I agree with this. Conception had SO much potential. The teasers were AMAZING! Especially the background scores, they are A+. Honestly, I don't think having too many comebacks was a problem because in 2013 they had 4-5 comebacks and they sold more than Shangri La. More than 100k. Honestly it surprises me that DWK sold less than Dynamite given that the concept was so much more better and beautiful. What they could have done with the Conception was really make better MVs. If you look closely (I mean very closely) they had a plot in each of them, but nobody could have known that. If, starting from Dynamite, they had a cliff hanger as to why those guys destroyed Leo's wedding, and made that cliff hanger very obvious, people would have started to take interest in the story. Similarly, if every scene was utilized to capture the viewer, they could have made such great story telling music videos like they always have been. If only they had a better director, I feel that they could have hits irrespective of whether the songs were of general public taste. In fact, if utilized well, Fantasy could have been really great with a great MV. I don't think it is ever a great idea to have overnight popularity, because it might go down just as fast, but I want them to have a bit more until sasaeng fans start rolling in. I would hardly think that they would hit it big even now because Jellyfish will never do anything that capitalizes on the sudden public interest. Seeing that gugudan has a comeback lined up soon, we definitely know that vixx will not have a comeback until March atleast. And of course, they would never go to variety shows idk why... Either way, it's great that their performances are being acknowledged.

4) is the fact that they don't want to be popular. I always say this but they never capitalized on their hits (like Ken in that singing program, Hongbin on overwatch, when there was Hit the Stage N could have gone but he didn't, and absolutely NO variety experiences.) They went to that Asia Travel Program but they seemed so tired and sick then that they couldn't enjoy it properly. And no vixx tv either. They never released a special album like Love Equation also. Did we really get called annoying because we hyped vixx up? Really? idk would sones hype up vixx or tinkerbells lol Always hoping for the best. I think they are still in the Top 100 in Naver

The real problem is that they had so many opportunities but they didn't use them. Such a waste of potential. And you're right about the music part.

Alright guys, I am back again with the hopes of a good OH discussion. Today's topic is... Why is Vixx not popular enough? They should be really popular because: 1) They have everything a boygroup needs to have fans: Voice, visuals, dancers, stage presence, personality and dorkiness 2) They have some of the best stages in K-Pop and so this kind of hype should have happened years ago, maybe during Voodoo doll era. Why they aren't popular: 1) Not from a big idol company so they didn't have that initial advantage (not very convinced myself and Jelpi is a great company) 2) Jellyfish hates media playing. (And that should be the way IMO) 3) Produces non-mainstream music af. I was taken aback by Fantasy and The Closer. They sounded like something I've never heard before. Hates sticking to trends.Love Equation made them popular enough to the general public but they didn't take advantage of the situation and took a 9 month break before releasing another new type of sound - Chained Up, a risky move with a risky concept. 4) By looking at the number of opportunities they have missed, it doesn't look like they want to be popular. 5) They don't do stuff that pulls fans in like aegyo and whatever the trend is right now. What do most comments say in vixx videos: "I am not a stan/I am a fan of another group, but I love vixx and their stages and *insert 100 other things vixx is good at*." What do I think the public thinks about vixx: We are not worthy enough to be fans of vixx. (I really think that's the case, I don't see any other explanation) Please add your thoughts and hopefully my large post won't flop, so that I can be motivated to have meaningful discussions later also.

Did anybody see Hyuk in the ‘neowa hamkke issdamyeon eodideun’ part??? Please go and see it! He’s learning from the Cha leader and it was amazing and so subtle!!

Shangri la was #1 on the Melon sudden rise chart or something. Nevertheless this is Melon we’re talking about. We’re off to a great start

Happy New Year Starlights! May this year be amazing for Vixx and for us!! Judging by the reaction to their gayo performance, they are already off to a good start!!
-
Can I just say that that stage was really one of vixxs best stages?? I mean the intro was so so beautiful and of course dowonkyung is ethereal by itself. The members shots came out really well in the intro. Props to the camera work

OMG This is amazing!! Each song was rendered in a different way, I bloody loved it http://serviceapi.nmv.naver.com/flash/convertIframeTag.nhn?vid=50BDADFC26CDF961B02FF135E2C87F2554A6&outKey=V12858158de022b46b394198b8c5f07a0d6fbcb7c677e89a80233198b8c5f07a0d6fb&width=544&height=306 Plus anybody wants to talk about why Hyuk has the evil eye?? I'm so confused!!

So this Ken fansite 'ikenfly' was supposedly a sasaeng, and apparently scammed other Starlights for VIXX goods and didn't supply them and also dated Ken's brother wtf!! And now she dropped ken and owns a fan site for wanna one lol. All news from twitter, search for 'ikenfly' if you like.

Yup at this point I really don't care if they become more popular or not... in the beginning I looked at the views of various groups and based everything off just that parameter but now I'm okay. If they become public friendly we'll have to jam to LE 2.0, 3.0, 4.0. It's really interesting why Jelpi wasn't interested in the money and not produce more money making songs and let them do their own stuff... Also, in my opinion it's a good thing but not a lot of people "stream" VIXX videos in the sense of just clicking without watching. I don't do it, I watch mvs just because I want to and because of any other reason, I have a life too sometimes I guess
-
This is legendary LR where all songs are produced by them and only them. I will flip if I see Devine Channel's name on this one. I just hope there's no Devine Channel for the rest of VIXX's career
-
The problem with public friendly songs and anything popular in this world is that content has to cater to the lowest common denominator which means making music that is the trend rn that is extremely simple and (sorry for using the word) generic. I actually like it this way right now, they are at a good place. And if VIXX were to get public recognition, I'd like it if they get it through a drama/variety show rather than staling their music, which, at this point is a highly acquired taste.
-
The thread was becoming a little dead so I wanted to have some meaningful conversations. I agree that this is their time to bring in more fans, but they're definitely not catering to public taste (more about that later). My problem is that even their B-sides have so much work in them but people just don't recognize the quality. If there arises another situation like this but worse, they would still have no songs to take it easy like LE or GR8U and they would be exhausted af. Sometimes entertaining an audience is not about high quality performances but just easy going songs (in fact the bane of the industry today is that nobody cares about high quality and neither recognizes it). I get that VIXX performances and music are highly acquired tastes, but I really think they should come out with something like LE again. There are moments when Leo sings really well, especially their 2013-15 era but somehow he wants to sing live every time and that kinda damages his voice, plus good singing in K-Pop means high notes, and Leo does high notes even when he's tired and he ends up screaming them out. I really hope he doesn't damage his voice box even further. (Look at the difference between GR8U high not then and now). Starlights are the best, I stan Starlights as much as I stan VIXX. IDK why they chose to work with Devine Channel 3 times. Fantasy was great IMO but The Closer is a different story all together. When I first heard the song, I was like wtf. not because I didn't like it, but because I didn't understand it, it was so different and jarring and so crazy. In fact I'm sure that because I warmed up to The Closer, I LOVED Shangri-La. Another thing that is interesting is that Shangri-La doesn't really seem to have Asian elements in terms of the traditional melodies of Korean/East Asian music, but it sounded Asian because of the instrument, and if you leave that out, it was fated to become another The Closer. I really think that VIXX bought the song from DC, then decided on a concept and just to match that, some parts were added to make the song sound Asian. Either way I loved Shangri-La, it was like honey to my ears. And Devine Channel never makes public friendly songs, the last public friendly song we heard was probably Chained Up, Dynamite was new too. Next I'm hoping for Hwang Se Joon nim to save them from DC. I don't get why VIXX out of everyone chose DC even when they have so much creative freedom. Another point to ponder upon is why VIXX didn't use the formula that brought them so close to public recognition (Error, LE, Chained Up maybe even Dynamite??) like so many other groups who managed to gain fame by just following one general pattern for their music. I wonder how Jelpi's mind works, it's really interesting that they let go of fame to be creative as they want.
