The show will go on for 8 hours this year and will be streamed for free on ABEMA

Kanako said in a recent article that she was excited that more of her classmates would appear this year (Suzuki Airi and a member of Bullet Train both attended the same high school class as Kanako).

  2. I saw the posts about Wendy on the previous page, and the thumbnail and title of the Youtube video annoyed me so much I wanted to write a post here.

Let me start by saying that I think cosmetic surgery is a complex topic, and there are a lot of topics I find are valuable and even necessary to discuss, especially in the context of entertainment industries like K-POP. But with this post I want to focus on criticism of plastic surgery, and especially comments pertaining to individuals who have had "bad" surgery.

I'm not a big fan of plastic surgery for many reasons, and I usually think it's unnecessary in general. Sometimes (often) the result is worse than what was before, either by my own tastes or because I lose my familiarity with a face when they change their looks. For instance when one of my faves had surgery her face changed drastically and it almost felt like it was a different person for a while as I did not recognize her. It removes some familiarity, so I think it should be done with extreme caution. But in the end, whether I think the new looks are an improvement or not is only my opinion - and it is completely worthless

What really matters is the opinion of the person who had the surgery. If they are happy, then it's a successful surgery. This is a bit simplified as there could be complications, and it might have been better tackling the underlying insecurity than through a procedure. But what I want to say is that you should be very careful when commenting on someone's surgery (this thread has been good with that from what I can see). I want to say that you shouldn't comment negatively about a surgery or someone's looks at all, but it's a bit more complicated than that due to image issues that I hoped to skip in this post. So censorship isn't the answer, but comments on surgeries should be made in good faith and preferably not focus on individuals.

All that was to say that the YT video about Wendy seems disgusting (I won't watch it). Her looks are none of our business, and should not be exploited for some fake concern to get clicks on a video.

PS: I think "negative" comments have an important place. For one it's a forum, where we share our opinions, so it is healthy. But it is also good to highlight and discuss the culture surrounding the entertainment industry and how it affects both entertainers ("products") and consumers (us). Entertainers/influencers, idols in this case, are smothered by brutal beauty standards, and these unrealistic beauty standards are transmitted to the consumers. This can create really messed up image issues among many. This is especially true for young women, even if men and older women are also affected. One might think that they look terrible compared to the unachievable standards they see on SNS and think that the solution is to get plastic surgery. By bringing up the risks inherent to surgery, both the physical risk and not being satisfied with the result, we can mitigate that slightly. So by all means, be critical, but don't be mean or make any personal attacks.

PSS: The post was also inspired by a news story about influencers who were paid to have surgeries and advertise them to their followers. They had horrible side-effects but were forced by their contracts to promote the clinics. Meanwhile their followers were fooled, considered themselves inferior and were compelled to have similar surgeries. All to fit some beauty ideal.

PSSS: I apologize if this post is slightly incoherent, it became longer than expected.
