Imo some people just aren't very talkative or don't know how to make conversation but still are interested by what you are saying or are at least listening attentively. I wouldn't get upset about it cause I don't know how to make conversation either when it's not a subject I'm very into. Sometimes people can talk to me for a while and I'd just answer with nods or agreeing "hm hm"s but my brain can not form full replies to give them on the moment even if it's very interesting.
