when girls do male choreography it looks cool as fuck, but when guys do the female equivalent it's a fucking joke. the guys always get actual choreo while the girls are given aegyo disguised as dance. i guess i'm western so i don't like the idea of grown-ass women acting like elementary kids to pander to korean egos, but then again i wonder if what hyuna is doing is any better? i love her & her music a lot, but it raises questions for me about women & sexuality in kpop. i think there's a fine line between sexy to sell and sexy because that's what independent, strong women are. i personally think twice (& the entire host of cutesy concept groups currently in action) is terrific at doing what they do, and whether they're talented or whether their music is good i can't judge, but at times i can't help but feel that i don't want to see kpop continue down this path. onces laud twice members for their authentic personalities, but i wish it was reflected in their music as well.
and an unrelated rant about company stans.
i stan bigbang, shinee, exo, and to an extent winner, and blackpink: in that order. bigbang is my ub group, and i like lee hi, akmu, and epik high (& tablo) as well. i pretty much enjoy every yg group except ikon (what a yikes), and i consider myself a yg stan. but i listen to whatever the fuck i want, and if it bops i bop and then i stan. i think the artist-not-idol image is mostly untrue, even if some do take part in producing their songs, and every time i see a stan-yg-stan-talent post i want to kill myself. likewise, when i see people shitting on yg for being elitist assholes i want to kill myself too, because honestly there aren't a lot of delulus: they're just the ones that speak up. company stans in general are shit.
last rant on gd's album. this one person says it much better than i ever could:
