I'm back again with another comment only tangentially related to the thread lol the absolutely infamous Sojang posted a clip of Enhypen Sunoo's recent vlog and captioned it "How is it different from Queen Dong-ju’s vlog?" referring to Queen Dong-ju (kinda nsfw!) the openly gay Korean drag queen/influencer(?). Basically implying that Sunoo was flamboyantly gay. It went pretty viral, with almost 3 million views & over 4k qrts. I thought it was kinda funny how a lot of the responses (at least the visible ones) only focused on how Sunoo was better looking and didn't touch on the behavior comparison at all. Queen Dong-ju even responded, though only to say that Sunoo was cute lmao I don't expect anything further will come of it, but it was an interesting little tempest in a teacup on the K side of twitter. Clearly Sojang isn't planning to stop stirring up controversies, despite her apology earlier this summer.

Y'all ain't hear this from me, but last week I saw a video of a Korean gay guy living in SK basically saying that a lot of the "Idols popular among Korean gay/lesbians" list have "some hidden truths" (his words not mine). Basically, he was saying that some of the actors and idols that are popular among gay men are very involved in the gay scene in Korea. He also said that it's the same for female idols/actors as well. He said that this isn't the case for all of them and that other celebrity men are just ideal types among gay Korean men ( Taeceyeon for example). As we know J0 Kwon, Key, and Seungkwan never make these lists, but we can assume that they're lgbt. Mingyu, DO, Jaehyun, Eunwoo, Gong Yoo, and Moobin have been on these lists for YEARS. I think that it's very interesting. He deleted the video, though.

Yeah that was an interesting thread. Honestly her stance seems to be a mixture of 2 & 3 - this line in particular is basically identical to the hannam man discourse Gyuvin's been hit with before: I like Gyuvin a lot and personally don't think much of his comment beyond it being a joke, but I do kinda understand the knetz who are taking it poorly. Not to get too off topic but I've experienced nice-seeming guys say alarming dogwhistle-y things and then go back to acting nice, and it's disorienting. It becomes hard to trust anything they do or say, even when most of their actions are totally innocuous. And my country isn't nearly as homophobic as Korea - I can imagine that queer Koreans are especially sensitive to the nuances of Gyuvin's comment and its larger context, even if he likely didn't mean any harm by it. (Also lol @ so many of the QRTs deflecting the commentary by pointing out the account is a Haobin RPSer... never change, zeroses) If nothing else, this incident has 1000% confirmed my already-held belief that Gyuvin is straight lmao and the ship-baiting with Ricky is pure fanservice. Ricky himself continues to elude me. At least they seem like they're having fun??

As someone who has a love/hate relationship with Blackpink, a lot of people took issue with the "paved the way" line in Lisa's rap on The Girls. But to be honest I DO think they kinda paved the way for other artists to some extent. They're the ones to REALLY popularize influencer culture in Kpop. And now a lot of groups (like Aespa for example) are trying to copy their marketing strategy and structure. Essentially being a literal influence, that's pretty much what paving the way means. And like it or not, they are making great strides for Asian women in western music and the english speaking world, more so than any previous artist ever did.

I think Yoo Ah In’s thing was more his drug scandal, though we will see what his future holds. People here talk about his sexuality a lot, though I’m not sure how many people who aren’t online a lot would be aware of what is said about him. That said, I will be more surprised when a decently popular actor comes out than even and idol. When you think of it though, actors don’t have the rabid fans some idols have, and generally don’t have to interact on social media as much. Thus I wonder how many actors do have secret relationships and just no one is aware. Must be exhausting though. Does reminds me, some other actors that get mentioned here are Song Joongki and Park Bogum.
