  1. Maybe G.I. will someday be relevant enough to have a place on the vocal chart TT.TT Tier 2 sounds about right to me.
  2. Have I posted this yet? Sorry if I have lol. Thoughts?
  3. That's the biggest complaint I hear about Ailee, that she's never developed her own style. That's why I never got super into Ailee. She's an amazing singer but there's nothing particularly unique about her.
  4. I just can't respect her knowing what she did to her voice. I don't mind people with tones I don't like if they're healthy.
  5. If only it didn't have Idina Menzel......
  6. LOLOL yes he is! He pulled a Miley Cyrus and it's AMAZINGLY UNCOMFORTABLE IN THE BEST WAY! I mean, I don't really know how else to explain it to you. He's not singing in his mask basically. I can't hit anything better in the morning unless I've warmed up lol. Most people I know sound worse in the morning than they do later in the day even if they have warmed up. Kristin Chenoweth is ridiculous. I'm always blown away by her vocally and by her acting.
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzBFU5XqGiY Is this one better? It's the same song.
  8. Right! I should probably explain that lol. So let's take those videos that were posted before so I don't have to dig through youtube. I feel like he swallows his sound more than he needs to. Look at the first video at immortal song and the second video for time. In the beginning of the first video, he has this light tone (also not supported and breathy, but I noticed it's a thing you do in kpop ballads) but in the second video he sings around the same range but suddenly the sound is much darker. It's a sound you hear in japanese singers a lot (and trot I think). He could be even more resonant if he just stopped pushing all of his vowels back. He doesn't have that problem as much when he does those high belts, which is what most people here focus on (but he strains on those too, just look at his neck). Also if you look at his lowest notes in the second video, I don't know if it's another style thing but it sounds like he's straining to hit them which is why they sound so feeble. He also has gone flat at least one time in every live performance I've heard him do. Going flat pretty much always means you're doing something wrong. I'll do a top ten (in no particular order) once my music history exam is over with lol
  9. Haha I don't think sunggyu is better than him by any means, but I think putting him in the top ten male vocalists is a bit much.
  10. I think I'm in the minority here, I don't think woohyun is as good as everyone here makes him out to be. But perhaps I'm focused on different things.
  11. I'll have to look it up. I feel like smoky girl is bleh because MBLAQ doesn't DO anything with it. With the exception of G.O, they don't really have that R&B soul. I was mostly looking at the composition of the song. It builds really well.
  12. So many posts! Squatting helps engage the muscles in your lower body which improves breath control, but I think what it really helps with is tricking your brain into not reaching for a high note. Somehow the act of moving down physically makes your brain think your voice is also moving down so you don't psyc yourself out. Clearly an A4 is not actually very high for you so you can't think of it that way. Question, do you do lip trills(/know what lip trills are)? It's impossible to do those exercises without having proper breath support, so when you try them notice how it feels and what your body is doing and apply it. It's a misconception that head voice can't be loud (just look at opera singers). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I hear that Taemin uses a lot of head voice in his mix. Once you get the sound in a comfortable heady space, try bringing the sound forward and bright in the mask. Record yourself several times first doing just head and then when you've made it brighter. It's going to sound awful to you when you sing it, but it likely will sound better in the recording. My advice is don't worry about vocal fach if you're singing pop music. It's not important. (Also you can never be sure until you're 30) Sing what feels good in your voice and what you can sing with good technique.
  13. From what I understand, operatic head voice is exactly the same as pop head voice, just in opera you can't tell when a singer's head voice begins and ends because we're taught to smooth over the transition. Also while most pop singers tend to bring the chest voice up as much as possible, classical singers tend to bring the head voice down. Woo validation! I know he has a bunch of flaws, but I always thought he was surprisingly good for a singer in a hip hop group. Have you tried singing it in head voice then mixing it as you go? Also not thinking of the note as high helps a lot. Think down with your support, not up with the note. Sometimes squatting while you start singing it helps reinforce that. And don't be afraid to take a big breath. Sure, you need to learn how to use the breath effectively and to breathe as low and relaxed as possible, but in the long run it's better to not run out of breath.
  14. So since it's three days before Block B's comeback, I thought it would be a good idea to hear what you guys thing of Taeil!
  15. Ah, right. I do remember seeing that somewhere. Well I just know subdued club songs are really difficult to pull off well, and I thought Zion.T did just that.
  16. Lol gotcha. Who is Chung? I can see someone not LIKING the song, but you have to appreciate how well it's composed. My twitter is ClaireDuLune but I never use it. I literally have two tweets lol.
  17. Yeah, Zion.T is the shit. We have really similar tastes I've noticed haha. This song is currently my ringtone lol. (Just call me babay....) I really like Ra.D but I haven't listened to any Jooyoung. Part of the appeal of Zion.T is that I love his work as a composer. Smoky girl was a great song whether you like MBLAQ or not.
  18. Eh, I just figure kpop groups are selling more than just music. Otherwise they wouldn't have members that are literally identified as visuals. Or main dancers for that matter.
  19. BEG is yellow and black, but mostly gold is used instead of strait up yellow. And I doubt everlastings are really going to care that much, I sure don't. Anyway, I just thought I'd stop by in celebration of pre-ordering the new mini-album! SO PUMPED!
  20. There were more options in the albums lol. And I do love Block B! Mostly because I'm a hip hop fan and they put out the best idol hip hop tracks. Zico's raw talent for the genre is actually ridiculous. So not for their vocals lol. Contrary to my presence on this thread, I don't actually care that much how "good" the vocalists are when I listen to kpop songs. Oh, neat! I wasn't sure if the sound was produced differently or anything.
  21. Have you heard the country/folk collaboration album he did with Alison Krauss? I've been wondering about this too. I know pop singers don't mix as much as classical singers and have more distinct head, middle, and chest registers. Also when a pop singer switches to head voice it sounds more soft and floaty, which is a sound bel canto opera singers stay away from but is heard quite often among opera singers who sing baroque music and earlier operas.
