There was tweet on twitter by someone who works in video editing that showed how, in a QCNY clip, a trainees hair had been digitally changed from red to brown. They talked about how hard and how much times it takes to make a change like that. Many people have noted that all the trainees have brown or black hair now. So, at least on twitter, there's a feeling that the government censors cracked down on the show for allowing dyed hair and piercings. I wish we would get a real explanation from iqiy.

  2. My current coping strategy is believing that they'll upload the video on Friday. I'm still voting. Lot's of contestants are getting their letters and voting prizes. I don't understand how a contestant like Fu Hongyi (he's in my nine) can have fans voting every day to get the prizes and he's at the shirt and hat now but still rank really low while Xu Bingchao (I vote for him as well) is ranked in the 20s but maybe just received his doll. I'm assuming ranking is based more on vote buying.

    Good luck to everyone's picks.

Mr. Tyger's Tiger/Tyger MV has finally surpassed 100,000 views now. When I first watched it after Mr. Tyger's audition on QCYN the MV only has like 3,000 views.

Weirdly, almost none of the comments are about the members or QCYN. Most of them watched the MV after seeing the video of Mr.Tyger being abused by their management or because it was recommended by Youtube's algorithm. I feel like I'm that 1% of people that started watching the MV because of Jiayi/QCYN, lol.

I searched for Mr Tyger mvs around the time the first episode of QCYN aired because there was hype surrounding them.  They are so talented that I hope this show really boosts their visibility. The training video seemed so extreme and I hope that's not the norm in some companies.

I had some problems the first time I posted and then realized that Perrylou answered my question about the episode.

I wonder if we'll notice any changes? Good luck to everyone's picks.

  4. I suspect that it's less about getting more votes and more about government censors finding something they didn't like in the original edit. That was the reason for the first delay, So, if they're keeping the "each episode needs to be reviewed before posting" rule then we could see more delays in the future.

Thank you, Perrylou and Waycrisp1 for responding to my earlier post a while back.

Wang Yi is one of my favorites and I'm hoping the cultural icons will save him. IMO he should be number 1 for rap. Am I the only one that finds the blueberry doll prize creepy? Wang Yi was so cute in his video where he received his. I wish everyone could get at least a doll before they leave.

It looks like voting has ended.

  5. Hi, I've been lurking here since the first episode. Am I the only getting nervous about the upcoming position challenge. I feel this season the show is trying to distance its self from Broduce by making changes to the format like how only one group person ended up able to perform on stage.

Mnet is smart in that they always reuse songs that were successful on their shows. I'm convinced that they must get part of the royalties or something. For dance, 3 out of 4 mnet's song choices will have a youtube choreo version by 1million and Millenium dance studios. Rap will have at least one song from SMTM but this year they could easily pick a song from HSR as well, maybe even a song from Breakers. For those of you more familiar with iQuay, can you anticipate the song selections?

  6. I knew watching today's show was going to make me sad. When you watch the fan cams, you can see how much emotion the Fiction team put into their performance but I think, not being an upbeat dance song, hurt them. My hope is that vocal fans will somehow vote to save Jinseok and Chanbin. I love how their voices sound together. Hopefully, Sungho's fanbase will come through. (Sungho looked so cute and small today. He's grown on me and I'm not ready to say goodbye.) Be Mine was the better cover but I'm not ready to say goodbye to some people. I know people say additional votes don't really make a difference in elimination shows but U19 has been so volatile that anything could happen.

At this point in the competition, I'd be happy if the Mirotic team debuted with three more members. They were the strongest performance in my eyes but maybe I am bored with Growl covers.

  7. Am I the only one who had a hard time watching the Fake Love performance because the vocals were out of synch? I have no idea if the vocals were good or not due to the timing being messed up.

There does seem to be someone who occasionally likes to neg people.

Wumuti proved to everyone he can sing this episode. I'm more than happy with him in the top 9 right now. I'm worried about the Fiction team. I hope they kill it next episode.

There was a lot of backlash to him not dancing in the last performance. I think that, plus his growing popularity becoming a threat to others, led to some gatekeeping where other rap team members got votes just to push him down. There's a possibility enough people rose up in rankings that he ended up in the danger zone. unsure.png

Maybe his injury forced him to withdraw from the show due to health reasons. I don't know what's going to happen to the rap team after today's episode. I hope rappers like Jung Hyunjun and Kim Yejoon who have been carrying their teams vocal wise will last long enough to showcase more of their unique rap talents. I hope Kim Sungho is still ranked at the top of his team.

Performance team's version of Her and Shangri-la really showcased their strengths and weaknesses. I expected the dancers who also rap to come out stronger than they did. I actually surprised by how well some of the vocal team rapped. I really hope Jeong Wonbeom survives.

Does anyone have a list of the trainee's entertainment agencies? It seems like some "company stans" know where people are from but I haven't seen a list yet. I guess I want to know who is actually independent.

We're so close to eliminations today. I'm anxious about what's going to happen.

  9. The voting (esp in some teams) don't really make sense and it's very clear the show has its favorites but it's the same in all survival shows tbh. Even Produce 48 had very clear favorites and they managed to get them in the final line up while ditching trainees like Miyu, Miho, Miu, Moe Goto, Kaeun, etc that clearly had more following. As for the translator thing, I guess it's because most of them don't really need it? In PD48 most jp trainees couldn't speak Korean while here most of the foreign trainees can speak decently.

If you're frustrated with how things are now, then you might want to quit before the group debute since they'll still be managed by MBK. It's not so much using people that that video didn't get labeled or distributed well; it's just what MBK/Pokedol studio does. UNMes are still waiting for them to upload a couple UNB videos and that's nothing compared to how they managed Uni.T.  Please don't forget some of the issues that arose with Broduce when it came to food and bathroom privileges. I actually think the editing has been kind to Eddie or he knows how Korean variety shows work. Because they are only giving one or two storylines a week around a central character, it's really easy for others to slip through the cracks. Is that based around preferential treatment? Probably. If I remember correctly, Produce 48 had people boycotting because of preferential treatment. I think Asian Junkie covered the protests if you want to search for it on his site.

I don't feel that this is a perfect show. The editing has been a little strange. It's like every show now starts with the performance and then the rest is a flashback. You don't get to see as much time in the dorms or anything like you did in the Unit. I think it's because each episode has been centered around Judgement Day and a performance with at least one "underdog comes from behind" story arch. I keep seeing people say that the voting for the Rap group is based on looks. I don't know. Everyone usually gets mad a Korea for not voting for strong vocalists. I feel like this show does such a good job showcasing their talents that I'd be surprised if that happened. Unless something changes, I think at least one of the rappers I support will be eliminated so send me condolences.

  10. I've been so busy I haven't been able to comment in a long time and am a little intimidated too now because sometimes I type things only to realize later that it's not that well thought out. People handing out negs for petty reasons seems to be a thing now. You actually had to say something offensive before.

I really want to hear the Girls songs in HQ. If I imagine Cosmo's costuming as wind-up doll based, then I don't mind it. I ended up loving Cherry on Top which I didn't expect too because of reasons I will put in a spoiler. I really hope next round we end up with a girls track that is arranged more like Whose Your Momma and Jackpot. Oh, the staging and the backgrounds all look really cool for the upcoming performances. I'm assuming because it's the Unit that there will be glitter or confetti or streamers at the end of every stage.

I struggled with Cherry on Top becouse the chorus goes something like top top top put my cherry on top which can very easiily end up sounding like pop my cherry which has a very graphic sexual meaning in the US.

  11. I'm struggling so much keeping up with everything this come back and I ran out of upvotes so I couldn't give you more. Between the vlives, Rainz tv, and all the trailers I feel like we're being well fed. My worry is that somehow the company is going to mess up again and cause controversy like they did with the Makestar and the saesang.

  12. Kanto's attempt at aegyo when he was younger back then, he looked like a fresh-faced baby laugh.png His bottom and lower front teeth protruding out a little makes him look really cute.

    image.png

I kinda hope he doesn't get into the Top 9 now since his chances were slim anyway (slim as in he was never part of the solidly ranked in Top 9 but always hovering around the edges of it) and I think he'd fare much better under BNM after getting recognition for his rap skills in The Unit.

    Signing off with Kanto's wink

I know it probably won't happen, but I hope that BNM creates a new "Troy" with younger members closer to Kanto's age.

  13. It seems likely that the Unit B is going to be a performance-based group.  Both Rockhyun and Jeup remind me of Btob's Eunkwang.  If you look at the line distribution in Btob songs, Eunkwang is third or sometimes fourth in percentage. His voice is so distinctive and, because he usually sings part of the chorus, I think the listener remembers his voice. What I'm saying is that there need to be one or two other good singers in the final lineup to support whatever ace ends up making it at the end. I know many people on this forum agree and have picked solid vocalists; I personally would like to see an "official" top 9 from Korea with a few vocalists. I have my favorites but it doesn't have to be them.

That was misinformation. The two groups that won (Who's Your Mama and UR) will only have the top 3 contestants safe from elimination regardless of their position. I think it is actually smart that they did not reveal the whole list, it keeps it more suspense.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I appreciate it.

  14. Only top 3 contestants of the overall winning team. Which means only top 3 of UR and Who's Your Mama who'll get it.

So the Unit's Wikipedia page says, "The top 3 members of the winning category team for each gender will win a benefit of immunity from elimination in the 2nd elimination round, regardless of overall vote rankings of the show." Since this is what you've said in the past, I assumed it was correct. Did you get new information?

  15. I'm worried about Lee Geon. I hope he held steady at 20 or rose in the rankings. KBS will eliminate 18 from both B & G, right? Or is it only 9 this time?

(edited because I tried to embed some tweets but they didn't work.)

I don't think anyone has posted Kanto's Tiktok video yet

Z-Uk & Onejunn posted a song on vlive for Xmas

  16. I really enjoyed today's episode and was impressed by all of the performances. The Unit is chipping away at the old idol vs artist stereotype certain labels like to perpetuate and the idea that groups flop because the members are less talented.

If Unit G debutes with a concept like Whose you're Momma or Jackpot, I will be very happy.

    A slightly controversial question:

Do you think that Partition + Girls Run the World was too gay for the live audience? I keep hearing how conservative Korea is and I don't follow girl groups so I don't know if that stage might've been "too much" for a conservative audience. I personally really enjoyed it and thought it should've been closer vote-wise to Problem.

    Kanto deserved better.

  17. In this broadcast, I like their concept of them getting anonymous letters from other team members and tried to guess who the senders were. It tells us how their interactions are even if they're not in 1 team.

I haven't gotten to watch the full broadcast yet, but one of them that I remember is Donghyun getting a letter of someone, stating that even if they're never in 1 team together, he admires Donghyun and thinks Donghyun has this celebrity aura from the first time he saw him. He remembers when he watched Donghyun when he's still a kid, and wants to get along with Donghyun. Donghyun guessed the sender was Dongmyeong, since he remembers Dongmyeong saying pretty much the same thing on previous ep. I find this pretty sweet.

Another one is funny. Rayoon got a letter which said when Rayoon ate out with this guy, Rayoon said he's gonna treat him. But the guy Rayoon went with ended up paying for them instead because Rayoon forgot he's supposed to treat them lolol On top of that, their food was expensive. Rayoon guessed this guy is Kanto.

I love how we're able to discover their cross-interactions from their stories.

I loved how Kanto wanted to go out to eat with Rayoon again on Christmas and Rayoon was like no, another day, but not Christmas.

And how the green team figured out the letter was from Lee Geon and how so many of the other letters. Plus, thanking the Unit Chef by Girl's Black team. (I think it was them.) It really makes you want to try the food where they're dorming.

  18. I missed two of the girl teams so hopefully, the vlive gets rebroadcasted. The radio theme was very cute and it was such a nice way to end a hard week. The Unit keeps coming up with fun segments like the Crying Fist and now the Unit radio that it makes me not want to miss anything they broadcast. I love the feeling of camaraderie.

  19. I think the mentors included vocalist with the rappers because it's common to have a featured vocalist in a rap song. It increases the rang of what a group can do then. Also, it allows vocalist that might fade into a power vocal group to have a chance to have their moment in the sun.

I suspect that Bigflo's Euijin asked Hansol about his height and then made a joke about his own in order to break the ice by putting Hansol at ease. It seemed to work. It was a sweetheart thing to do. Now for a really important question: is Rockhyun then taller than both Feeldog and Euijin?

This thread and community means a lot to me so I wanted to repost here what I posted on twitter regarding Shinee's Junghyun.

"The “old†definition of triggering is when you’re presented with information/images/descriptions that result in deep psychological distress which can lead to self harm or suicidal thoughts. Not that deep psychological pain is anything but awful to deal with. Now the word’s meaning has been watered down and the impact is lost. If, because of the news, you need to call a friend or a hotline. It’s okay to feel that way. Sometimes it’s better to talk to someone anonymous. Please keep yourself safe.
If you’re somewhere that celebrates the Christmas holiday, I know it can already be a hard time of year. I hope the kpop community can set aside differences and fandoms to be there for one another, And especially our most vulnerable members like LGBTQ+ &/or those who are not currently living in a safe place. My heart hurts, not only for Jonghyun, but anyone dealing with that type of pain and exhaustion. And especially our most vulnerable members like LGBTQ+ &/or those who are not currently living in a safe place. You all are beautiful and amazing. The world needs you. Please let your friends know how much you care for them."

Someone else posted a video that cheers them up. I've liked Nucksal for a while and really hoped that one of the rap units would cover a song he was featured in. But alas that did not happen. Here is a Legit goons video. (Nucksal used to be a supporting charector in all their crazy videos.)

I have like 10% of an idea what they're rapping about. The video reminds me of my misspent highschool days.
This is one of my favorite Nucksal videos.

  20. After lurking here for weeks, I finally made an account as I got the last push I needed, which was Kijoong's solo cam! imhappyplz.png Thanks for sharing!

I cracked up at his dorky wink+lip bite+finger heart combo after getting spray painted! He's not my fave (been rooting for U-KISS Jun) but his charm is irresistible.

I agree with you on Seyong! DAMN. His aura here is just raepfaceplz.png

Too bad Jun's cam wasn't the version in which he unbuttons his shirt.

It was nicer when his A.C.E. necklace made an appearance.

    I still liked it though!

    Hi.
