  1. He isn't wrong. Kpop idols/groups are essentially manufactured. Idols are taught to sing, dance, how to speak and act infront of everyone, what type of character/personality they have to portray. You can never know what type of person your favourite idol might be and we've seen clear examples of this of these idols turned criminals (not that all idols are criminals).. If you think your favourite idol never lies/acts fake, you're probably deluding yourself.

It was always stacked against BTS or Kpop in general because radio play counts.

So the industry can directly influence radio channels to dictate "what's popular". All the famous artist from the US aren't as organic as the industry would like us to think.

It's against such odds that BTS and other groups fight. If anything, their success is more organic than many Western artists as they don't get the radio push. Fans are spending money on them, without the groups having been pushed at us in the West.

But at the same time that is the issue of popularity Stereogum talks about, while yes, BTS sales made them #1 on the charts due to the extreme fandom power of mass streaming and download/buying projects... does that directly translate into the popularity of a song? Aka the awareness of the song throughout the general public. Not exactly, no. However, to be fair, there are lots songs that reach number 1 which isnt exactly a mass hit with the general public.

So while this article attacking BTS is just plain stupid, it does bring up a relevant point that can be applied to ALL artists.

I also agree with your point that radio stations can be manipulated by industry heads, but I also dont expect stations to play kpop because it doesnt appeal to the general listener.

  3. While I think that celebrities are not responsible for the actions of their fans, I also agree that this was probably unecessary to say? But it seems to be not intention, more of a slip of the tongue. Sad this seems to be a common mindset for the K-audience that extreme dieting is ok.

On another note, I'm actually not surprised to hear he did this? As soon as I saw him in the music video, his face looked really slim/kinda sunken.. I knew he had to have done some type of restrictive diet for that.

  4. The grammys has always been unpredictable, you could have the best sales and recognition and still not be nominated. Unfortunately, this is just a situation where committee members picks their preferred artist/song - so its subjective as hell.

Also, at the end of the day this is still an American award show where Black Americian artists struggle to be represented properly and are often cheated from (obviously) deserved awards. Latin artists are seperated from the English Grammy awards to their own Latin Grammy awards show.

So yeah, I wasnt expecting much tbh.

  5. While BoA had no impact in the US, I think the more important question is did BoA's impact of opening up Kpop to a foreign country (Japan), help build the road for future Kpop groups to enter different music markets in the rest of the world? Would other Kpop groups/companies even have the guts to try to enter other music markets if her career in Japan wasnt succesful?

  6. Honestly, I understand not wanting to talk to other people and go about your business on social media but this is an important topic about living arrangements... so its kinda rude for her to ignore you after 3 attempts, especially since she's including you in her lie to her mom. Idk if you're comfortable but why not call her or talk to her in person, at least that way she cant ignore you?
