly because she was a late addition.
Rather, maknae are usually popular even when very young. Like, Krystal and Sulli, Sohee....
Please delete this. The pic came from Sakura's mobame, a paid service. It should not be shared publicly.
I'd like to remind everyone to please do not share J-line's mobame photos publicly. 48G has expressed feeling bad when they see photos being shared outside mobame.
So... was there a caption to go alone with this picture? Is it really the korean stylists at work, because it's still like a month till debut so I don't see why they'd bother doing anything with their hair right now.

What other priorities does Stone have? Perhaps they are separating the trainee... training and artist management functions, though.
