you make valid points here that i think some users of the tweets i saw on my tl should look at and consider tbh, i watched the trailer, and the river just reminded me of txt temptation as well.. like the photoshoot and promo pics for that.. i’m not sure about what taemins song is about other than fans saying it’s also about sex so i did see some lyons talking about how they’re using the same theme and “stealing from small businesses” but i personally don’t see anything other than maybe taking off a white shirt, which is nothing much.. idk i think i’d have to see the mv when it comes out to see if it’s really that similar but i’ve only been casually scrolling and seeing armys and lyons everywhere “what triggered this trend” i have two answers for this one is that once where your eyes linger happened, we suddenly had a roll out of k-bls like mr heart followed, and a few others idols started to take part but they were usually either former, unpopular, forgotten ones like wish you had someone from myname, imfact etc. then semantic error hit big, even though at the time seoham and jaechan were considered the same type of idols that usually get cast cause dongkiz were nugu, knk was dungeoned.. but it hit big and gave dongkiz, now DKZ, many more opportunities. from 1k to 100k, events they’d never have been invited to before.. so now, other companies have seen that BL can actually do something for the group so slowly omega x, sf9 zuho, b1a4 gongchan, bae173 jimin, more idols participated in things like this now my thoughts on the drama, which i still haven’t finished, i have one episode left, but it’s hard to watch even though it only would take like less than 2 hours to fully finish firstly, mill’s acting. i can’t immerse myself in the story because it feels like he’s speaking in a higher tone than his real voice. i feel like he’s adding some preppiness to his voice to fit the type of character he’s playing, but it doesn’t feel authentic. so i keep zoning out nine, on the other hand, feels like he’s in his element, and i can believe his character is into eden. however, no matter how convincing jihoon can be, mill acting as eden just pops the bubble it’s kind of like with colour rush whereby the other guy was better at acting and hyunjun was giving nothing and just looked uncomfortable i feel the same is happening here where they’re kinda clashing junji and rie were basically nonexistent in this show, i had forgot they were there since we didn’t see them again for many episodes later so not much to comment on yoojung fit his character storyline well. his english lines were delivered awkwardly but understandable because he’s not fluent.. idk why he randomly spoke english for that one scene and mill/eden is just speaking back in korean and then later he just goes back to korean like what was the point i think yoojung was the best tbh, even in his solo mvs and kb’s, i think his acting was good even back there so in this drama, i think he did well KB was okay. some of it was cringe like evil maniacal laugh out of nowhere looked quite awkward probably because it is awkward to just start the scene with laughing evily but he was okay so it’s just disappointing for mill because he’s the main character which is the driving force of a story, so if it’s not that good, then it’s going to affect the series as a whole furthermore, the kiss was not impressive. sure, two members kissing is shocking but it was merely a kiss. it’s more touching lips than kissing people saying suddenly BUB is better than ASTCO (a shoulder to cry on) because these two “actually kissed” .. merely.. where i disagree because i feel like that’s disregarding everything astco gave us with their chemistry, visuals (not expert on low/high budget but it looked decent) and storyline only thing with astco is the time-skip which cuts some of the essential parts of bl series like proper confession scene.. they kinda just skipped over the part where we see the one that isn’t jaehan’s feelings.. or something like that, i know something important was glossed over but honestly i’d take a compelling story with chemistry, budget and good acting with no kiss than a touch of lips with everything else lacking… not that bub is that bad either.. it just could be better.. and the storyline itself is so meta .. but i could get past that and become thoroughly immersed if it was supported by better acting they all have their hairstyles from seoul drift era so i honestly don’t think they took a super long time to put this project together.. lol sometimes small things really bring together a series like love class 2 (where the budget was lower cause like boom mics in several shots ) so something like kissing scenes can be overlooked (main couple was the culprit with subpar kiss) famously, cherry magic doesn’t have one, stay with me doesn’t, if i thought about it, i could think about more but celebrating the members kissing when it’s not even like a good attempt like jaechan and seoham who deserve their flowers for that.. not anyone in particular, but it just seems so.. like undeserved sure, it’s shocking, but it’s nothing revolutionary because if we can’t get an impactful, real, kiss scene then i’d rather not have a fake or lacklustre one, or one at all as for the pride flags, ofc people brought many flags for them to hold but i never take idols taking flags to mean anything because it means nothing substantial in that context. they might feel like it’s worse to reject it, they might do it but have contrasting beliefs.. not these guys in particular but just any idol on a stage like there’s been other groups who do a lot of fanservice on stage but later we find out something about them so it just doesn’t mean anything to me this was way longer than i thought but i’ve not actually discussed my thoughts on bub online so i had a lot to say

Speaking of OnlyOneOf, I watched Bump Up Business so I'll quickly review. Nine & Mill did kiss mouth-to-mouth like no camera tricks deadass kissed so I give props for that but it shouldn't have been the best part lol. The plot is so confusing and the relationship arc was unsatisfying.. by the end of it I felt like I'd watched the extended cut of a cheesy porn intro. There was so much potential It's crazy how quickly BL in Korea went from 0-100 though. If you told me a couple years ago that multiple idols would be starring in gay romance dramas I'd never believe it. The popularity of Semantic Error alone was unbelievable. What triggered this trend? & While I'm here, I saw pics on Pinterest of OOO at their last tour holding up every single pride flag known to man so here's a few

Thanks for the context re: BLs. I still wonder what changed in Korea for such a switch-up to happen but it didn't come overnight. I hope this translates in some way to greater acceptance for LGBTQ as the years and years go on. To speak on flags, yeah I recommend everybody take it with a grain of salt. If an idol is an ally in other ways I think it's cute to see their support extend to fanservice like that but some companies forbid idols from holding flags or encourage it based on what image they're going for. I imagine OOO were encouraged. But it tickles me that they have every niche brand of queer within their fanbase, myself included. As for Bump Up Business, I haven't watched any other BLs so maybe that's why the kiss was a little shocking to me. Literally last night tho I started getting into ZB1 and found out Jiwoong did BL work and sheesh he and that other guy made out fr. Idk about the emotional payoff of that kiss (BUB had none lol) bcs I only saw it out of context but I can see now why BUB's kiss scene isn't so impressive. Nine was great, I think he has potential for acting if he wants to pursue it. And Kyubin I think he could do better with better material. I don't remember when it happened in the show so I don't want to spoil it for you but there's a scene where he gets emotional and I thought he pulled it off pretty well, I think he has potential too. Mill came off like he was playing much younger than he is? And not just younger than Nine but he was very naive and bubbly like a little kid so it was kinda strange and def took me out of it.

well that's a very silly comparison to make because ooo's hate for libido came from the choreography and the song title not the fact that it had guys in a river. Also because ooo were a new group most people assumed they didn't have power over the gay/sexual concept and were just doing it for noise marketing whereas Taemin has a more than 10 year career and obviously has a much larger degree of creative control.

For a conversative country this kind of visibility is— maybe not baby steps, but maybe crawling in the right direction, maybe... hopefully. Media influences people's perception of reality, so positive (meaning not directly homophobic) depictions of gay people, even if its flawed, is at least better than nothing imo
