  2. Here's Ling Ling's interview with Ototoy! ──I watched 「SHARRã€at the WACK Fes and was impressed. Ling Ling: Thank you. Were you able to hear my voice? ──I heard you. Don’t you think right now it’s the turning point of BiSH’s performances? Above all, I felt the awakening of BiSH after hearing Ling Ling in 「SHARRã€. Did you always want to try shouting? Ling Ling: Not particularly (laughs). When we started recording, Matsukuma-san said “I’ll have Ling Ling sing a lotâ€, but I thought only Aina the End can do shouting like this. First of all, I don’t even know what counts as death growls* so I was just like “I’ll just try shoutingâ€, and sang with the voice that came out. (* she said “death voice†but I don’t think it was called that in English so I tried googling it and this is what came up but I’m not sure if it’s correct lol). ──Shouting like this isn’t something everybody can do. What was the reaction of the people around you? Ling Ling: I was praised, but I don’t really get it. That wasn’t death growl right? If someone who was expecting death growl heard that, I think they would think “What is she doing?â€. I’m sure there are opinions from both sides. ──I think it closely resembled envy (Shows a video of envy). Ling Ling: Eh! I’m happy. ──What kind of album was 『THE GUERRiLLA BiSH〠to Ling Ling? Ling Ling: Lots of songs. I like all the songs so much that I can’t decide which one I like the most. ──But out of all of them which one do you like? Ling Ling: Probably 「FOR HiMã€. I like the melody. ──What kind of song is 「Here's looking at you, kid.〠that Ling Ling wrote? Ling Ling: It is the continuation of 「My distinctionã€, and I wrote about how even if there is a childish person like Peter Pan, if they understand the feeling of others, they will be able to grow up. It’s about how there are things you are able to see because you took a step outside. When I wrote 「My distinction〠I was very depressed. ──Is it because being in BiSH was difficult? Ling Ling: No, not BiSH. Also I’m using words to connect 「My distinction〠and 「Here's looking at you, kid.〠because there is a difference of 2 years between the two so I wrote the lyrics “Look at two years agoâ€. ──When you say “I’m happy I realized it!☆â€, you’re not being sarcastic right? Ling Ling: Yes. I’m happy right now! ──Are you able to balance out BiSH and your private life now? A little while back you were in your ‘not wanting to meet people’ mood. Ling Ling: I’ve gotten used to being busy now. Before, while I went to school, the others didn’t have anything, and then we would all gather at night for interviews, but now the members separately have work during the day, and everyone is about equally busy so my mood is a bit different. ──To Ling Ling, that’s a good thing? Ling Ling: Yes. Because I’m able to think that everyone is the same. ──What kind of live was Makuhari Messe to Ling Ling? Ling Ling: It was fun! I was excited the whole time. To be honest, I only want to do lives on the days I feel like it. I don’t do it because I want everyone to feel excited or because I want to be seen, but because I want to do it, and I don’t really want to pump up the crowd. My mood is different each time, so I hate deciding what I’m going to say ahead of time. But I got too excited for Makuhari, that when we had rehearsals the day before the live, I volunteered to do it myself, saying “I will pump up the crowd for 「GiANT KiLLERSã€!â€. I thought of the phrase on my own and said, “I want to say ‘fire’â€, and originally the fire was only supposed to come out during the chorus, but they changed it so it comes out when I say ‘fire’, so I was happy about that. ──Generally the words you say to pump up the crowd and the stage effects are decided before the live right? Ling Ling: Yes. Everyone else plans ahead of time, but when I’m put in charge of pumping up the crowd on days I really don’t want to do it, I say “I might not want to do it today†and stay quiet. ──There are times you quit! Ling Ling: But there are times I go out on stage and see the atmosphere of the audience, and feel that I can easily do it, so it’s difficult. ──Out of 100, how many points would you give for your live at Makuhari Messe? Ling Ling: 95 points. ──That’s high! Why did you dock 5 points? Ling Ling: I accidentally did the wrong choreography for the intro of 「Marionetteã€, mine was the opposite of everyone else. Also everyone’s MC was too long. It would’ve been better if we could smoothly tell everyone what we wanted to say. That’s about it. ──It was your biggest stage yet, what did you think about that? Ling Ling: I like big stages better because it feels like we’re on display. ──Display (laughs). Well there were 14,000 eyes. Ling Ling: It’s unbelievable (laughs)! ──Was there something memorable that happened between Makuhari and the release of 『THE GUERRiLLA BiSHã€? Ling Ling: Uh…I wonder if there was something? ──For example TBS or the BLITZ live you attended in the place of BiS. Ling Ling: BLITZ’s live went bad. At that time I couldn’t keep up with everything like physical strength. But I end up forgetting most of the lives from the past anyways. Everytime we just f*ck and leave (The term she used is “yari nigeâ€. The literal translation is doing something and running away, which is kind of the way she used it, but the more well known use of the word is having sex and one person runs away right after) ──F*ck and leave (laughs). Ling Ling: Oh, Dotonbori and Roppongi’s guerrilla live was fun. That was literally like f*cking and leaving so it was awesome. ──So the guerrilla promotions was something exciting to you. Ling Ling: Yes! Also, the songs that music videos are created for seem like we’re feigning innocence, so instead of beautiful songs, I want to show the public loud and crazy songs. ──What were the TV promotions like? Ling Ling: I was happy about it, but my part is usually in the second verse because it seems like my voice is peculiar, so I heard that people start to like my voice around the time they start getting tired of the song. So I felt like a background actor for TV appearances. I wasn’t nervous, and felt relaxed. The other day when we were recording, Matsukuma-san was like “I watched ‘Sukkiri!’ and ‘Music Station’ but Ling Ling was the only member who didn’t get to sing. I’m sorryâ€, so for our new song, he let me sing the first verse. But he said, “I’m sorry if you guys don’t get to perform on TV this timeâ€. ──It’s becoming a joke now (laughs). Ling Ling: Hahaha (laughs). I wonder why people only sing the first verse on TV? ──The length of the appearance is different for each person/group even for Music Station, so if you become bigger artists, maybe you can sing until the end? Ling Ling: I see! Then it’s okay. ──Also, I said this towards the beginning too, but I think Ling Ling’s sense of existence suddenly increased with this album. Ling Ling: Is that so? But it’s true that I shout more than before. ──Is shouting becoming your identity? Ling Ling: There are many times I want to sing cutely too. Shouting is something the other members can’t do, so I guess that’s good too. ──What is the relationship between the members like after the release of your album? Ling Ling: Normal. ──What is considered normal for BiSH? Ling Ling: We talk. ──(Laughs). Are you working hard for your next tour right now? Ling Ling: I think everyone is nervous for Yokohama Arena. But during 〈BiSH’s Gakuen Tengoku (Academy Heaven)Tour〉 and 〈BiSH About a Girl Tour〉, the set list was mostly the same, but we made mistakes so many times. We went to the next song without the MC, and also we skipped one song and went straight to MC and the live ended without performing that song. So lately, instead of thinking about the future, we decided to calm down and get back into our own pace. ──Is Yokohama Arena a big goal for you? Ling Ling: Yes. It’s the place Michishige-san graduated (from Morning Musume) so it’s a grand place! Nakano Sun Plaza is also a sacred place for Hello Project so I’m excited and happy that I can get close to the same stage. Because I’m able to think things like “Hello Project also used this water!†(laughs). ──You’re a fan (laughs). Which group do you like? Ling Ling: Morning Musume. I’ve liked them since the second year of middle school. ──You like them regardless of generation? Ling Ling: They’re always the best! One time we were together for the recording of the show〈Do Mayonaka (Extremely Midnight) Fes!! #2〉, and my favorite member was next to me, so I was shaking the entire time. My header for Twitter is the picture we took together. I like Sato Masaki-chan (Ma-chan), she’s an angel! She’s from Hokkaido, and she was still carrying a randoseru (backpacks that elementary school students use) when she joined Morning Musume. Her carrying a randoseru is already cute right? (laughs). And during the behind the scenes of their tour, she was eating catering, and she looked like a child that doesn’t know anything yet. I was defeated by her innocence and kept watching thinking she’s so cute, but now she’s like the ace of Morning Musume ‘17. I’ve been watching all this time, but I haven’t stopped and I don’t get tired of her/them. ──Ling Ling looks so lively when talking about Sato-san (laughs). What kind of live do you want Yokohama Arena to be? Ling Ling: Yokohama Arena is where BiS-san disbanded right? I want to fill up all the seats. ──I’m sure Ling Ling who likes big stages will have fun. Ling Ling: I get more excited for big stages, so I can properly show my energy. ──You’re completely the rock star type. Is there a stage that you want to hold a live at? Ling Ling: Budokan and Tokyo Dome. But the other members often say “We want to continue having lives at small stages, not just big†and I’m just like ‘Is that so?’. I also want to hold a live at somewhere round. Is Saitama Super Arena round? ──The exterior wall is round, but overall it’s rectangular. Ling Ling: Oh really? ──But I guess you can say it’s round. Anyhow it’s big. Ling Ling: I want to perform somewhere where we get to the center through the traverse stage!
  3. The flu in Japan is really bad this year. Not only celebrities but everybody is getting sick so I don't think it's the vaccine. And yeah I don't think the elections will just end like this.
  4. Woah 4 BiS members (Kika, Go Zeela, Peri, and Momoland) and 2 Gang Parade members (Coco and Aya) are down with the flu... I hope they all get better soon and I hope the rest of the members are okay.
  5. This is from last month but they performed car radio and it's great. At first I didn't really like Beyond the Mountain, but after hearing it live, I suddenly like it lol.
  6. Wow it hasn't been that long since their last live but they seem much more confident and they seem to be having a lot of fun. But did YU-Ki forget to sing at 8:15? lol. Vocally I was impressed by YUKA. The more I listen to Akarui Mirai, the more I like it. I can't wait for them to release a full album. Thank you for posting the Gang Parade live. This is my favorite styling for them outfit wise. And while all of them are good I got goosebumps when Coco started to sing. Aya and Yamamachi was impressive as well though. Gang Parade are such powerful performers. How are they able to sing like that after dancing hard? I just wish they sang car radio. That song is my favorite. The lyrics are really nice. And it's interesting how Yui sang the "kore mata say hello" part because I don't think she sang it originally (?). Do they do this for all lives? The last time I watched the live for Plastic 2 Mercy was when I still couldn't tell the members apart lol. For WACK group it's so hard to choose a favorite member because they all impress you in different ways whether it's through singing, performance, character, or performance.
  7. Yeah... WACK has the whole rental/trade thing so it's bit confusing who was in which group during what time. I'm not really sure if the person meant Hashiyasume and Ling Ling weren't working hard enough but I think they meant they weren't as eager compared to the other members? And about Kamiya I think they're trying to say that she should feel threatened since she was part of WACK longer than some/a lot of the others that ranked higher? I'm not sure. But blaming the members are pointless. As long as there is an election, members will get ranked and some will rank high while some low.
  8. WHAT?! omg... In GUERiLLA BiSH there was a song called "FOR HiM" (Pour Lui is French for "For him" right?) so some fans were speculating that song was supposed to be for her or about her but I didn't believe it since it seemed so random since she from a different group and it's just one member but if it really is about her, then it kinda makes sense. Although it might just be a coincidence. I hope she's still gonna be in the entertainment industry though...
  9. The ones that control/manage this place are researchers' (BiS's fanclub) but there aren't that many. A few months later, the only memories left are that of Gang Parade bravely fighting, that's the kind of project this is. There's the training camp as well so it will be forgotten. My guess is that Chittiii's *gekokujou would be made into a movie. It was dramatic (*gekokujou is when junior's overthrow their seniors) I guess this means depending solely on the magnitude of BiSH's popularity was tough. Hashiyasume and Ling Ling joined around the same time but they weren't motivated at all/didn't put any effort into this election so the results aren't surprising. The main point is the period of activity. Pan, Momo, and EMPiRE hasn't been active that long so it can't be helped that that ranked low. The one in the riskiest situation must be Kamiya. And Go Zeela needs to work harder as well. - The last comment is a bit weird to me because Ayuni joined even later than Hashiyasume and Ling Ling and she ranked high so it's not about the length of activity. And isn't Sakura Mana the MC of one of the videos BiSH guested on (a few pages back)? I know it was an AV actress but I'm not sure if it's the same one.
  10. BiSH had a documentary (or movie?) that came out back in December, could it be that? Unless they announced a WACK movie. And yeah I'm still a little upset over Ling Ling not even making it to top 15 but Ling Ling is busy fangirling so I guess she doesn't care that much lol.
  11. Yeah I only listened to a preview of the songs and I loved Plastic 2 Mercy and Lover Soul so I only bought those two songs.
  12. BiSH will be singing the OP for the second season of Black Clover! The song is called "PAiNT it BLACK" the first episode will air on January 9! So excited. In Ling Ling's recent interview (that I haven't finished translating yet) Matsukuma said that Ling Ling will sing the first verse(?) of their next song because she always sings the second and doesn't get to sing on music shows lol.
  13. Momoland is too cute! Seems like she had a fun Christmas lol. omg you got the albums! Guerilla BiSH is seriously an amazing album. And the cover is pretty good. Especially since she's singing it by herself.
  14. This year's Kouhaku recorded the third worst rating with 39.4% (1st half 35.8% and 2nd half 39.2%). I'm not too surprised though...
  15. I'm happy with the results but now that I think about it Aina will have (already has) chances to go solo without this so I wanted to hear others like Ayuni and GANG PARADE members, specifically Yumeno Yua and Aya. It's only the top 2 that get solo songs right? Anyways... I'm loving the Atsuko posters! And Aya was part of BiS in 2016 so that might be why she's up so high. Also she's super pretty. I'm also a new fan of her (lol if it wasn't obvious from my avatar). But I'm surprised Yui ga Dokuson didn't make it to top 15. Even Matsukuma said he would choose her if he were to vote lol. I'm also upset about Ling Ling though :( But there's just too many good choices so it can't be helped.
  16. LOL! I'm sure we'll have a very WACKY New Year because there seems to be a lot planned! - And I finally finished translating Aina's interview as well as some of the songs. I wanted to translate it together because the interviews make reference to the lyrics. Also Ling Ling's interview with Ototoy is out so I will get working on that soon With the lyrics I'm not 100% because the lyricists (including the members of course) are very artsy/creative with the words so I don't know if I'm supposed to take it literally or if there is a hidden meaning behind it. (Not proofread as usual) Please let me know of any grammatical errors/just strange wordings, typos, etc. ──"THE GUERRiLLA BiSH" is an amazing album. What’s with that scream during "SHARR"! Aina: Ha ha ah (laughs). During the recording, even Matsukuma-san was laughing, saying “No one would do this!â€. The recording for "SHARR" (1) was unique, Chittiii, Momoko, and I went inside the booth, Momoko fit the lyrics into the music with the help of Matsukuma-san’s directing, Chittiii sang it because she’s a fast learner, and I made a clean copy of it. Momoko would scream “It’s supposed to be ‘Sharakuse! Korosareso!’†so I returned the scream with, ‘OKAY!’ (laughs). And all the others were in the other room watching and laughing, and after that everyone took turns recording it. So this song feels like a song that everyone created together. ──Who sings the chorus? Aina: Mainly Ling Ling and I sing it. Ling Ling was already good at it so she didn’t really hurt her throat. I had to ask people who do it in their bands and practice a lot. ──How’s your throat lately? Aina: Right now it’s fine. I’m not depending on medicine, and I stopped taking herbs that is good for your throat. I changed my diet, and I started using my nose when I’m normally talking. But for me, I hurt my throat when I get emotional. When I was part of BLITZ, who was the pinch hitter for BiS, I lost my voice and the live was trash. Ever since then, when I’m about to get emotional, I tell myself, “Stay calm, stay calmâ€. ──You changed the way you think about it. Aina: But I always end up getting emotional. Even Matsukuma-san tells me, “If you gave it 120%, bring it down to 80%â€. For "WACK & SCRAMBLES WORKS", when I was recording Buzz 72+’s "Okujo no sora (The Sky from the Roof)", he told me the story behind the song. After that I felt an emotion I have never felt before, and I was singing while crying. ──While working hard to hold your feelings back, is there something you can’t give up as a vocalist? Aina: Lately I feel that I don’t want to be a singer who uses screaming to cover over the fact that they can’t send out the message of a song properly. Before I got surgery on my throat, I thought doing my best to sing and believing in the music I’m singing was cooler and singing a song well wasn’t important. So I would get too emotional and hurt my throat, and on the first day of a 2 day live, I would be covered in bruises (figuratively), but I started wondering if people actually understanding the song. Now, I want to send out the song properly so I’m in the middle of doing researches. ──Your feelings of wanting to get the message across is getting stronger. Aina: Yes. Right after moving to Tokyo, I went to a lot of auditions, and if everything went smoothly, then I don’t think I would be able to sing the way I do now, and I don’t think I would have tried as hard. I was full of insecurities, even now I don’t have a lot of confidence, but as BiSH, we stood on Makuhari Messe’s stage, and I realized, I have singing as my strength. So if I don’t continue improving my singing, not only will I lose to other people, but I will lose to myself, we get the chance to sing such great lyrics on top of great music, so I want to be a singer, who sings and gets the message across (to the receiver). Sometime I feel like I’m becoming a boring adult, but I felt that that’s okay if I tried to sing properly. ──Why did you start thinking that way? Aina: When we were performing “Orchestra†and “Spark†for TBS3, during the ochisabi (lit. ‘soft chorus’ it’s like a calmer version of the chorus, usually the music is very quiet) even if I sang it so many times, I changed the way I sing it for a moment, and I genuinely had a lot of fun. I was able to express myself so much to the extent I wondered what all the lives from before were. After the live, I called my mom right away and told her, “Today, I sang for the first time!†although she was like “Eh? What are you saying?†(laughs). ──What kind of piece is "THE GUERRiLLA BiSH" to Aina? Aina: I think it’s really cool. Ling Ling’s scream became overpowering, Ayuni’s tone changed, Acchan became more firearm-like, Momoko simply got better at singing, and Chittiii, in a good way, lost her “breadwinnerâ€-ness, and it’s great how we’re unpolished and reckless. I could tell that by their voices, there’s bit of struggling, so the live feeling increased. Especially “My landscape†feels like it’s not kissing up to anyone, and even for the choreography, I only did things that I thought was fun. ──What is the theme of the choreography? Aina: I opened the various drawers of my life, and from there I pulled out the fun things as well as my traumas, and I expressed it with my body. I have a fear of needles, so long time ago, during class I pointed the compass needle towards my eye and tried to overcome my fear. ──That’s dangerous! Aina: I got goosebumps all over my body and almost threw up, that’s how impossible it was for me but since I felt frustrated, so I kept staring at the compass needle. That’s why when Ling Ling sings “Midari misezu ni (Won’t show irrationality)†I told her to open her eyes wide. I’ve always wanted to do a disgusting choreography but I was afraid that people would get put off if I did, so I locked it up. But it popped out of the drawer. I also had an image of giving birth, so we lie on our back and open our legs and close it. Since we’re in a skirt, so Sottey-san (Sotobashi Kenta is a cameraman and also does designs for outfits) thought about us and made the pants we wear under into a cute outfit (laughs). The choreography for "My landscape" wasn’t made for anyone, it was made solely out of my trauma, so it’s my favorite dance from BiSH. ──Why did you decide to include your trauma? Aina: When I first talked to Matsukuma-san when we were recording, I thought he was really cool for wanting to do something new. I felt like I shouldn’t match my usual choreography with a song Matsukuma-san put in so much effort to create, and I also didn’t want to get left behind, so I let out the memory I hate the most that I’ve locked up until now, and if I tried to make it cool, I thought I could create something new. Up until now, I thought pulling out the good parts of the members was a field of my expertise, but the if I think back to the memories I hate or traumas, I feel like I can create new choreographies. ──You wrote the lyrics to "ALLS" (2), what kind of song is this? Aina: I sometimes think that women are troublesome because some try to get along with you, but it’s just the surface. And sometimes we’re fussy. But men also have ulterior motives and they kiss-up to people, so I thought who am I to think about others like this? I thought, if I have thoughts like this, maybe I’m not a man or woman. But that’s not true, I must be living as a woman. “I’ll leave everything to you†“I’ll obey†is something Aina the End would never think. I don’t want to leave anything to anyone, I don’t want to obey, those are the thoughts I have on stage. But thinking back to it, the “morass†that I hate about women, is something I have as well, and that must be why I hate it. So I tried to face it right from the front, it’s like the woman side of Aina. ──What song do you like in the album? Aina: Maybe "Here's looking at you, kid." (3) written by Ling Ling. Because I think I know most of Ling Ling’s private life. ──You know most of it! Aina: Because we’re a middle-aged husband and wife (laughs). The lyrics is a continuation from "My distinction", and Ling Ling was extremely down during "My distinction" (4), but "Here's looking at you, kid." has a happy ending and she says “I’m glad I finally got used to being happyâ€. That really struck me, in the beginning, I cried every time I heard it. I really like Ling Ling so much and she’s important, so I’m happy just seeing her smile. And when that leads to expression, it’s really the best. When Ling Ling writes the lyrics, I end up creating the choreographies based on my feelings of liking her too much. ──For example? Aina: In "VOMiT SONG" (5), Ling Ling says she wants to go meet her past, so in the interlude, I let her meet her past. She touches the playground equipment, it wakes up and talks to Ling Ling. In "My distinction", I want Ling Ling to move forward, so in the choreography I expressed the clock where time is moving forward. In "Here's looking at you, kid.", Ling Ling sings all of the chorus, everyone is happy in the choreography. Thanks to Ling Ling, I’m always able to create a choreography that surpasses my expectations, so I’m happy. ──This time all of the lyrics are great. Like no one is lying and everyone simply wrote what they feel so it really has an effect on you. Aina: Yeah, we’re not trying to be something we’re not."Rock n’ Roll no Kami-sama" (6) is very Chittiii-like. But in Hashiyasume’s case, she strangely says things like “I’m not the main character (of my lyrics)â€. Even if it definitely is (laughs). Momoko said her favorite line is “I don’t need to be #1, so I will give it to you†and Matsukuma-san also said “Only Momoko will sing this partâ€. And everyone agreed that Momoko should sing that part. ──Are you handling the busyness well? Aina: I’m happy about being busy. ──You shot the PV in LA. Aina: I was surprised. I accidentally turned the fire alarm on in the middle of the night. ──What do you mean(laughs)? Aina: The air was so dry so in order to humidify my room, I kept the shower on, and then the fire alarm went on. Since it was super loud, the foreign person next door got worried and was like “What happened?†but that person was glaring at me so it was scary (laughs). I started to panic and called our staff but they were like “It’s fine if you wait unti it turns off†and they wouldn’t come. Since I thought it was and, I tried to block the door so I don’t cause trouble to the neighbors and I covered the alarm with my pillow, and all I could do was wait for like 20 minutes until it got quiet. The members were asleep so it was okay but it was the worst for me because I couldn’t sleep. ──That’s your memory from LA? Aina: Yes (laughs). ──But it’s amazing that you guys came to a point where you can shoot PVs overseas. From a person who came from Osaka and didn’t even have a house. Aina: That’s true (laughs). During Makuhari Messe I said, “Please follow us to wherever you canâ€, but I felt like “wherever you can†sounds like we already decided on the limit, so lately I try to think, “Let’s go to the places we want to go togetherâ€. ──Where do you want to go now? Aina: My goal is still the same as the beginning, it’s Budokan. I want us to have a one-man live there. Honestly, I don’t yearn to stand on large stages. But as BiSH, it’s something we’ll have to do, I like everyone in BiSH from the bottom of my heart, so if everyone wants to stand on large stages, then I want to stand on the large stage with them, what everyone wants to do, I want to do. Right now, I want to go wherever BiSH can go, and I want to go where we want to go, so arenas and stadiums, I want to do it all. After doing all that I want to feel like ‘In the end live houses are the best’. ──And currently you’re working hard for your next tour? Aina: Yeah. There are many moments I think that each one of us really started to think about our performances. It’s like we stopped waiting for orders. ──Regarding the group’s performance, I think Aina had the strongest sense of crisis, but how about now? Aina: I still feel that we can’t stay the way we are. But lately I think that about myself rather than the members. I want to be overpowering. I want to be overpowering because I want to sing well as a singer, and as a group, as BiSH I want us to be overpowering, I want our music to be overpowering. Basically, I want to grow. ──As an artist. Aina: Yes. There are many times I think I’m no good, so I want to grow. But on the other hand, when I get praised, I want to absentmindedly be like, “Hooray! I got praised! I have that kind of talent too? Yay!â€. ──But you can’t? Aina: I can’t. But I decided that I will definitely believe what the people I trust say. This includes Iida-san (Iida Jinichiro, the interviewer and editor in chief of OTOTOY, he is also a musician himself) as well but I really want to accept what they say. ──Yeah you guys are a great team. Junnosuke-san and Sato-san as well as Avex’s team doesn’t praise people easily but they’ll say you’re good if you’re good. Aina: Yeah you’re right. I wish I was born with talent but it’s not like that so I want to accept that and work hard. 17. Here is the translation for Momoko and Watanabe's interview Sasori posted a few days ago. ――BiSH’s second album, 『THE GUERRiLLA BiSH〠ranked 5th when it came out on December 11. “Promise the Stars†became one of BiSH’s representative songs and in July you guys held a one-man live at Makuhari Event Hall, and BiSH even went on “Music Stationâ€. It was the song that gave BiSH the tailwind to do all that, what do you think about the effects? [Watanabe] More than we expected. The promotion period for the album was about a month, but there was a limited “guerrilla release†of the album on November 4th and 5th, for 299 yen. On the 5th they held a “guerrilla live†at Osaka Dotonbori on a boat. There was a lot of response after “Music Stationâ€, it seems like everything was a fit. [Momoko] The response is really good. The audience was even bigger than the previous album release events, and our twitter followers suddenly increased. [Watanabe] Don’t you get contacted by your ex-boyfriends? [Momoko] That would be a no (laughs). ――Guerrilla live and guerrilla release, what was your aim? [Watanabe] We thought it was important for fans to take action. For example, with the guerilla release, we were aiming for fans to be like “I can only buy it at Tower Records. I have to goâ€, so releasing the album for only 299 yen is a bit reckless when we have to keep copyright fees in mind, but everyone including the staff from Avex agreed that we would have a “make the best out of a bad bargain†mindset so that was good too. [Momoko] We were simply having fun. It’s not everyday that you get to hold a live on a boat, and even for the guerrilla release, I went on twitter and saw comments like “I couldn’t find it at â—‹â—‹. Where is it?†and people were having fun. ――Your performance on “Music Station†gathered a lot of attention. [Momoko] During the opening we did “Comăneci/Komanechiâ€. Watanabe-san came to our waiting room 1 hour before and made us practice it. When we were doing it while laughing, he was like “Do it with a straight faceâ€. [Watanabe] When they go on air, the camera work is already decided, so the only scene we can play with is when they come out. I was thinking about how they can do something funny without causing trouble to other people and so I made them do “Komanechi†(laughs). Because there’s no point of BiSH politely bowing like Keyakizaka46. [Momoko] People will simply be like, “Who are they?†(laughs). Since my solo part is in the second verse, I didn’t have a part in “Music Stationâ€, so my feelings of “This is the only place I can do something†was strong. At handshake events afterwards, many people told me “Your komanechi was goodâ€. ――Your slogan is “A punk band without instrumentsâ€. And the range of music is even wider than before. [Watanabe] Some idol groups keep releasing similar types of songs once they become popular, but I don’t want them to be like that. In America, some bands start off with edgy rock type music and grow into “American popâ€. We were also aiming for that kind of major feeling. [Momoko] For “SHARRâ€, my lyrics was approved, but when I first heard the demo, there were screams like “SHA~!â€, so I was like “What am I supposed to do with this?†and I wrote the lyrics completely ignoring the music. But if we have many different kinds of songs, we wouldn’t get tired of them when we’re singing, so it’s fun. [Watanabe] Don’t get tired of your own songs (laughs). ――BiSH’s activities started in January of 2015. What kind of visions did you have back then? [Watanabe] Honestly, we were pretty haphazard. Their real activities didn’t start until May, and I decided “They will hold a one-man live at Liquidroom in Decemberâ€. Our goal was to fill up a place with a capacity of 1000 people, but things went more smoothly than we thought, so the Liquidroom live was sold out. That was when we had our next view. Right now it’s difficult to get their tickets, so we have to think 2 years ahead, but there are scary things too. If a member has an adulterous relationship, there is a possibility that there would suddenly be no audiences. So really, be careful. [Momoko] ……Alright (laughs). ――When Watanabe-san managed BiS, they gained attention through extreme activities such as a nude music video. You’re taking a different stance with BiSH right? [Watanabe] With BiS, I feel like the things we did were too strange that we failed. Recently I realized that sticking your middle finger up is about the most you can do before it’s considered uncool. That’s the limit, so if we use violence or puke, we will be hated. With BiS, that may have been okay, but we thought we have to change things for BiSH. The komanechi I talked about earlier is one of those things. Like “Isn’t it cool for them to do komanechi at their first Music Station appearance?†(laughs). [Momoko] I also feel that he is trying to make us look cool with our outfits and music. We do pretty rough things at lives and in music videos, so when we meet fans, we’re sometimes told, “I thought you guys would be scarier. You guys are unexpectedly pretty girly†(laughs). ――Did you ever feel “I don’t want to do something like thisâ€ï¼Ÿ [Momoko] No. Watanabe-san has his own sense, and I think that has a big impact on BiSH, but I’ve never felt I hated it. Although last summer when Ayuni D joined and we filmed a music video for the song “Orchestraâ€, there were scenes that zoomed in on our faces and scenes where we were lip syncing, and I thought “Can we really do something so normal like this?†[Watanabe] Although we did create idol-like music videos during their indie days too (laughs). [Momoko] Did we really? (laughs). But it’s not like we do what Watanabe-san orders us to do. We’re not told “Act in this characterâ€, and we get freedom with our hairstyles too. I mean Ling Ling recently changed her hairstyle to dreads. You wouldn’t be able to do that in normal groups. [Watanabe] Even if we give them orders, they probably won’t listen so I thought it would be better to give them freedom to do what they want. I tell them, “If a member drags you guys down, it’s BiSH that’s gonna be hurtâ€, but otherwise, I think it’s better for them to do what they want as long as it’s socially acceptable. ――The freedom the members have probably gets tied up with BiSH’s edgy image. It was decided that BiSH would have a live at Kanagawa Yokohama Arena in May of 2018. I’m sure we can expect and even greater leap for them next year. [Watanabe] I want them to be an artist that becomes popular while keeping their edginess like Kuwata Keisuke-san. When the mass gets to know them, it can’t be helped that they get some degree of hate. I think the fan to anti ratio of 8:2 is the perfect balance. [Momoko] Our edginess is one of the good things about BiSH, so if you take that away, even if we become popular, it won’t be fun, and I’m sure we’ll only be a trend that lasts a certain period of time. We won’t last unless we have proper content, so I want to keep this style and accelerate things.
  18. Yeah I think Ling Ling changed her hair when WACK had their live. It seems like she's going for a doll kind of look Click here to view the Tweet
  19. I'll get working on it I'm almost done translating Aina's interview for Ototoy and a few of their lyrics. Momoko looks cute in that interview picture with Watanabe. She's so small and it reminds me of the "grandchild" image she was trying to get rid of lol.
  20. EMPiRE's first (super) long interview! Warning: I didn't proof-read yet so there may be spelling errors and my grammar might be all over the place since I went back to change some things when I realized there was a better word. ã€EMPiRE】Episode 1 EMPiRE First Interview “We don’t want to end as the sister group of our seniors in WACK†(Intro) A 4th group debuted under Production WACK, which is in charge of BiS, BiSH, GANG PARADE. They are called ,EMPiRE!! They were produced under the project "Project aW" which was paired up with Avex, and the team in charge, were those in charge of BiSH as well. There was an initial plan that required “10,000 followers on Twitter to unveil their facesâ€, and although they were struck by an incident, where followers were mysteriously being bought, they revealed their faces on September 28. Despite not being active yet, they created their official fanclub, “EMPIRE COREâ€. Special members, “ROYAL EMPIREâ€, who were chosen through auction, were sent 3 songs as a present before the members were revealed. On December 5, a casette tape with three songs, and the URL to download the songs for free were sent to them as well as the members of EMPiRE CORE. Those are some of the special tricks, not used by others. On November 23, the unveiling live happened in front of members of teh fanclub, and the girls finally took off their veils. The 4th article of the series following EMPiRE’s movements, will be the first long interview of EMPiRE (The other three series are interviews with their creators like Watanabe, Matsukuma, etc.). The group consists of 2 members who passed WACK’s training camp audition that took place in March of 2017, 2 members who failed the training camp audition, but passed the additional auditions, and one member who did not participate in the training camp but dreamed of becoming and idol. One group was born with these 5 members, EMPiRE. It was been about 9 months since the start of Project aW, and finally these 5 are officially stating their activites, what are their thoghts now? No need for tedious talk. I want you to hear what they have to say. -- ──November 23, 2017, at Morph-Tokyo in Roppongi, EMPiRE had an enveiling live. It was a live limited to members of the fanclub, “EMPiRE COREâ€, which is limited to 150 people and they had to pay an admission fee of 30,000 yen. How was your first stage? Everyone: It was fun!! YUiNA : We all didn’t get as nervous as we thought. ──I want to follow the chronological order. The four members who participated in “WACK Merged Audition†that started in March 28, 2017 and lasted for 5 nights and 6 daysm ended up joining EMPiRE. During the free event, “WACK EXHIBiTION†that took place at the plaza of Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, YU-Ki EMPiRE and YUKA EMPiRE were the only ones who passed the audition, I have the impression that the two of you were close since the training camp. YUKA : I cried on the first day of the training camp. And when that happened, YU-Ki was the one who listened to me. ──Why did you cry on the first day? YUKA : We had dance practice until about 2AM, but I wasn’t expecting such a schedule so I already wanted to go home on the first day. The system of dropping participants was also mentally suffering, the environment where I had to see everyone as a rival was painful. The first dance group was BiS, but Pour Lui-san and Aya Eight Prince-san said “If this continues, no one will pass†and “But I want everyone to pass†so they gave us carrot and stick so I was deeply touched as well. Also, honestly I didn’t like YU-Ki in the beginning (laughs). She seemed so aggressive and I thought I definitely didn’t want to get involved with her, but we were put in the same group. And even thought I thought all these things, she listened to me. I thought she was unexpectedly a good person (laughs). ──Your impression of her was the complete opposite. YUKA : I thought I definitely wouldn’t like her (laughs). ──YU-Ki, you’re being told that you seem aggressive, how are you like in reality? YU-Ki : I’m often told that as my first impression. Is it because of my face? Everyone: Yes (laughs). ──Hahaha. Now that I think about it, a type of person like YU-Ki is rare for WACK auditions, what made you want to audition? YU-Ki : WACK isn’t your typical idol right? There’s headbanging, there’s dives, the members write lyrics. I thought that was fun, so I sent my application. My sister liked BiSH, and she recommended them to me and I got into them. ──How about YUKA? YUKA : When I was in middle school, my senior from the same club was an idol wotaku, and she recommended BiSH to me and ever since then I got into WACK. And right around that time, she told me “There’s an audition so do you want to do it with me?†so as a joke, I was like “Sure†and when we sent the application, I was the only one that got in, and before I realized it, I was standing at the Red Brick Warehouse. ──What did you feel when you were told you passed? YUKA : When it was decided that I would take part in the training camp, I haven’t made up my mind yet. In the beginning, I felt uncertain, but after a while, I started thinking, “Since I got this far already, I want to win somethingâ€, so I was really happy.. ──MAYU EMPiRE was one of the 8 finalists, but your name wasn’t called when they were announcing who passed, and you left the stage. What were your thoughts as you left the stadium? MAYU : I was told “Please leave the stage†and the moment I left, I immediately understood that I was an outsider. Rather than being shocked that I got disqualified, I thought it was like a drama. ──Even if you say that, the feelings of disappointment must have been strong? MAYU : On that day, I did my best so I didn’t feel disappointed. Before participating in the training camp, I decided that I wouldn’t fake myself. Even if I did, I’m sure Watanabe-san will see through it, and even if I passed, things wouldn’t go well later on, so I decided I definitely wouldn’t. And since I had those feelings when I participated, even if I got dropped, I didn’t feel upset. ──YUiNA EMPiRE was dropped during the training camp before you were able to participate in the event at the Red Brick Warehouse. YUiNA : When I got dropped I was so disappointed that I couldn’t fall asleep from crying. The moment my name was called telling me I got dropped, I had nothing to do with the audition anymore, so it hurt to be in the same room as everyone else until I had to go home. I didn’t know how to face them. ──A month and a half after, an additional audition took place, and MAYU and YUiNA were able to pass. What made you want to participate again? MAYU : For me, after the training camp, I decided that if there was one more chance for me, I would take it no matter what. If you think about it, since I already got dropped it’s not likely (for her to pass), but even since I have nothing to lose, I decided to take part in it. I didn’t hesitate regarding that. YUiNA : Same for me, when I heard there was another audition, I felt like it wasn’t over yet. I couldn’t give up. So I applied, and decided I would work hard until I get to the audition place! But once I faced Watanabe-san, I got scared and I thought the situation was bad… I was nervous (laughs). ──MiDORiKO is the only member who did not take part in the training camp audition. Why did you decide to audition? MiDORiKO : I’ve been wanting to become an idol for a while now. But I couldn’t take a step forward. When I found out about this audition, I decided to do it, and I sent in my application an hour before the deadline. ──Were you watching the WACK training camp audition on Nico Live? MiDORiKO : I wasn’t watching it so after the merged audition was over, I watched it. By that time, I already knew everyone so I felt glad to be with everyone, and I sent MAYU-chan a LINE, saying “I’m glad I was able to be in the same group as youâ€. MAYU : Yeah you did. ──Do you remember the time you five met for the first time? YU-Ki : When I went to see the group, there were 2 faces I already knew, so I was like “Eh! Why are you here!?†(laughs). MiDORiKO’s first impression was different too. MiDORiKO : I didn’t talk. YU-Ki : I thought she was quiet and cute, but she was the complete opposite. She wasn’t quiet, she’s pretty loud (laughs). ──Hahaha. The five of you participated in BiSH’s free live, “TOKYO BiSH SHiNE3†on August 23 at Zepp Tokyo, and stood on stage for the first time with your face still covered. As soon as it was announced that you guys would reveal your face after you get 10,000 followers, you guys gained 5,000 followers in half a day. With so much attention, what were you feeling? MAYU : We were worried. Because it’s not like they followed us because they liked us right? They only followed us because they were curious, so I thought the situation was bad. Because the number of followers didn’t match up with me, who wasn’t able to do anything. YU-Ki : It’s all thanks to our seniors’ giant power right? Since we didn’t reveal our faces yet, we don’t even know what to tweet. And after some time, more and more people started tweeting things like “Isn’t EMPiRE’s relevance declining?â€. Seeing that, we didn’t know what to do, so there was an internal conflict there. ──There was also that incident where the number of YUiNA’s followers went up at once (laughs). YUiNA : As a prank, the followers were bought and I had at most 60,000 followers.…. I individually started blocking them, but when I went to sleep and woke up, there were more and that continued (bitter smile). And we ended up revealing our faces like that, but some people would say that it’s unfair for only me to upload selfies… ──I’m sure some people said you guys were sockpuppeting as a joke, how was your state of mind? YUiNA : Honestly, I thought I wouldn’t be the first one to reveal my face… MAYU : At that time, it wasn’t like we were blaming each other, but we didn’t want to trouble one another, so the atmosphere was really strange. ──On October 6th, your first music "EMPiRE is COMiNG" was revealed through free downloading… However it was Watanabe Junnosuke vocal version (laughs). Honestly, how did you feel about that? YU-Ki : Even for BiSH-san, Watanabe-san sang “Sparkâ€, so I thought it was funny. YUKA : Our fans got confused and we got replies like “Don’t you think everyone’s voice is low?†(laughs). YUiNA : Some people didn’t even realize Watanabe-san was singing. ──Hahaha. I heard your first recording was after observing GANG PARADE’s recording. How was your first recording? YUKA : I was so nervous that I was singing with my legs wide open. I kept telling myself to calm down. MAYU : Isn’t it like that now too? YUKA : No, I fixed it! I fixed it! (laughs) MiDORiKO : For me, I was worried about how outsiders would see me, like there was a lot of pressure because everyone thought that the one joining would be really good at singing. Honestly, I’m the worst singer in the group, so I was the only one who couldn’t sing along with the rhythm, so I was always crying during lessons. MAYU : When I first heard her sing, not only was she not singing along the rhythm, but she couldn’t even grasp the sound, so I was surprised, but she was working hard, and kept improving so I was amazed. MiDORiKO : We had assignments every week, and I was the only one who couldn’t do it. YUiNA : MAYU-chan practiced with you. MiDORiKO : She practiced with me until I was able to do it. ──The second song that was revealed, is "TOKYO MOONLiGHT"(※Also Watanabe Junnosuke vocal version) and this is written by MAYU. MAYU : When I first heard the sound source, I thought it was stylish. When I was writing the lyrics, I had an image of the weekend night after the rain. I put in euphonious phrases and words I heard in the demo. ──"Akarui Mirai (Bright Future)" was revealed for the first time during your live and BiSH’s Aina the End is in charge of the choreography. YUKA : She came to teach us, but I was so nervous! YU-Ki : Before the live, there were comments on twitter like “Since you made us wait so long, EMPiRE will surely show us something great right?†so there was pressure from that as well. YUiNA : Also because the annual fee of our fanclub is 30,000 yen. ──The members were in charge of answering the phone when you guys were accepting fanclub members. That was your first interaction with your fans, how was it? MiDORiKO : The members told me I have communication disorder, so they practiced with me until the last minute (laughs). YUKA : Since it was the first time speaking with the people who are supporting us, I was panicking (laughs) MAYU : “Since I’m paying 30,000 yen, I have high expectations, so EMPiRE seriously needs to work hardâ€. And I remember replying, “Thank you so much! We will work hard!†──And on November 23, your unveiling live happened. Since there was a span of about half a year since the project started and you guys had time, did that end up making you more nervous, or give you pressure? MAYU : I was sobbing like two days before. YUiNA : I was like “What happened?†but I was also close to throwing up…(laughs). YUKA : But once we got to the stadium, we have no choice but to have fun, so I was like “Let’s do this!â€. ──I saw a picture of you guys wrapping your arms around your shoulders, was that right before the live? YU-Ki : Yes. It was when we were deciding what we should say huddle up before the live. MAYU : So we just held hands and said, "EMPiRE is COMiNG──!" ──What was it like the moment you stood on stage in front of a large audience? MAYU : I actually felt the audience’s nervousness more. Like parents who come watch their kids during class (laughs). YUKA : There was a family-like feeling right? Everyone was nice. MAYU : The first song we performed is "EMPiRE is COMiNG". The choreographer said things should liven up at the chorus, so we approached the live with thoughts of relaxing the tension the audience has. ──On stage, it was announced that the generic name for EMPiRE’s fans would be “Agentâ€, and right after the live, there was a Checchi (instant camera) Party where you could communicate directly, and it really felt like your activities finally started. Your next live would be “WACK Fes.†taking place on December 8 at ZEPP DIVER CITY, it’s a pretty large stage. YUKA : It’s dangerous right? From a capacity of 150 people to 2,700 people. ──The staff in charge of EMPiRE also works with BiSH, do you guys relations with BiSH regarding your activities? YU-Ki : The members of BiSH give us souvenirs, and they also worry about us. YUKA : We were also able to go on their radio. ──How do you feel about the other WACK groups, BiS, and GANG PARADE? MAYU : After coming to this side of the stage, I was amazed once again that they were doing this so calmly. YU-Ki : We exist because of the three other groups, so I’m very thankful to our seniors. ──During your unveiling live, each member stated their resolution. YUKA stated “I want to say self-important things once we actually become important, so I want to make a large empire that makes everyone proud of being a part of ‘EMPiRE CORE’ for the rest of their lives†YUKA : I feel that there’s not much for me to say right now. It’s good to have goals, but we don’t even have capabilities so I think it’s to early to be like “We’ll definitely do this!â€. I don’t want to say “We want to do this†or “We want to do that†until we’re in a position to talk big. But even in this situation, Agents are paying lots of money to see us, so I want to work hard so they don’t regret it, and I want them to feel glad they joined. We won’t be accepting "EMPiRE CORE" until someone resigns their membership, so I want them to be proud of being in “EMPiRE COREâ€. ──YUiNA said “I want to be active without deciding on a limit†YUiNA : Then Watanabe-san was like “Then let’s set a trap so you don’t think about limitsâ€â€¦. ──What would you do if it was decided that you guys will run the 100km marathon like the other groups? MAYU : We’ll do it!! YUiNA : We’ll do all of it!! ──Only two people said they would do it (laughs). YUKA : I’m not good at marathons…. ──Since you experienced the training camp audition, don’t you think you can overcome most things? Except for MiDORiKO, who will be experiencing many things for the first time. YU-Ki : I would definitely want her to participate in the training camp (laughs). MiDORiKO : I want to!! Like I said during the live, I want to be able to experience the unusual dimension, so I want to take part in it. ──What kind of group do you want EMPiRE to become? YU-Ki : There are many idols with individuality, but we all said that we want to be a group that doesn’t get buried. YUiNA : We feel like we don’t want to end as just a sister group of our seniors of WACK. MAYU : I don’t have confidence in myself so I become condescending, saying things like “I wouldn’t be able to do it anyways…†so I want to throw those feelings away. I don’t know how to say it, but I want to show off (laughs). ──Is there something you want to try as EMPiRE? MAYU : I want to improve the accuracy of my lyrics. Like Momoko Gumi Company-san from BiSH, I want to be able to write lyrics that gets approved in the first try. MiDORiKO : I want to stand on stage a lot. And I want to be able to create dimension with the audience. YU-Ki : I want more people to get to know us. I want to work hard so that one day, I want us 5 to stand on a large stage. YUiNA : The lives we have planned currently are all thanks to our seniors, and the audience attend (because of them), so I want to be able to hold a live where many people gather to see just EMPiRE. I want to hold a live filled with people who like EMPiRE. YUKA : I also want more people to get to know us. In order for that to happen, instead of us being the only ones who calling out, we have to improve our capabilities so people who come to watch us spread the word saying “EMPiRE is greatâ€.
  21. Okay thank you. You bought the WACK album too? That's so cool. I just bought 2 songs, Plastic 2 Mercy and Lover Soul. And yeah I really don't know how to describe EMPiRE but I'm really looking forward to more of their songs and lives. If they get interviewed, I will translate it.
  22. Even during the lives EMPIRE doesn't have the 'crazy'-ish vibe that all the other groups have but I can't tell if it's just because they're new or they're just not that type. It could be the song too but I don't feel it too much in tokyo moonlight either. But anyways, It's good to get a better view of the dance. Is there any member that catches your eye? For me it was Midoriko because I like her styling lol but singing wise I like Mayu so far. (In the PV: [YUKA EMPiRE 0:29, YU-Ki EMPiRE 0:43, MAYU EMPiRE 0:57, MiDORiKO EMPiRE 1:04, YUiNA EMPiRE 2:29]) But for JAM can you tell who sings which parts? I could tell Momoko and Ayuni a little but some of the parts I'm just like "who is this?!" but I just realized since I didn't write the romaji for the lyrics it's difficult to point out which parts are right or wrong lol. The part I couldn't figure out was: 1. 0:48-0:52 - "Tamani homerarete sunao ni narenai no ga boku nan desu" 2. 1:12-1:23 - "Jibun no kachi doko ni aru no darou? Sagashite ita" 3. 1:35-1:57 - "Ima made chanto boku wa machigawazu ni irete imasu ka? Seikai nante nai no wa kitto wakatteru hazu dakedo" 4. 2:29-2:34 - "Jigou jitoku no on parade" The time is based on the mp3 I bought from ototoy. Not sure if you guys downloaded it or bought the CD or if you didn't listen to it yet. The album is great as always.
  23. I translated "My landscape", "JAM", and "SMACK baby SMACK". For "JAM" the lyrics/meaning is the main part so it was fairly easy to translate but for "My landscape" and "SMACK baby SMACK" it was difficult because a lot of it is kind of like a play on words or the important part is how it sounds and not exactly the meaning (Like OTNK where he tried to make it sounds like some parts are in English when it's in Japanese) so I'm not 100%. Also for "JAM" I couldn't figure out who was singing which lines for some of the parts so I had to guess. If you listened to the album and know where I'm wrong, please let me know because it's bothering me lol. It seems like Aina is only doing the back-up vocals. My landscape. -- JAM -- SMACK baby SMACK
  24. Yeah because of their black robes I thought they would go to the punk route for sure so it was a bit surprising but I like it. And usually one member in the group does some/all the choreography (BiSH - Aina, GANG PARADE - Maika, BiS - Kamiyasaki) but in their case Aina did it so it really seems like they're trying to try new things with this group.
