I think that we, as their fandom, need to look at this as a teachable moment. It is okay to feel upset but I would encourage people to find some way to communicate to SM, in a respectful manner, how these kind of actions are both hurtful and harmful. The level of vitriol I have seen from some (not here, thankfully) is entirely counter productive.

Not particular on topic to the discussion, but your second paragraph is something I have felt for a long time. When people blow something too far out of proportion or take it to the extreme, it moves into the realm of being mockable. That in itself dilutes the whole cause. On topic, I think much of the hate she is going to get are people using it as a convenient excuse to attack her and have very little interest in actually discussing things. The internet is a realm where people would rather try and beat someone else into submission with their opinion rather than actually have a dialogue I also get what was said about stereotypes and how minimal exposure to actual POC in Korea could allow them to create a negative image. I also think that our media has as much blame in regards to how POC are regarded in other cultures. Simply look at the vast majority of television shows and movies and their treatment of various races... We have exported those stereotypes en mass. I just thought the backlash from the original incident would have kept it from happening again.

Personally, while I hate downplaying other peoples feelings, I do think some people are blowing it way out of proportion. As someone who has experienced not just racism but violent racism for much of his life, I kind of roll my eyes at the things people get angry about online... Sure, it may have been insensitive and people get angry at stereotyping, but this isn't "racist" to me.

Might be easier to prepare... Like... If we knew what was going on?
