I actually came here to search the thread for this moment and realized it had never been posted here and I saw it elsewhere so I'm here to share Giuk from Onewe's pride flag accessory with everyone today. He can be seen briefly wearing what looks like a rainbow pride pin or some sort of tassel on his bass strap (maybe attached to his jacket but pretty sure its on the strap) for a microsecond during his cover of Hype Boy (where he also didn't change boy to girl, lots of male idols covered it without changing it but also wearing a pride accessory makes me want to reiterate it as relevant lol) It's from 2:30-2:31 but it's really just a couple frames, blink and you miss it so I'll add screenshots. Most of the video when he does have his bass the camera isnt low enough to see where the pin would be but there are a couple shots where its clearly not there anymore. The brief shot that includes the pride pin he looks like he's reaching for/covering the pin so imo I think he started filming, realized it was there, and then took it off and didn't use any footage where it was visible (except this really brief shot obviously). This is also a different bass strap than what he usually uses, he has a couple different ones but I've never seen him use this one outside of this video. This is so interesting to me as a Renjun bi/gay truther. I mean ofc it doesn't make sense that every friend of Key would be gay, but we do know that he's close to many other rumoured gay idols. Comments @harumaki - I like how it focuses on Wonyoung. I think the mobile phones idea is interesting. In the way that I see it, it seems to hint otherwise that people can get markedly obsessed with her. I also like seeing the clear references that it makes to Barbie, with the font and all. @Winter Bear I like seeing the fashion of the dolls, specifically the outfits to match the concept of "day" and "night". I think the only reason a idol might come out apart from the what's already been said would be if something really bad happened like a big celebrity being outed or a national headline type hate crime/bullying story could push gay celebrities to come out as a show of solidarity (I could especially see this pushing someone like Jokwon whose very outspoken). But I hope those things won't happen anytime soon.

I don’t think any idol will come out any time soon. Maybe if/when gay marriage is legalized a retired idol may come out to announce a marriage, but I can’t see it happening until then. There is zero incentive for a working idol to come out.

Dang I must be out of touch with the Hollywood scene because all those names surprise me. Especially Hugh Jackman since he’s been married for like 26 years or something. _____ Anwywho, people talk about how no Korean celeb would benefit from coming out, but as people have said, nearly no celebrity in the world really does. People certainly don’t come out to make their lives easier lol. I can see someone coming out to draw more attention to their cause, and to encourage others that it is okay to be queer. That was partly the reason Shinjiro Atae came out not long ago. Coming out would be major, but even celebs openly supporting LGBTQA+ charities and organizations would be cool. That said, Korean celebs, and celebs in Asia in general, have more to lose than celebs in the Western world. When things like protections, domestic partnerships, and marriage become more common, we may see more happen. Who knows though? I didn’t think we’d ever get a gay dating show in Korea and it ended up getting 2 seasons so no one can truly predict what may happen lol

i could see an idol coming out if they were a foreign idol and left the industry or they were a korean idol but they moved out of korea and also left the industry (although it may be harder for them to completely disconnect from it as i know ex-idols tend to move on to variety, switch labels and still work in kpop, promote in korea in general etc) just because it would likely be safer to do so but even then these instances seem rare so that likely wouldn't happen anytime soon

Yes! I've always found it surprising how directly people can question idols on their looks?! Like when people straight up tell them at fansigns that their hair is too long, that it doesn't look good like that and they should cut it. I think it's because of all that parasocial stuff -- that perception of closeness to them that either leads to a sense of friendship/family-like relationship where you can just say things like that or, otherwise, something that is scarily close to a sense of entitlement or ownership towards them. Of course their looks are a big part of their career, but hairstyles and facial features are their bodies, not a stage costume. Sometimes I think the reason why people end up cultivating such a (one-sided) relationship with the idol and make such comments is because they consume so much of the idol's contents all the time and they forget that there is a person underneath the makeup and performance persona, and that performance-mode is actually just a part of (and not the entirety of) the idol's life.

IMO there are basically three camps of knetz upset at Gyuvin: Homophobes who don't want him so much as hinting at gayness in relation to ZB1 Pro-LGBT people who feel he's making fun of the struggles of queer guys in Korea (this is a pretty small contingent lol) People who are pissed at him for supposedly being a "hannam man" again. They see his joke as the kinda joke a middle schooler would make in the back of the class and snicker at. Very no homo gamer fratboy vibes. This ties back to the complicated situation re: feminism and misogyny in Korea, and how a lot of Korean women in particular are primed to be extremely wary of guys who make comments like that. + trolls and antis who don't care but are using this as an opportunity to drag him or ZB1 as a whole. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if this keeps happening, bc he's pretty unfiltered and now he has a reputation for being hannam man adjacent. So antis are going to keep reading the things he says in the worst possible light and reinforcing their beliefs.
