But I was just seriously annoyed by them last year (or was it two years ago?) when John updated many times with TOP. One of them even said that John might be taking advantage of TOP because he's older. 

 

Although I do see what you're talking about with GD, a lot of the moments that people say are a proof of his crush seem to be textbook fanservice to me (see the TOP doll thing, or when he said he would date TOP). GD is the most aware of how his pairing are popular in fandom (see his interactions with Seungri as well) so he knows how to play with his fans. Now if he really has a crush on TOP, who knows. It might be. But I don't see TOP having any romantic interest in GD. TOP's behavior with Daesung is much more interesting imo.

If the Tohn rumor never happened, I believe we'd have never doubted his sexuality. Right now, I don't think they ever dated but my mind keeps changing about it so I don't know 

 

His interviews are always weird, especially when they ask him about love. One day he's going to say that he gave up on relationships or that he prefers his bearbricks (I can't remember when he said that but I do remember that he once said that he put his bearbricks in group so they wouldn't feel alone, idk it's really sad that he thinks like that, isn't it?) and another day is going to say he wants to find love so he's probably just being unsure about what he really wants since he can't really date - be it boys or girls - as freely as he would want to. 

I looked it up online and I can't find the bearbricks thing in the W Korea interview. He talks about them but only says that he doesn't collect them anymore. He talks about love though:

Idk about the marriage thing because I also don't want to get married either so it doesn't strike me as something supiscious? He said his ideal type would be an independant woman and getting married when you're an idol draws unnecessary attention. Maybe he just wants to keep it low, maybe he's not into marriage, maybe he has trust issues, maybe he can't because he's gay... the list goes on. 

I don't think being more comfortable around the same sex as something to do with sexuality... isn't it like that for most people? and he's an artist so it's not surprising that he may have gay friends. It's quite common nowadays, everyone has gay friends.

 

In the end, there are many ways to interpret his words so it just depends on how you look at it I guess. But as you said, we will probably never know and I think it's a lot better like that for him and everyone else. I'm curious but I'd rather him having a relationship far away from the media than knowing about his sexuality.

I've never posted on this thread before but I've been lurking for a while. I've always had mixed feelings about TOP. He's my ultimate bias (I don't listen to kpop that much anyway so he's my only bias actually) but I'm relatively old so I guess I don't have that delusional side his younger/teenage fans can have, even though I like to joke about it. I've been checking tumblr/twitter all day, it's quite funny to see them freaking out about TOP possibly being taken

 

Anyway, I only started to have thoughts that he could be interested in men when I read people talking about him and John. But my feelings about his sexuality kind of come and go... idk it's very weird because usually my gaydar is on point.   Most of my male friends are gay and I've always known without them telling me and they were usually quite surprised to find out I already knew the day they came out to me and some of them are quite masculine... in the Tom Ford kind of way, if that makes any sense. 

 

I've always thought TOP was straight because he's not as uninterested as most other suspected kpop idols but then again, he's on the masculine side so it's a bit harder to tell I guess.

What makes me think he's straight: there are photos of him and his ex-girlfriend all over the internet (pre-debut), he wrote her a song and was very emotional when he talked about her/their relationship on a tv show (I think he never got over it). He already talked about his ideal type many times, that includes his feet/high heels fetish. He was rumored to be in a relationship with an actress and there was some proofs (photos of them meeting in a car/at each other dorms or apartment). There also was this fanaccount of him flirting with a waitress in a nightclub when BB was in London and it seemed legit but we can't really take that as a "proof". His crush on Hyori for years "I will become a rapper/famous for you" 

 

I think what we interpret as him being increasingly less interested in women is actually him just being increasingly less interested in typical idol interview questions/idol life. If you read his interviews, he tends to give deep answers and he's not afraid to tell his mind (he shaded the entertainment industry a few times already). 

Overall, it seems like he has really high expectations when it comes to his relationships (including friends) and most of all, to himself. I'm like that so I know how it feels like to have high expectations for yourself... you tend to have the same expectations for others and you end up disappointed most of the time. 

 

When I first read about the Tohn theory, I thought it could be real and sometimes I still think it could be real but then again, TOP has always been really secretive when it comes to his private life so I wonder why he would let John post pictures of them on twitter and instagram if they really were an item? Idk it seems a bit strange to me and Tohn is the only thing that made me doubt his sexuality. I don't find his skinship with other BB members suspicious because it doesn't happen that often and I think he's just more comfortable with them since he has known them for over a decade. We never saw him act like that with other males (fellow actors for example) and he said himself that he was kind of obsessed with respecting others, especially females and elders.

 

The only other thing that could be suspicious is when he talked about the fact he gave up on having a relationship and said that there was a rumor of him dating his (male) manager and he joked about that. Idk about that, some people thought he was testing the waters but I do think it was just a joke because I really can't see him come out anytime soon if he's gay - or ever telling anyone if he's in a straight relationship. He cares way too much about his private life staying private, hence the "I gave up on having a relationship" but at the same time he seems unsure about that because he also said he wanted to fall in love.

 

I wanted to say something else but I forgot what it was  I'm really tired so I hope my post makes sense, I will correct it if it doesn't.

 

Edit: Regarding his "gay" joke, I think he's just open-minded about it. There's this really mature feeling about him, he always seemed more wise to me than the average korean idol.

TOP is poetic in how he constructs his lines and kind of straightforward with his feelings(?) (at least from the trans that we read)

GD plays around with words creating puns, referencing something from their culture, etc (I see a little puns in trans but kvips say there's a lot hidden in trans)

 

That's why GD x TOP complements each other so well. When reading trans of their songs together, it doesn't feel like someone else's songs that they are made to sing. When their voices switch, so does the personalities in their lyrics. Even without listening to them, you can almost tell immediately there are 2 personalities in that song.

I preferred Niliria (GD's version only) >> OOAK (but both are flawless) just from watching GD's performance of it on Sketchbook. GD is not the best kpop rapper, but he really showcased his improved rapping skills in Niliria. Reminded me of what he said in an interview before, haters are his biggest motivators, their criticisms are the basis for his improvements. Few years ago they shitted on his rapping (slurred, hard to understand words), but he proved them wrong starting with OOAK.

 

Agreed, a lot of songs' lyricism are lost in translation. A kVIP once wrote that GD is very crafty with his lyrics - crafty in that his lyrics contained lots of wordplays/idioms (only understandable if you're fluent in the language and its culture) and can be interpreted in many ways depending on the listeners. One reason why GD tends to be more praised as a lyricist over TOP is because of this - GD is more crafty, while TOP is more straightforward (so easier to translate and more understandable to interpret).

i liked niliria too more than OOAK , but i liked OOAK more than coup d'etat ( for me diplo did really a bad job in that song ) 

and as for the comparison btw top and gd's lyrics , well i have a friend that study korean and even that she's gd stan , she told me that she appreciate top's lyrics more bcs they're deeper , and so hard to understund , she also told me that when you translate his songs they lost their meanings , just like doom dada , if you read the english translation you will be like WTF , but then when you see the explanation of it , you can see that it makes sens
