KK was definitely different from the BEP trinity but I think it was their safest song (and also my least favorite although I still love it to death). KK was very successful since it was coming off the TT hype and was conventional enough for the general public to love easily. Although I think Signal was still very much a Twice song (I think those know this has listened to Twice's whole discography), it was the most different from all the other title tracks. As Twice is dubbed the current "nations gg", I think people overlook the fact that a lot of the public are just casual kpop fans that probably only listen to title tracks, what they hear on tv/cfs/radio/etc. and maybe a couple of bsides at most. This is why I think signal took a little longer to reach the success of the prior songs. I remember a lot of people early in the release when Signal was getting a lot of heat saying how they should've kept BEP as the main producer. I think they planned it that way. I think it's best for Twice to switch it up from time to time. They want an arsenal of producers/sounds. While it may seem less riskier and more logical, sticking with a similar sound over and over will kill a groups momentum faster than trying different things. It puts too much burden on one production team. Also people become too accustomed to that sound that if they ever want to try to switch it up, even if the song is good, people wont hear it favorably if they dont get what they're expecting. Signal already started with a bit of that hate, now imagine if BEP did 4-5 songs straight then JYP came out with signal... I predict the results would be bad. Despite what I said about changing things up, I do think so far BEP works great with Twice. Comparing to his other songs, you can see that these aren't just a bunch of songs compiled together and sold off to the highest bidder, but these are songs tailored to Twice's style/concept. Im 100% certain hell do the next comeback or a future one. Another person I'd like to see one day do a Twice song is Seventeen's production team (Bumzu/Woozi/etc). It seems Twice members are fond of SVT's music since theyve mentioned them a number on times on vlive. Also that Pretty U cover was awesome.

Saw their performance on M Countdown. Really liked the song/performance. It was really hard trying to find info on them until I got here from images. Hope to hear a studio version of both songs soon.

Maybe he still has ptsd from shipping Wonder Girls to America. It's not a big of a move since its just Japan but maybe he doesn't want Koreans to think Twice alienated them to leave to another market. If I was a k-once I think id be more than satisfied until an October comeback

You already answered yourself though in your own post, "they're under the control of JYP so they might have been told not to say anything". Pretty sure it was to avoid any unnecessary drama. When people are angry they tend to be irrational, start putting the blame on others, and lashing out. You do realize many people, even to this day put blame on Twice and to this day still attack JYP on his instagram blaming him on Wondergirls disbandment. I think the most important thing to think about is that they left on a positive note. Yeeun left JYP but she still came back to write a Twice song. That alone should show that there was no bad blood between artist and company.

Im pretty sure hes used to getting hate comments. He is the face of the company and anything bad that has happened in jype he is immediately blamed regardless if he was involved or not. Like im sure he still gets people bashing him about about wonder girls disbanding. I doubt he reads or pays attention to comments but i still left a positive remark on his instagram just to try to help balance out the hate. And if you did enjoy the song id encourage people here to do the same.

Hi all, longtime Twice fan, was with them since Sixteen and have been lurking this board for a long time, thanks for all the pics! I've been having multiple conversations with people on youtube about Signal and decided to finally join so I can post my thoughts here. Anyways I just want to say I despite all the hate and controversy, I loved Signal on first listen and wouldn't have it any other way. First i've seen people were complaining that this wasn't a Twice song, that they want Cheer up, TT etc. But Signal is very much a Twice song at heart. The harder hitting intro/outro reminds me of "Do It Again" (written by JYP). I always wanted more of this Twice. CY and Momo's verses were SOO good, I've always wanted Momo to rap more. It also reminded me of "Next page" (which was done by Kairos). The abrupt change of instrumentals, the feeling of constantly being pulled in different directions is what I loved about this song. It's one of my favorites. Lastly the overall EDM sound reminded me of TT You had very good points. Twice to me has always been about juxtaposition and unpredictability and that's what attracted me most about them. Their MV's like Ooh Ahh where are girls mixed in with zombies or in TT it was based in a haunted house; all concept unconventional for a "cute girl group". Their music is the same way; friendly sounding melodies with catchy hooks above harder hitting instrumentals. All their titles have been that way (except for KK which was a more straightforward/traditional kpop song). I've seen those comments that the intro was too long. I think their mistaken to think JY's verse is the start of the song when actually song starts with the MiMo raps. The DubChaeng intro finishes at around :18. If you listen to TT the actual song doesn't start until :17. It's not too long at all. But I guess it was too "edgy" for the casual listener/general public. You are totally right with the mix of the MiMo raps into the more mellow verses. It added to the song dynamics. The song is basically a rollercoaster. Your slowly are pulled up the hill during the intro then when the bass drops you're plunged down 100mph. During JY/CY verse to the NY/JH prechorus more instruments/layers are gradually added until you reach the start of the chorus when the production is again at its fullest. I think people were expecting a more obvious buildup into the chorus like the BEP trilogy had. I also had a theory on the member arrangements. I feel like this MV/song will also be promoted in Japan so when this was produced it had not only Korean but Japanese tastes in mind. MiMo had alot of lines/screen time Sana had chorus and center. It would only be right for Jline to get a a good portion of lines/screen time if this was going to be a JP release. Also if dubchaeng had the raplines it might have been too difficult for them to rap in Japanese since they are still learning the language. Overall I was very pleased with this release and I hope this doesn't stop them from continuing to push their sound. I hope JYP produces for them again, i know he probably won't produce a title track but I would be totally content with a bside. I really don't want them to be "safe". I don't want them to try to continually pursue songs that sound like TT, and always have Nayeon start the song, dubchaeng rapping, Jihyo doing the chorus and Mina doing the brdige. I'm not saying they should never do that but I'd like them to switch it up from time to time so avoid stagnation. But with that said I do predict that BEP will produce their October single. I also think well get one of those iconic Momo dance breaks b/c we're due for one.
