  1. I brought some recent (or not lol) receipts of Namjoon - music taste, references, etc! He consumes queer media A lot I don't know what conclusion can be drawn from previous receipts and these. He either a Very good ally or bi for me

  2. Yes, you're right. The word Jamanchu specifically is about meeting a romantic partner naturally. When you google Jamanchu this shows up 자연스러운 만남을 추구한다는, 다시 말해 소개팅이나 맞선, 미팅 등이 아닌 자리에서 연애 상대를 만나는 걸 선호한다는 얘기다. which translates to 'To pursue natural encounters, which means they prefer to meet their romantic partners in places other than blind dates, meet-ups, or meetings.' He also specifically says 'I want to meet man or women' I think people like Eunwoo are considered so far off straight that he could have a boyfriend right in front of everyone and still people will just think he is just 'best bros' with that guy.

  3. I believe he's the kind of idol who maintains an enigmatic persona and remains highly observant of his environment(Jaehyun is another). Some may perceive him as fitting the stereotypical heterosexual mold and not displaying any stereotypical gay traits, it's crucial to keep in mind that stereotypes do not provide an accurate representation of one's sexuality. Nevertheless, at times, they are employed as a means to make assumptions about someone's sexual orientation, and many members of the LGBTQ+ community may use them to gauge each other. Also, i don't know why they clown'd the t-shirt post, because i believe i posted about it a while back...he's one of the few members that's pretty fluent in English, you don't just put on a t-shirt without reading the text and understanding what it means especially in LA. Edit: I'd like to mention that when I first got into K-pop, the first idols I remember seeing were Eunwoo and Jaehyun. I distinctly recall how they appeared to be less guarded and reserved, and I can't forget Eunwoo's cheer up dancing, lol.

  4. Since marriage has been mentioned…. I know sometimes it comes up that an idol or celeb mentioning they want to marry is a sign they aren’t gay, since obviously same sex marriage isn’t legal in Korea (or most countries). A few times in this thread people have said so-and-so idol really wants to get married, so it’s likely they aren’t gay. But I feel like it’s not enough to really say much for a couple reasons: 1. People may still hope & desire to get married despite not being able to. I remember when same-sex marriage wasn’t legal in California, but friends & family would ask me about getting married. I always said I wanted to…kind of hoping same-sex marriage would be legal at some point. I’m sure others feel similarly. 2. While marriage isn’t available legally, lots of same-sex couples do have symbolic marriages around the world. Having a small ceremony, exchanging rings, doing traditional ceremonies, etc. May not have any legal grounds but they’re still symbolically married, and that’s the most they can do at the moment. Now, external pressures like from parents can force someone to get married, and someone could marry the opposite sex and be bi, but I feel someone saying they want to get married doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t gay either.

  5. I remember that this was discussed a few years back on this thread. This is such a weird reasoning, not only because Mark has never shown himself to be homophobic but especially because Haechan is a practicing christian too. As for the rest of the analysis, no offense but I personally feel it was done superficially for certain members, like by using ships, skinship, fanservice, etc. In particular with Haechan who they write down as LGBT only because of the way he teases the other guys. But that's Haechan in his "idol mode". He's a different person when he tones that down and he must be even more different in his private life (he actually talked about the differences between Haechan/Lee Donghyuck in a recent documentary and said that as Lee Donghyuck he wants to have a wife and kids). I also disagree on Taeil, Hendery and Chenle being bi, imo they're just straight. And like said above, I also think Taeyong isn't gay. On another hand, members like Renjun and Jaemin are written down as straight and although it's strange because I myself used to believe they were straight in the past (and of course they still could be), the more time passes the more I think they maybe aren't.

  6. I also think Taeyong is Bisexual and not 100% gay like some people suggest. I could see Johnny as Bi but im pretty sure hes Straight personally. As for the blog I used to follow them when they were active a couple years back and looking back I find myself disagreeing with a lot of their takes. And when I do agree a lot of their reasonings are kinda goofy and reachable imo: "To put it simply, I feel like Mark has a bit of internalised homophobia. He’s given a Bible to Haechan for his birthday, which is honestly pretty weird in and of itself, but I felt like it could have went a little deeper than that… like it could have been a jab at Haechan’s sexuality. " Like????

  7. The 97liner group chat also included Minghao, Seokmin, Yugyeom, and Bamban originally yes, but imo I think it ended up as mostly just being the aforementioned trio these days because they have a common interest of clubbing that kept them spending time together while the others were less into it. I don't follow got7 but Minghao and Seokmin aren't really the clubbing types, and the China friend group is going strong and probably pulling Minghao closer to that. The Sunoo-Ichan-Sungmin-Hojin-Etc friend group reads different because frankly they're all pretty obviously fruity and there's nothing else about them linking them together explicitly like age or even having debuted around the same time. They could all have become friends for various reasons but from an outside perspective the only through-line with them is that literally all of them are widely assumed queer. From a carat perspective, I've never been able to get behind Mingyu being queer. I honestly think he's probably got some underlying homophobic tendencies even if he's not actively homophobic or even considers himself open-minded. Mingyu does a lot of "haha, I'm doing something not stereotypically masculine" jokes that come across as very straight, because queerness is always the inherent punchline. He clearly does like getting attention from men to a degree but he's also very blatantly got a pretty big ego and I think he just likes when anyone at all feeds into it.

  8. I think Mark Lee is straight personaly but I dont think hes homophobic. People just like to bring up his religion when its convenient to the point they're trying to make. I may not know Mark Lee personally but he doesnt seem like the type of guy to use a bible as a gift as a way to "jab someone". Even if he does have internalized homophobia he doesnt strike me as the type of person to take it out on someone else. That blog has made other comments similar which are very questionable. But I agree with some of their other takes on some of the other NCT members like Ten, Jaehyun, and Johnny.

  9. Are we forgetting about this? Eunwoo is definitely bisexual imo. The term 자만추 (Jamanchu - click for Reddit post explaining) he used is a slang used to the preference of meeting a romantic partner naturally, without blind dates and that kind of stuff. The translation says either date or acquaintances, but honestly everywhere you look it says Jamanchu is about dating.

  10. Dang I must be out of touch with the Hollywood scene because all those names surprise me. Especially Hugh Jackman since he’s been married for like 26 years or something. _____ Anwywho, people talk about how no Korean celeb would benefit from coming out, but as people have said, nearly no celebrity in the world really does. People certainly don’t come out to make their lives easier lol. I can see someone coming out to draw more attention to their cause, and to encourage others that it is okay to be queer. That was partly the reason Shinjiro Atae came out not long ago. Coming out would be major, but even celebs openly supporting LGBTQA+ charities and organizations would be cool. That said, Korean celebs, and celebs in Asia in general, have more to lose than celebs in the Western world. When things like protections, domestic partnerships, and marriage become more common, we may see more happen. Who knows though? I didn’t think we’d ever get a gay dating show in Korea and it ended up getting 2 seasons so no one can truly predict what may happen lol

  11. What I mean is that while a lot of the time we dwell on idols who use colorful lighting [Like the Bisexual pink, blue and purple lights] in the background or they might wear shoes, clothes of rainbow colors but never anything conclusive comes out of it. We never know their intentions. Are they using these colors because they look pretty? Are they using them because they support or are part of the community? we will never know. However, Eunwoo's shirt is just out there in plain sight. There is no hint dropping going on here, like the way we seem to have with the rainbow colors.

  12. I stopped consuming korean media for like a year so i don't have anything to add to the topic. What are your most recent standouts? Also did anyone watch Street Man Fighter? I am curious about your opinnions on the dancers. Obv Eoddae are gay, but a lot of the guys seemed very close with them, even hyper masculine ones like Trix. I feel like the dancer world is definitely more open minded. Other than them, 1million Choi Youngjun, Yumeki and YGX Mood Dok who choreographed this dance: Even Vata gave me some vibes, but idk. It's hard to tell based on the limited content. Prime Kings are actually very close to EODDAE. Ted and Trix are really close and there was a video where 2 eoddae members were teaching pk members to do their makeup and they were using glitter and stuff like that.

This Tumblr account does this with many groups, but the NCT analysis is the one That i agree 99%, i would only put Johnny as bi in the list ( his relationship with ten in the early NCT days was very Sus ) And i think taeyong is bi, not Full on gay https://lgbt-kidols.tumblr.com/post/618467037562470400/nct-ot21-sexuality-analysis

  24. It's a really great drama overall, and still has some of the best representation of a same-sex relationship I've seen on TV. I'm still watching it, but by only episode 7 it already dealt with topics like Lavender Marriages, setting up on blind dates, hiding your sexuality, dealing with coming out, and family issues. I am convinced someone on the writing team must be LGBTQA+ since so many topics hit so close to home. I can see why so many people, internationally and Korean, keep praising them as a couple even over a decade afterwards. It's also nice to know that despite them being in every episode and being a thing since the beginning of the show, ratings didn't falter like I think many of us assume would. Ratings went up actually as they started getting more screentime. And both actors went to have great careers afterwards. I am a bit sad we haven't gotten much since then, but hopefully as time goes on. You can watch clips on DailyMotion, but only until episode 25 or so. The rest of the 63 episodes you have to watch on DramaCool or some site. Some spoilers in the clip below, but it's a nice quick rundown.

  26. I think this is certainly the case for many queer people around the world sadly, especially in countries without legal protections or marriage. I personally still haven't said anything to my parents, and likely won't until I'm certain I find someone I want to be with for a while. It does kind of suck though. Being closeted also makes it harder to event date or meet others, even with online dating. I know it's somewhat common for closeted people to avoid online dating even, for being worried about being found out. Though, logically, if your parents are on Grindr there may be other issues afloat lol. Though, many family members can figure things out with enough context clues. They may not say anything outright, but subtle things like changing their language from "I hope you find a good wife" to "I hope you find someone good to spend your life with" are small, but can be so meaningful. There's also the cultural aspect I think some people forget. Same-sex marriage may be legal in 30+ countries, but misconceptions and expectations take time and effort to fade. In my culture, the concept of arranged blind dates you see so often in KDramas is pretty common. Quite a few cultures are similar, in that every achievement is nice and all, but marriage to a good spouse is still the end goal. The only thing to do is to assert your desire to not be married yet or that you're still looking for the right person. Kind of funny timing, but I'm watching clips from the 2010 family Kdrama "Life is Beautiful" where a gay couple was a big part of the story, and their storyline deals with this exact issue. Parts of their story hit close to home, and it's a really touching portrayal of a same-sex couple on Korean TV.

  27. I don't think when an idol we generally percieve as gay is "exposed" to be dating a female it automatically means he is straight and we were wrong, he could be bi or again just gay. I lived my whole life in a crazy homophobic environment and as a bi person it was very hard(and still is). I have gay friends who once they started entering their twenties their families kept asking them about their so and started putting pressure on them to date, etc. One of them told me how his mom started aranging blind dates for him and every time they would meet she would ask if he has a girlfriend yet and when he is going to get one, even though he had other achievements or life updates to be congratulated about(She is very openly homophobic so coming out is not an option). Idk, i'm curious if someone else has been in this position how was your experience and what did you do?

  31. I know that they aren't technically Kpop idols, but since they are idols kind of created using a kpop system with Produce, does anyone have any thoughts on JO1 or INI? Both groups were formed through the Produce Japan shows as permanent groups, and I've gotten into them lately (mostly JO1 due to their cover of Super). Since they're still popular idols, I doubt we'd get anything major compared to major musicians in Japan (like Ayumi Hamasaki), but some things have been fun to check out. There was the time some members went on a gay radio station and tried to guess the most popular member among gay men. I'm waiting for the day this happens in Korea lol. They did have a photoshoot in a gay club apparently (not sure if it actually is but that naked man in the 2nd pic makes me think yes). But it is just a photoshoot. Their leader Sho is someone who seems supportive at least. At their recent concert he gave a fanboy a hug. They apparently have quite a few male fans, especially gay men (I guess Produce JP was popular in that demographic), so it could just be a Jiwoong situation, but in either case it is still nice to see male idols being affectionate to their male fans, since they could totally get by without doing so. There was this moment at 10:28 when they were bowling and he said "from the boyfriend's perspective" and quickly changed it to girlfriend. Lol I remember hearing "Kareshi" and taking a double take. One of the covers he's done recently was Elton John's "Your Song." He also seemed to be good friends with Ryuchell before they passed away this year. There are other moments and thoughts on the other members, but for now thank you for reading my thesis.

  32. I just thought I’d update, but Kevin went to a second Beyoncé concert, this time the one in LA with some famous gay fashion designer called Jeremy Scott? I also know Kevin said before he bought Beyoncé tickets for his whole family to go, so unless that concert already passed I’m assuming he will be going a third time as well?

  34. Sohee too. He was pictured going to hunting bars. There's also an older rumor (from his neo days) about Sungchan having dated a female trainee. But real or not, I've always thought Sungchan and Shotaro were straight anyway. Tbh I'm wondering if Riize could end up being SM's "straightest" boygroup.

  40. Not Idol related, but I thought seeing some positive same-sex news in Asia is welcome. Japan's Aichi Pref. to recognize same-sex, common-law couples with children as families That prefecture has over 7.5 million people, so even if you took a conservative estimate to how many people living there were same-sex couples, that's still a lot of people this can affect.

  42. Hanbin saying he's not ashamed of any of his past performances on the comospolitan interview, I'm proud of him. An active (and possibly the next it boy) idol taking proud of his lgbtq influenced dance origins. Hope fans can finally stop clutching their perls everytime someone mentions hanbin's past performances as if it's something we shouldn't be proud of it or hyping it.

  43. Riize Anton looks more like ITZY’s Chaeryoung than Taemin. The only similarity is his personality and the hairstyling. Like atp, it’s the plastic surgery kpop stans that’s keeping the “obsession” they want alive. I genuinely think that you dont think these people as actual people the way you all casually throw “uncanny” and “cloning”.

  46. tbh, i think tiktok challenge has just become a norm for every time there is more than one artist in a place. jaejoong said this on his show that it's what replaced giving seniors your signed album. instead of doing all that, it's just a video now. and mark that day was in like 5 people's challenges and keeho said he did about 3 then got tired and left but, it doesn't mean that those lot aren't close or anything for doing the tiktok altogether, but i do think it's like a custom now to do it i think before zico, companies didn't really know what to use tiktok for, but that one hwasa and chungha video changed the industry forever.. it's crazy it's like once one person or group goes viral for something, it becomes what everyone does. i'm seeing more english version and sped up version on actual albums ever since fifi cupid eng sped up got popular (though, there has always been eng versions, but i definitely see more these days)
