True. In MY opinion, now, I'd say that Whitney was a coloratura lyric mezzo with this steely quality... just wondering, I think that Josias could help with this I know, but endurance and big power in the highest registers are features of a spinto too.

Like, Spintos have immense power and endurance in their voice, that's why Sohyang can belt in the 6th octave, however Whitney couldn't belt this high, by her G5s you can tell, that was her limit. (but I know, range isn't used to decide a voice type). Minnie Riperton? xD

I don't think that Whitney was a real Coloratura, and Whitney turned a lyric mezzo too, right?(well, Whitney never had a Spinto range tho) But compare a dramatic coloratura with a dramatic in pop music, Cheryl Lynn and Monica Naranjo, Cheryl has the power, but she's way brighter and lighter than Monica and even Patti... Because some voices can't do complex ornamentation, say that a vocalist is better than other because of a coloratura is the same to say that a dramatic is better than a lyric because this one has less power.
