Yes, that's what I said. Glad to clear the confusion up for you. and @TiffanyHK: it means that the vkook posts are not similar to the Ten posts in their intent, so it is not a good comparison. They are different situations. -

It's not though because the former is in no way like the latter -

Shipping- The act of one wanting/supporting two individuals involved in a romantic relationship. If no one is trying to prove/disprove a romantic relationship or express any desire to see the two idols in question in such a relationship, IT IS NOT SHIPPING. What happened before surrounding the BDS/NCT posts were NOT shipping posts because they were not pushing a ship. Posting fanservice in and of itself is not a problem if it is clear you aren't doing so to present it as evidence or to draw conclusions and you are posting solely for appreciation. However, part of the risk of engaging in a public open forum is that sometimes people will not agree or have a problem with whatever you posted and will say something about it. Is it always fair? No, but that's the internet for you. The problem here is someone who willfully engages in behavior that has been explained very clearly as to why it is problematic and continues to be pressed when they get the same backlash for the same behavior. No one has to be in this thread and if they find it that negative or unwelcoming, exercise self care and just move on. You'll be better off. But let's stop shifting goalposts and stirring up faux-outrage. -

People have explained to you REPEATEDLY how many different ways what the problem with your posts are, so any negative reaction you will receive will be on you. So don't complain anymore when people continue to react negatively towards you for continuing to post things that you full well know other people find problematic. We can't stop you from posting, but no one needs to engage with them, or approve of them. -

There's this documentary on Netflix called "Do I Sound Gay?" that investigates the gay lisp/voice and why some people have it and some don't. This video is like a shortened version from the New York Times but features the guy who made the documentary and his two friends, one who sounds stereotypically gay but is straight and another who is gay but doesn't have gay voice. The documentary wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and had some interesting points. The main takeaway is that the way we speak and sound, is based on whoever we modeled our speech from when we were learning language, but we take social cues on what types of speech to emulate. In the case of the documentarian, he said that he didn't really "sound gay" until he came out and basically started speaking in a higher-pitch more effeminate manner as a way to signal being gay without announcing it (basically code-switching). It also touched on why "sounding gay" is coded as negative including how male villains are often feminized to indicate their conniving wickedness and speak in a way very similar to gay men (see HIM from Powerpuff Girls, Jafar from Aladdin, Scar in Lion King, etc.). Anyway, I definitely think gay voice/lisp is a thing. I don't really buy into gay face. -

Girl, either you start dropping receipts and start @ names and posts, or drop this petty BS argument. Stop being passive aggressive and start calling these fetishizers out as Exhibits A-Z so we can once and for all know exactly what behavior is not acceptable. If you aren't going to call anybody specifically out to provide any evidence to support your claim concretely, then what are you doing, what is the objective? I'm tired of people who don't contribute otherwise thread but lurk waiting for some troll or somebody to say or post the wrong thing to stir up some mess for no reason. So again, pull out the receipts or drop it. -

This girl aptly titled this video NCTwinks, and that is now what I refer to them as because it is so accurate. You wanna know who else post shirt-lift mirror selfies? "Straight-acting" dudes on Grindr/Jack'd/Scruff/whatever gay dating app is hot right now. And maybe all these girls hang around him because he's nice. But hey, who am I to go against the authority and wisdom of rando anonymous users on the internet . -

I could see it with large groups, especially NCT as they are split up in multiple dorms and seem to pretty regularly rotate roommates, so I don't think they spend that much time all together leading some to be closer than others. Going back to that TaeTen VLive where Ten went on that rant about being labelled "weird" by the other members, the way Taeyong asked who else calls him weird made it seem like he was unaware that others thought Ten was "weird" in the way that he had referred to Ten's tastes as "weird" (if any of that makes sense). So I believe if Ten is out, it's to Johnny and Taeyong, maybe Jungwoo and Lucas, but not the others, just based on their dynamics. I think it is the same in The Boyz where I think Kevin and Jacob would be out to each other and possibly to Eric too because being brought up in major progressive American/Canadian cities, there are more cultural similarities and a resulting closeness that I don't feel is the same with the Korean members. But EXO seems really close and I think if Sehun was going to let half of the group know, the others probably do too. It's a lot harder to keep a secret like that the more people know especially in a tight knit group. And if you have your significantly older boyfriend hanging around, that draws more attention. I could also see it causing tension. I think groups like Shinee and NU'EST definitely know who isn't straight because they are really close, lived together for a long time and have made subtle hints about the suspected members. -

Exactly, especially trying to peg someone as pan, because one needs to clearly articulate that gender identity either doesn't matter or they are attracted to people outside of the gender binary. Like what has Doyoung ever said or done that suggests that? Also using bi/pan as a catchall lowkey reinforces the stereotype of just being DTF with anyone. Like people still have standards as to what they find attractive in another person. I also want to reinforce that despite all the queerbaiting and fan-service, compulsory heterosexuality is still a thing and is still the privileged position, so at some level an idol will have to convey that to some extent to maintain their career. That's why I think the burden of proof for calling someone bi or pan is higher because you really have to discern if there is a genuine attraction/interest in the opposite sex or not. -

Can people stop using bi/pan as a catchall for people they aren't sure about, seem "a little gay," are masculine/not totally flaming, or are probably gay (or straight) but they still want to imagine they have a chance with them? HOW?! Have they met white frat boys? Who are these people? It's confusing for native speakers too. I think the term is intentionally vague so people can downplay or build up whatever the situation is/was based on the context. It also varies by age, where younger people in like middle school and high school would consider a 3 month fling seriously "dating," but someone older would consider it dating in the sense that "we went on a handful of dates but it wasn't serious." Usually people in their 20s+ would just say they have a boyfriend/girlfriend/partner which implies a serious long-term relationship and anything less serious as "this person I was seeing" or "hookup" or "we had a thing." -

Gurl, you better be turning this in for extra credit and getting an A in that stats class! I didn't have the time to expand on everyone in NCT in my last comment, but I will because there can be no straight consensus for Winwin. Will step up to bat for the same team: Ten Jungwoo Taeyong Jaehyun Jaemin Winwin (boy knows how to use his charms to manipulate a man, he got practice in somewhere) Could but needs more observation: Johnny Mark Haechan Jeno Lucas Nah: Doyoung Taeil Yuta Jisung No opinion because I don't pay attention to them: Renjun Chenle Kun -

You know what would make these pictures (especially the Mark ones) really funny? The hook for Mad City on loop. Just the thought has me dying, lmao. -

My opinions on NCT don't differ too much from others, but I'm firmly in the "Taeyong is GAY" camp; IMO, when you have to reach back 15 years to the 4th grade to talk about your last crush on a girl, you're really not interested in the opposite sex. Jaehyun screams gay, but most likely to be in a hetero dating scandal and marry a woman to maintain his image and career, despite the flirting he does with men. In addition, on a shallower note, I've randomly seen some of those compilation videos of him speaking English, and he pings off the charts. Mark comes off very conflicted which I think could be for a variety of reasons given his background so he could go either way. I strongly believe Kevin is gay and is trying to be lowkey about it, but his fervent Beyonce stanning and that Youtube channel give it away (in one Q&A video they were going through their most listened songs and #1 for him was Blow by Beyonce . Speaks for itself). Jacob pings too and was soooo lovestruck when he met Sam Kim. I also side eye Eric because he is really clingy with Juyeon and seems to like male attention. If Chanhee and Changmin are New and Q (don't know which one is which) then I agree with them too. Everyone else doesn't really ping for me but they seem pretty supportive considering they seemed to be trying to set Jacob and Sam up on a date that whole episode. -

From that video posted earlier with the gay Korean guy talking about dating girls out of denial of his sexuality, I started watching a bunch of gay Korean YouTubers talking about their experiences and the culture and doing man on the street interviews with average people, and they basically debunk all of those "it's just the culture, stop pushing your Western values on them!!!1!11" comebacks these pressed fangirls and the likes of Edward Avila make. -

Somebody said that in here a while back (I think it was more like 40% gay/60% straight), I think they saw it on Reddit? I'd believe it. There were 101 trainees and you could easily name 20 who ping as not straight just from the ones who got actual screentime, throw in another 20 out of the 60 that didn't and that's 40% right there. -

Yeah I know what it means and what the song is about, which is why I feel the same way you do, that they were talking to something inappropriate but not really having to do with his sexuality. The whole vlive just reinforced that Ten is not innocent and probably has zero-filter with the rest of the group. It also showed me that he and Taeyong have a much closer PLATONIC relationship than I thought; before it seemed kinda awkward. I really want to see a Ten and Johnny one in English, there could be some real gems there since Ten is about as proficient in English as a native speaker. -

Watched the whole thing and there were some interesting subtle moments. After Ten said "blank blank" he sang Nega Dola to give Taeyong a hint at what he was getting at, but that song isn't really inappropriate so must be some inside thing between them. But the subtext was definitely that Ten is "weird" in an "out there and wild" kinda way. I thought the part starting around 46:20 was interesting too in that Taeyong seemed to know something about Ten and England, that Ten diverted from. Reminded me of the iconic Bangkok moment when his teacher spilled the tea everyone already knew and they had to act surprised. -

Jungwoo was getting a little too close to overtaking him on the throne, so he had to up the ante to remind us who really is at the top of the NCT Gay Pyramid. ...and get back to you. -

Yeah I agree that we can cut down with the NCT appreciation gifs, but I also especially agree with the bolded. I've been trying to dig up info on VAV since someone talked about that rumor (which from what I've seen just sounds like some anti concocted mess) and I've been watching more of The Boyz to talk about them more, and it takes a lot of time an effort to find subbed content (especially for less popular groups) to do the type of analysis people come here for. If you just want to sit back and sip tea without offering up any, at least give people a lead or something to look into. I had no real expectations that there would be any gay content so I'm not really disappointed or upset, but like why are they purposely doing these homoerotic teasers for songs that like Boss and the Dream song which aren't even sexual? I honestly don't understand anything about how SM is handling this group and who they are even trying to appeal to, but that is like a whole other topic for conversation. Still cannot figure out what is the deal where Jaehyun and Taeyong are concerned. The interactions they had before on camera weren't any different from what they do and play up with other members so I don't think they have a discomfort with being shipped in general, but just with each other. I also find it interesting that as time has gone on, Taeyong has loosened up and shown more aspects of his personality, while Jaehyun seems like he's become more concerned with maintaining a particular image and closed off. That paper scroll message Taeyong wrote to Jaehyun is also noteworthy because there was so much angst to describe a friendship, especially when you're trying to downplay your closeness otherwise. -

Everytime I look at Jungwoo I'm like "damn he's Taemin's clone" and then I remember that tweet about how Taemin will "always make us feel insecure" and "draw us deeper into homosexuality" or some ish, and NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE! He's the more potent Taemin! -

Well with this groups track record, I'm not fully writing him off. Remember how everyone thought Taeyong was the hetero fuckboi of the group when they first debuted, and look how that turned out... -

I try to sidestep these episodes of selective outrage, but when you post stuff like this: ...you can't then get indignant and act persecuted when you get introduced to the kettle. Also am not here for people purposely misrepresenting and shifting the goalposts to try to make some point. As has been explained, those teasers featuring the two members of the group with the largest consensus on being believed to be gay in a video with homoerotic undertones (gay-baiting marketing and all) with witty JOKE comments =/= shipping. By definition shipping is wishing/pushing/being invested in two people together in a romantic relationship. No one was shipping TaeTen or reading anything into those videos to support them as a pairing. It's disingenuous to insist otherwise.
