I'm back again with another comment only tangentially related to the thread lol the absolutely infamous Sojang posted a clip of Enhypen Sunoo's recent vlog and captioned it "How is it different from Queen Dong-ju’s vlog?" referring to Queen Dong-ju (kinda nsfw!) the openly gay Korean drag queen/influencer(?). Basically implying that Sunoo was flamboyantly gay. It went pretty viral, with almost 3 million views & over 4k qrts. I thought it was kinda funny how a lot of the responses (at least the visible ones) only focused on how Sunoo was better looking and didn't touch on the behavior comparison at all. Queen Dong-ju even responded, though only to say that Sunoo was cute lmao I don't expect anything further will come of it, but it was an interesting little tempest in a teacup on the K side of twitter. As someone who has a love/hate relationship with Blackpink, a lot of people took issue with the "paved the way" line in Lisa's rap on The Girls. But to be honest I DO think they kinda paved the way for other artists to some extent. They're the ones to REALLY popularize influencer culture in Kpop. And now a lot of groups (like Aespa for example) are trying to copy their marketing strategy and structure. Essentially being a literal influence, that's pretty much what paving the way means. And like it or not, they are making great strides for Asian women in western music and the english speaking world, more so than any previous artist ever did.
