i actually came across his predebut pics before seeing his official pics from SM, and thinking he already had a very conventionally beautiful face. like, there's probably an aspect of nepotism involved because of his famous parents, but he was handsome enough to be scouted off the streets. the fact that SM felt the need to recommend nose work even to him is wild to me. first of all, he's just what, 18 years old? and secondly, he already had beautiful facial harmony with his natural features that can easily be elevated with makeup and styling alone. why the unnecessary nose job? it just blows my mind.

A lot of people are surprised, but she and LSM were never close. She auditioned and got in SM without him knowing at first; plus, the treatment she has gotten from the company throughout the years has been abismal. Her self confidence was shattered since producers there never liked her natural singing voice and pressured her to use her aegyo tone all the time, making her believe people would not like her singing, and eventually, making her believe she was not fit to be a singer at all. I really doubt she left as a show for support for LSM. Rather, she stayed for as long as she did because she would have been criticized to hell and back for "betraying" family if she had left prior to all that happened. I think she's taking advantage of all the changes SM's going through. I really hope she will sing again. Her real voice is so lovely, and girl has got range. She's the only SM artist that can actually sing in a whistle note, as far as I know (and if she has kept up with practice). I also hope she gains her confidence back. Any old Sunshiner knows she used to have this larger than life personality, and was assertive as they come. I miss her. We could see how she slowly began to lose her self-esteem. Her injuries and all the shit she's been through made things worse. Shinyoung once alluded to her having seen/been through too much within the industry, which makes my heart break guessing what they meant. If she does end up retiring though, she's earned it, and I hope she lives happily ever after with her cats.

In my perspective Stray kids Pros: Have a signature sound; Self produce to make all members fit the songs: Good at live singing and performances; Have some really solid work; Above average talent level for 4th gen standards. Cons: Their self made lyrics can be cringy - bang chan; Formulatic title tracks; The mix of 2 words to name albums/songs got old quick; Inconsistent quality of albums. Ateez Pros: Great performers - Hongjoong main slayer; Interesting and unique concept in general, not just for 4th gen; Above average talent level for 4th gen standards; Distinct pirate music identity with some solid bops. Cons: Piercing vocals can cause headaches - Jongho mostly; You gotta be in the mood to listen to at least half of their discography or else you can get earache. Enhypen Pros: Good dancers; Solid discography (ignore future perfect); Interesting and unique concept for 4th gen standards; Extremely entertaining pre debut reality show. Cons: During their encores, they all sound like Sehun in the Sketchbook performance of Love Me Right; Get into a scandal every 2 weeks; Weird group and fandom dynamics. TXT Pros: Solid discography if we ignore their emo phase; Quite likable members; Interesting and unique concept in general, not just for 4th gen; Easy on the ears. Cons: They sound like they're holding a sneeze everytime they sing - all of them; They give the vibe of being hybe's failed attempt to recreate their own shinee. What about you? I'm always surprised by how not SM-ified Shotaro is. He's definitely had work done over the years but he doesn't really look like an SM idol to the same degree as pretty much all their idols are melding into one face these days. Seunghan and Sohee seem like they also escaped the AI look but there's not really any predebut pictures of Seunghan that I've seen so who knows what he was starting out with. I think they did a good job with whatever Sohee got, he still kind of looks like a particularly handsome regular dude at a glance as opposed to a guy who got a bunch of procedures. He definitely got a lot done though overall, but keeping his nose tip more round and his eyes more hooded does a lot to make him look more natural.

I said he's not gay...didn't say straight. But given his religious upbringing + being the only son of his family. I doubt he'd act seriously on any male attraction if he had the option to have a fulfilling relationship with a woman. If he knows he's gay I doubt he'd get a beard right now since as a korean celebrity he has the option to delay dating/marriage up to his 40s without issue. So either he's straight, bi but unlikely to be in serious relationships with men, or gay and so in denial that he thinks he's straight. Personally I feel the first option is the most likely but you can think whatever you want.

I’ve always wondered to what extent these idols parents know or are involved in their kids ps. I know in Korea ps is quite common where even some regular people are getting it but isn’t there a limit? In my mind I’m imagining them being okay with a finessed nose job and some eye work but when it comes to bone work I just can’t wrap my head around it. I wouldn’t be surprised if for at least some idols who are of age hide or don’t mention some of the things they get done, this goes double for international parents who don’t get to see their kids that often.

Idols during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen used to get plastic surgery little by little trough out their careers. This way the public couldn’t catch up on them until they were already 7 years into their careers which meant that at that point it would be a bit “ridiculous” to complain about it. This however was during a time where idols were allowed to have “awkward” visuals the first few years of their careers. Nowadays however, people expect idols to debut with the same visuals that took 1st till 3rd gen, 7 years to achieve. That’s why companies (like SM and HYBE) been giving their rookie idols all these obvious surgical enhancements. They probably also know that fans will defend these idols till death as most of these surgeries were done before debut and as most idols nowadays are underage or barely of age it could be perfectly disguised as “puberty”.

wonyoung's before after side by side comparison is kinda crazy. i hate when others say that because an idol is young, its impossible for them to undergo surgery.... even leeseo the 14-15yo has gotten some tweaks (though she was always pretty): im gonna say she got her inner and outer corners of her eyes cut, double eyelid deepening, nose implant, lip filler, cheek filler, botox to the mouth area, and either she got a mini v-line jaw procedure or like botox to the jaw cuz it looks completely different. i think she's happy with the results and she knows she's pretty.

Doing my part to revive this thread, since I used to be quite active for a bit but then keeping up with most groups became too tiresome: Does anyone else think that the Exo members' faces stayed surprisingly constistent over the years and their procedures quite subtle compared to other SM senior artists? In honor of their recent comeback I fell down the rabbit hole again and rewatched a bunch of their old MVs for the first time in a while and it seems the most defining changes happened either predebut or during their first two years. Like I realized that Chen actually debuted with his original square jaw and only seemed to have his eyes done at debut (shame about the jaw, double eyelids alone already made him look enough like an idol) and Suho's nose job around Overdose was surprisingly obvious. Like I knew that happened but in direct comparison it kinda caught me off guard. Not that they didn't get anything else done over the course of their careers (some members *cough*Suho*cough* do tend to look a bit waxy at times), but compared to like, Taeyeon who was just mentioned I think they still look rather fresh and had genuinely good work done. This is not a dig at Taeyeon btw, she's my ultimate bias but by getting rid of most of her bone structure she manages to look somehow 16 and 40 at the same time imo. I just hope the need to look perfect doesn't get to the Exo members as they age and they keep their touch ups subtle. Might do a follow up post about the members if I feel like it, we haven't had one in many years.

Not the first time i say this but every time i see side by side comparison of Karina i'm amazed how big the change from debut era is! But tbh she looks good, i just hope she stops here. Like i feel like in aespa there is always something little bit different in one of the members. You mentioned sm taeyeon face treatment and i hope it wont keep going to that route in anyone of the members. I was just thinking how much better Dara has aged compared to Taeyeon even though Dara is older. Random comparison but since she was having comeback thought about it. To revive this thread, do you guys wanna share which recent procedure shocked or surprised you the most? (You may interpret 'recent' as you like, I'm thinking maybe in the past year or so.) I myself am still sad about Hwasa's boob job! She looks really good now, granted, and her current boob size fits her frame. She also seems very happy with the results. But damn I miss her pear shaped body with the little tiddies. She looked absolutely divine. Additionally, it felt good to see my own body type represented on one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Her shape was just so charming and unique to me. During "I'm a 빛" promotions she was very skinny which kind of made her pear-shape even more evident (I've even suspected she went for the implants because during this promotion, she lost a lot of weight from her chest, too).
