  1. What I don't get about SNH48 'going independent' is that surely AKS still get money from them, right? Because SNH48 still use the 48 style logo and all.
  2. Why no Sketchbook ;+ Why no real band live since the showcase
  3. Uncontrollably Fond is actually a fairly understated melo so far.
  4. Uncontrollably Fond is a great drama, and with a great first episode too. Measured direction and editing as opposed to the cheap hyperdrama of most dramas, relatively speaking understated acting, characters that are allowed to grow into real human beings rather than being presented as extreme caricatures immediately. A melodrama done right, with all the positive effects of pre-production. Of course quality doesn't mean success. Good dramas can become hits and good dramas can fail to make an impact. Dogshit dramas can become great hits - look at DOTS. I think Moon Lovers will succeed if nothing else because of the high production values and attractive cinematography.
  5. I don't think I've ever seen her in better form than for the NOWNESS concert. It's a blast. Commercially it make zero sense to stop working on Japan. Compared to younger rnb stars in Japan, all of the 'new Utadas' who went on to really flopping, she's still in a very enviable position. Getting a #10 on Oricon, both for singles and concert dvds, doing some shows every year, even getting a digital hit now and then (like with Make Me Complete) - she's probably pretty comfortable in Japan. She even gets the Mariah-ish relevance boost every xmas... I mean she got invited to MUSIC STATION last xmas, in a time when no one gets invited to MS anyomre. Artistically her releases in Korea have been much more interesting for the past few years though.
  6. China activities so boring for us non-Chinese since there's no new content
  7. This time they also recorded the instruments themselves. http://star.mt.co.kr/stview.php?no=2016070415355975705
  8. Thanks - yeah! I miss Hyori a lot. But she worked hard for a long time in the spotlight and seems to be enjoying her hippie life on Jeju now. I do hope and believe she'll come back and be an entertainer again, if only for brief moments. Or maybe as an activist. Politician. If the Korean political scene didn't such so much.
  9. I can't quite get over how Lee Hyori, back in 2013, stated that IU would be artist to take over her place. Even as a fan of both back then I didn't quite realize the depth of her observation. "Wha - they do totally different music, IU's on a singer songwriter course in a different way than Hyori, Hyori's the sexy queen, the variety queen, why does she draw this connection?" But as the years went on and IU weathered scandals and took control over her own image and career in new ways the truth of the observation became apparent. Hyori's the big mainstream star who managed to separate herself from the ideal image of a star - pure, faultless, following the taste of the majority, non-confrontational. Hyori was the opposite of that, and she saw the same qualities and potential in IU. Those qualities were already bubbling under the surface in IU's earlier days - she was never one to spit standard PR phrases in interviews, allow people to control her or act a polished version of herself. And after that, it's only become more obvious how badass she is, how unafraid she is to confront mainstream perception, to comment on it and subvert it, to become someone who writes her own narrative, who challenges stereotypical ideas of how a female star at the peak of popularity 'needs' to act - and inspires others in the process. Hyori really saw that clearly. When most people in the mainstream were still talking about IU as the cute 'nation's little sister' she saw her as a provocateur, like herself. It wasn't the superficial similarities, but how they use their powers.
  10. Riripon 's philosophy book is being translated, starting with the preface. Please read and bookmark
  11. But they do enjoy it, after 10 seconds they close their eyes and the embrace goes on. These are people in love. If they slapped the guy to show them they didn't accept his forceful kiss, that'd be great. The reason they're wide eyed is because of the stereotype that these girls are somehow so pure and innocent and inexperienced that a simple peck makes them shocked and spellbound. That happens in almost any drama, and it's offensive. Happens once in a blue moon with a guy if the director/screenwriter has some sense, but mostly it's girls. The fact that they so rarely get to be the active part, but stand there passive and stunned, shows how far k dramas still have to go. That and the horrible stupid trend of male protagonists grabbing the female love interest's wrist to take control.
  12. Well it's impossible to answer that in a simple way. I lived in Korea for two years but hardly feel qualified to speak on anything but what's covered in the media. Some key points: Most LGBT people probably feel like hiding it, if not from the family then from work or society at large. Talking about LGBT issues is not really taboo, but coming out will feel like taboo for most. Traditional family values, etc. etc. Generation gap is huge. Polls show a majority of younger people are 'ok' with homosexuality, older generation absolutely not. Anti-discrimination laws are hard to push through because of a strong Christian lobby. Some of the Korean churches are truly hateful. Korea regularly votes in favour of LGBT rights causes in the UN, but at home the politicians who want to do anything about it feel the risk outweighs what they can gain. Earlier this spring Seoul saw the biggest queer festival & parade yet, with tens and tens of thousands celebrating in the city centre. Last year Korea University elected a president who came out as lesbian during the campaign. 86.8 percent voted in favor. Universities are usually the 'best' mainstream spot to champion gay rights since a lot of LGBT student unions are active and these young, well-educated people are usually more positive towards LGTB. Representation in media is lacking, as noted here before. Gay men are represented to some degree, lesbians have had it worse. All in all it's a complex picture. LGBT acceptance is on rise each year but in practical terms coming out is likely to be an ordeal and long overdue anti-discrimatory laws are always pushed back by hate lobbies.
  13. I wish it was weirder. Should've gone for some Shangri-Las realness.
  14. People generally liked her acting in Producers. They were just hating in advance as usual.

  18. So good to see her back at #1 on instiz! In a way it does have some of the same laid back grooves as Kiss My Lips.. never easy to predict what will hit on the charts.

  20. Sasshi's on top and not an underdog, and of course should handle some fightin' words, but I mean she's always been looked at as an outsider. It's fun and games at first but when you're top dog for years and people still think it's a "joke" or are talking about waiting for a "real winner" then of course it can have an impact. They're airing a TV show on how to take her down "for the greater good". Even the official akb publications - Sasshi blog post from last year: In the last year's official guidebook there were words of some critic, who "wanted to see the moment of collapse of Sashihara, who thinks she's first, when she becomes 2nd". Such words as "Sashihara extermination". It stings even now. I won't forget it. Not to get too sob story-ish here but she quit school because she was bullied - there can be a sense of being an outcast that doesn't necessarily disappear. Even if you're successful it can still be lonely at the top. So yeah if you're reading articles about how you're the enemy of the members after contributing to the group for years.. Aki-P may have a point that it's strategically better for her to have that role, but that doesn't mean it can't tire. Mayu may not have meant anything by it but the initial news reports were gleeful about using that 'enemy' term. And that Mayu fan deserved to get a beating on Twitter.
  21. Mayu upping the war saying 'Sasshi is every 48g member's enemy' or something like that http://www.sponichi.co.jp/entertainment/news/2016/06/01/kiji/K20160601012699410.html
  22. Oh and GO RIRIPON. I want to see her wax philosophical in her speech.
