  1. I think this is certainly the case for many queer people around the world sadly, especially in countries without legal protections or marriage. I personally still haven't said anything to my parents, and likely won't until I'm certain I find someone I want to be with for a while. It does kind of suck though. Being closeted also makes it harder to event date or meet others, even with online dating. I know it's somewhat common for closeted people to avoid online dating even, for being worried about being found out. Though, logically, if your parents are on Grindr there may be other issues afloat lol. Though, many family members can figure things out with enough context clues. They may not say anything outright, but subtle things like changing their language from "I hope you find a good wife" to "I hope you find someone good to spend your life with" are small, but can be so meaningful. There's also the cultural aspect I think some people forget. Same-sex marriage may be legal in 30+ countries, but misconceptions and expectations take time and effort to fade. In my culture, the concept of arranged blind dates you see so often in KDramas is pretty common. Quite a few cultures are similar, in that every achievement is nice and all, but marriage to a good spouse is still the end goal. The only thing to do is to assert your desire to not be married yet or that you're still looking for the right person. Kind of funny timing, but I'm watching clips from the 2010 family Kdrama "Life is Beautiful" where a gay couple was a big part of the story, and their storyline deals with this exact issue. Parts of their story hit close to home, and it's a really touching portrayal of a same-sex couple on Korean TV.

  3. Or it could be just because they're the most famous members of their respective groups. It boys hang out with other it boys. Not to throw shade at the other 97 liners of Seventeen or Bang Chan but individually they aren't as popular as them. It definitely was not a gay bar. You could see that in the videos filmed inside of it. I was lurking twitter when the rumors first surfaced (way before the Dispatch article) and it actually were antis who invented the "gay club" stuff to attract homophobic hate to them and then their own stans run with that because they liked it better than the idea that the 97 line was at a regular bar to meet girls.

  4. I don’t get how BTS is hated in this thread at all? It’s just a lot of the time people post about Jungkook or Jimin it’s almost always because they ship jikook and it’s really annoying. When people used to talk about Taehyung and post receipts for him everyone was all for it. When people posted receipts for Jhope not even that long ago people were agreeing. Jhope in my opinion has some of the most receipts in BTS but because he’s not shipped with a popular cute maknae line member he gets overlooked A LOT. in my opinion. I think jhope is a part of the LGBT community.

  5. The 97liner group chat also included Minghao, Seokmin, Yugyeom, and Bamban originally yes, but imo I think it ended up as mostly just being the aforementioned trio these days because they have a common interest of clubbing that kept them spending time together while the others were less into it. I don't follow got7 but Minghao and Seokmin aren't really the clubbing types, and the China friend group is going strong and probably pulling Minghao closer to that. The Sunoo-Ichan-Sungmin-Hojin-Etc friend group reads different because frankly they're all pretty obviously fruity and there's nothing else about them linking them together explicitly like age or even having debuted around the same time. They could all have become friends for various reasons but from an outside perspective the only through-line with them is that literally all of them are widely assumed queer. From a carat perspective, I've never been able to get behind Mingyu being queer. I honestly think he's probably got some underlying homophobic tendencies even if he's not actively homophobic or even considers himself open-minded. Mingyu does a lot of "haha, I'm doing something not stereotypically masculine" jokes that come across as very straight, because queerness is always the inherent punchline. He clearly does like getting attention from men to a degree but he's also very blatantly got a pretty big ego and I think he just likes when anyone at all feeds into it.

  6. What if CLC released a girl crush concept after Hobgoblin? What if the Chinese members stayed in WJSN? What if 2NE1 made a comeback after their Mama performance? What if Jessica never left SNSD?

  8. I don't think when an idol we generally percieve as gay is "exposed" to be dating a female it automatically means he is straight and we were wrong, he could be bi or again just gay. I lived my whole life in a crazy homophobic environment and as a bi person it was very hard(and still is). I have gay friends who once they started entering their twenties their families kept asking them about their so and started putting pressure on them to date, etc. One of them told me how his mom started aranging blind dates for him and every time they would meet she would ask if he has a girlfriend yet and when he is going to get one, even though he had other achievements or life updates to be congratulated about(She is very openly homophobic so coming out is not an option). Idk, i'm curious if someone else has been in this position how was your experience and what did you do?

  9. considering that there's decent amount of Korean Troye listeners who were absolutely freaked out by the Rush mv and every article about Sam Smith gets a 'hul..he's gay???' comment I don't think so. If they seem to be a really big fan maybe but just recommending a few songs seems par for the course for most k-idols.

  10. I don’t think there’s a definitive answer. Troye Sivan was/is very popular in korea, blue neighbourhood in particular had a lot of success there and I believe there’s a lot of koreans that casually listen to his music without knowing that he is gay. There’s a lot of idols who like Troye, if they talk about his music videos or talk about him often I usually at least think they’re an ally. I do know several straight guys who enjoy Troye’s music. Of course listening/talking abt Troye could be an indicator that the idol is gay, or it could not be. The same thing goes with the whole bisexual lightning thing. Maybe they’re trying to hint at their sexuality, or they just chose a pretty colour combination (that is also very common). Listening to Troye or using bisexual lightning is usually not enough for me to draw any conclusions about an idol.

  11. I'm crying :))). This is a horror scenario. Btw, the kdrama seems well acted and the represantation is much better than what you get these days(Vicenzo, that one kdrama where the guys confess and then imedately die in a car crash LMAO), i might give it a try.

  12. Yeah I personally don't think either that Jungkook is anything but straight, at best some kind of bi-curious. I also very much agree that it is in fact annoying when shippers bring up their ''proof'' as a real thing. I rather meant that a few times in the past when I tried to start serious conversations, for example, the whole Namjoon boyfriend thing, then some people were visibly upset at that and even complained on the threat about it. I do understand that most conversations about BTS have been rehashed at this point, though I am also interested in what other people might think or what receipts (what I didn't know of yet) they have.

  13. I don't think it's about BTS being disliked in the thread because the reactions are mostly positive when the posts are about Jimin and Suga and they used to be positive about V too. It's more about what you pointed out in your second paragraph. Like I genuinely never saw anyone thinking Jungkook is anything but straight unless they're a hidden Jikooker or Vkooker. You can't blame people for being annoyed at the Jungkook posts when the "evidence" is random stuff like color lighting or interactions with his bandmates that are overanalyzed by delusional shippers. Meanwhile the guy is out here being the only BTS member who had a serious dating rumor with a woman before the V/Jennie leaks and the only one who chose to explicitly have a female love interest in his solo debut MV. Not necesserely. Troye Sivan's music is actually quite popular in Korea. I can only speak for the idols I follow but for me Taehyun saying that he loved the Blue Neighbourhood trilogy or Chenle and Jisung doing a cover of Youth don't mean anything more than appreciation for his songs.

  14. Another thing that made me suspect that some people from the 97 line might be queer Eunwoo wore this t-shirt written: "would you be My queer friend" ? Eunwoo's english is very fluent and he's a very big vocal person, so he definitely knew the meaning of the t-shirt The ones i suspect the most ( again... Just my opinion): mingyu, jungkook, jaehyun and eunwoo himself ( that whole pmn thing )

  15. I will be honest about Jungkook. I think he is open-minded. One thing for sure is he is open minded. I think Jungkook is the kind of person to not care what sexuality you are. I think everyone will agree with this. However, I do also think he is bisexual. If he were to be a part of the community it would be bisexual. I know this is a reach but the famous members of the 97 squad [Jaehyun, Eunwoo, Mingyu] that Jungkook is a part of, have all been brought up in the past on this thread with the discussion indicating that they might be Bi. Has anyone ever wondered that why the 97 squad revolves mainly around only these members? I mean, doesn't Seventeen have 2 other members who are 97 liners? Isn't Bang Chan a 97 liner too? I always forget Bang Chan and Jungkook are born in the same year. Maybe Bang Chan is considered a junior because he debuted so much after BTS and Seventeen? Jungkook, Mingyu and Eunwoo are especially close and all 3 names have been brought up here, recently everyone agreed that they see Eunwoo as Bisexual. Could it be that they bonded not only over their age but over other similarities too? Just like how recently someone said Sunoo has a whole network of friends who are around his age and are all probably part of the community. These are just some random thoughts.

  17. I don't think veneers and braces are exactly use in place of each other. Veneers make the size of the teeth even, and the color very white, but they go over a "stump" of the original tooth. If your teeth are not aligned, veneers can't make them align.

  23. Incredibly bland. There's no high point in the song, the chorus is flat, and I can't even remember how the verses go. Obviously, this is just the generic "We won the competition!" song, so I'm gonna wait for a real release to judge the group properly.

  24. Karina getting braces again instead of veneers thank god. I wonder if other idols were given the same options but didnt want to commit for final results and instead opted for more immediate one.

  28. I love red velvet and I would love for them to continue to keep making music, I’ve literally been following them since debut, but i’m not going to lie I feel like a lot of fans have known for awhile that one day they would probably be put on an “indefinite hiatus” like fx and unofficially disband. I’m surprised though that out of all the girls that Irene might be the one to leave. I always thought that Joy would be the first one to leave the group since she seems to much happier acting and I feel like she kinda fell out of love with being an idol a long time ago.
