Hello and Welcome to the first installment of my EXO analysis masterpost!! Predebut EXO with their current lineup, poor Xiumin wasn't invited it seems. But worry not, he will be part of this series. Now before we begin, here are a few disclaimers to start with: I am not going to analyze the ex-members(Kris, Tao, Luhan), simply because their departure from the group was almost ten years ago by now and I have no idea what they've been up to since (except Kris being in jail hopefully) or where to even start looking for updates on them. If anyone here happens to still follow them, they are welcome to make their own analyses and I will add them to the masterpost. I will try my best to include Lay though. Secondly, I will not go through era by era for every single member, for multiple reasons. Those being a) even with three/four members leaving or being inactive, they're still a big group, b) they've been around for a hot minute and sifting through old tumblr archives for pictures that are HD, unedited, have them wearing as little makeup as possible and have the right angle gave me a major headache, and c) they've really not changed all that much throughout the years. Lastly, please know that I know nothing. I only have a working set of eyes and google on my side. Corrections, comments and suggestions are more than welcome. Let's get started! The first member in this series is going to be no other than Baekhyun, whose analysis is probably one of the most anticipated! Now Baekhyun was an interesting and ngl one of the hardest cases for me to make sense of, for several reasons. Consequently, chances I'm wrong about pretty much everything are pretty high. Please take everything I say with a grain of salt. While at first glance it may seem like his surgeon crafted him a whole new face, the more I looked into it the more I came to the conlusion that he really didn't have all that much more done than the rest of the members at all. Rather, I think it was a few but very specific and effective changes that made all the difference in the end, because something clearly happened between these two photos, and it wasn't just a decent haircut and professional styling: We're going to look at three things that I think have changed, namely his eyes, nose and lower face, meaning the jaw/chin area. I apologize in advance for the terrible quality and angles of some of the predebut pics, I tried my best but he really didn't give me much to work with. I'm gonna start with the eyes, since those two pics already provide a pretty good look at what possibly changed (sorry for the inconsistent sizing lol also please note he is wearing light makeup in the second and third photos): The shape of his eyes stayed surprisingly similar. Droopy eyelids with a hidden crease and downturned corners. My guess is that he had an upper blepharoplasty predebut to get rid of excess fat and tissue on his upper eyelid. This small but decisive change did some heavy lifting and opened up his eyes quite a bit without altering the shape. At the same time it exposed his eyelid crease and irises a bit more, as is typical of blepharoplasties. His inner corners look the same to me, but he may have had his outer corners cut a little bit. Not sure about this one at all though, since it could just be side effect of the upper bleph. Now to get an idea of the changes to his nose: As we can see, from the front his nose bridge looks a bit bumpy with a bulbous tip. A quick glance it his side profile also shows that his nose used to be shorter than it was at debut/now: Compared to 2012, where not only his nose bridge is smoothed out but his nose is also visibly longer: I had to look up which procedure can elongate the nose, and it seems that the answer is by reshaping the nose tip through cartilage grafting. I do not think he has an implant; it has been established before that he uses fillers to smooth out his bridge and it does seem to fluctuate every once in a while between slightly bumpy, straight and even hooked at times. He probably gets fillers in the upper part of his bridge up until the eyebrows and above the tip: Admittedly not the best pic, but the bridge is slightly more bumpy here. Versus more hooked in 2016: I also think he may have had an alarplasty in addition to the reshaping of the tip. Saving the best for last, let's look at the work the transformed his lower face. This is the one part about his face that has been debated the most throughout the years, with speculations ranging from jaw shave to chin shave to chin wing implants. After looking at a million pics I reckon he probably got the Jessica Special, meaning corrective jaw surgery with some cosmetic bonuses, since we're already at it. Using this pic again, we can see that his chin juts out awkwardly, creating an imbalanced lower face, with clear indents around his chin. This leads me to believe he first and foremost had corrective jaw surgery to fix his underbite, similar to Jessica, and then some more work to shorten and soften his chin a little bit and create an oval face shape: compared to his profile at debut: Now what's interesting is that the closer we get to his predebut times at SM, the more his jaw looks like his post debut one. It could theoretically be possible that he already had corrective jaw surgery in high school as it would be beneficial for him, with SM only adding the finishing touches to complete his flowerboyification. Look at his jaw during his high school graduation ceremony, it does not look all that different from how it looks now: I still believe he either had a chin reduction or a chin wing implant later on to further integrate his chin and create more of a v-line. There's this indent between his lower lip and chin that doesn't seem to exist anymore. Comparing predebut Baekhyun to a more recent picture: To sum it all up, here's what I think he's got done: 1. Upper Blepharoplasty 2. Possible Epicanthoplasty 3. Tip plasty by using cartilage grafting 4. Possible Alarplasty 5. Fillers to smooth out nose bump 6. Corrective Jaw Surgery to fix bite issues 7. Chin Reduction or Chin Wing Implant to give the illusion of a reduction 8. Generally fillers like how all idols get them What do you think? I think it's a shame how much flack Baekhyun gets for looking "ugly" predebut, so I tried my best not to use the worst pictures ever for this comparison. He undoubtedly had work done to get to his current looks, but I am firmly against purposefully using the most unflattering pics one can find and comparing them with pics where he is clearly all dolled up. For the after-photos I tried using pics where he's wearing very little to no makeup and that weren't edited to hell and back, to make it as fair as possible. As I said in the introduction, I am by no means an expert on this and at the end of the day only he knows the amount of plastic surgery he's had. I limited myself to only pointing out the changes I can personally see, but if there's anything else that caught your eye please do comment and I might add it to the post. Also please let me know if I should put the pics under spoilers, I tried to limit my selection as much as possible and tried my best at resizing them without compromising too much of the quality, but if it's still too much I'll change it. She looks like a completely different person and she's only 18. She looks pretty but sometimes her face looks stiff and over filled. I worry about what she's going to look like at 25 let alone 35.

i feel like with hobi there are so many moments that most people wouldn't really pick up on if they werent lgbt themselves. imo hes one of the members who i think are most likely to be somewhat lgbt, especially with how involved (or informed i guess?) he is with queer culture. what kind of solidified this for me was when he was performing equal sign at lollapalooza and had the colours of the bi flag on the screen behind him and considering he was singing about equality this feels very intentional to me. but then again it could just be the colours they chose and it has nothing to do with the bi flag lol but idk i would love to see a thread about all these moments as well!!

i remember people discussed here about irene and zzinu (i don't know his actual name sorry), two of hobi's closest friends that were seen with him in the jack in the box listening party and i found this post on facebook about some of his other queer friends and in the first picture it looks like zzinu was at a parade for pride month, i tried to find more info about it on twitter but i couldnt find anything, but he's photographer, i would be more surprised if he was straight and hobi's dancer too, so even if he's not queer i wouldnt be surprised if the majority of his friends consisted of queer people https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=815789206659453&set=pb.100046851436743.-2207520000.&type=3

There are always some small bits and pieces that come up once in a while that could point toward Hoseok being part of the community. I'd be interested in seeing all these moments put together in a thread to see what we are looking at. I really think there is a possibility that he isn't straight, everything we could count as a possible receipt is just vague enough for us to guess around.

Just watched some recent performances and wow all the male idols have sparkly clean armpits? Do they wax them or do they get them laser off lol. Even their arms and legs look seemingly hairless too.

Not only is it unlikely for Hong Seokcheon to out anybody since he knows from experience how tough it is to be openly gay, Korea has very intense anti-defamation laws that allow people to sue over statements that are considered damaging to their reputation, even if said statements are true. Outing an idol could easily fall into that category & might result in serious legal repercussions. Apocryphally that's one of the reasons Dispatch has never revealed any gay dating scandals. Tbh I'm neutral about RPS and kinda enjoyed stumbling upon the unhinged takes those two would post since it reminded me of late 00s/early 10s tumblr where people posted absolutely anything with no fear, but it was an inevitability that being THAT horny on main would blow up in their faces. Not a matter of if, just a matter of when. ZB1 fandom is really odd-- a lot of zeroses seem to ship Haobin but at the same time don't want to get tainted with the RPSer stigma. You see people claiming that Hao and Hanbin are soulmates/destined/perfect matches/etc, very romantic sentiments, but they always emphasize that they only mean it in a platonic besties way!! Then you have people who want to hide all hints of ZB1's past queerness and downplay Haobin to avoid hatred/scandals, who end up tacitly homophobic in the process. The whole "Hao imitating Hanbin's mother dance is offensive" thing from a few days ago was a good example of the latent homophobia lurking in certain parts of ZB1 fandom. A fandom with a lot of growing pains, for sure. (As for me, I'm just here for Ricky )

Doing my part to revive this thread, since I used to be quite active for a bit but then keeping up with most groups became too tiresome: Does anyone else think that the Exo members' faces stayed surprisingly constistent over the years and their procedures quite subtle compared to other SM senior artists? In honor of their recent comeback I fell down the rabbit hole again and rewatched a bunch of their old MVs for the first time in a while and it seems the most defining changes happened either predebut or during their first two years. Like I realized that Chen actually debuted with his original square jaw and only seemed to have his eyes done at debut (shame about the jaw, double eyelids alone already made him look enough like an idol) and Suho's nose job around Overdose was surprisingly obvious. Like I knew that happened but in direct comparison it kinda caught me off guard. Not that they didn't get anything else done over the course of their careers (some members *cough*Suho*cough* do tend to look a bit waxy at times), but compared to like, Taeyeon who was just mentioned I think they still look rather fresh and had genuinely good work done. This is not a dig at Taeyeon btw, she's my ultimate bias but by getting rid of most of her bone structure she manages to look somehow 16 and 40 at the same time imo. I just hope the need to look perfect doesn't get to the Exo members as they age and they keep their touch ups subtle. Might do a follow up post about the members if I feel like it, we haven't had one in many years.

I saw a TikTok yesterday that compared EXO's photos from 2013 and 2023, and the changes are really subtle. Mostly small eye tweaks, like epicanthoplasty, and fillers. Probably some nose refinements as well but it was hard to tell from the angle and the quality of the pictures. I'd say they got most of their work done pre-debut and judging by Baekhyun's or Chinese line's pre-debut pictures there was a LOT of it Someone here has to have a full list already or the free time to analyze all of the members

The bottom side-by-side pictures especially show the difference. If you cover the top half of her face (if you're on mobile, simply scroll the page so it's covered), the lower half of her mouth looks like two different people's. It's quite stark. In the first side-by-side, her face looks kind of... taut in the right one, almost like it was pulled or stretched back. Is it just a lot of Botox (plus filler?) that creates that effect? Sidetracking a bit; I remember the first time I saw an idol's face (j-hope, pics below) looking very tight, I didn't really know much about plastic surgery back then and I just kept thinking "Why does he look so weird? What happened? Why is his face pulled like that?? Why is no one talking about this??" lol

I don't remember if she was super active between the time IZ*ONE disbanded and IVE debuted, but she did have a long break when the Produce rigging scandal happened. Like the entire group laid low for months so it wouldn't surprise me that she (and some other IZ*ONE members) had something tweaked up during that time. I hope every idol who had works done would be given appropriate time to rest.

To revive this thread, do you guys wanna share which recent procedure shocked or surprised you the most? (You may interpret 'recent' as you like, I'm thinking maybe in the past year or so.) I myself am still sad about Hwasa's boob job! She looks really good now, granted, and her current boob size fits her frame. She also seems very happy with the results. But damn I miss her pear shaped body with the little tiddies. She looked absolutely divine. Additionally, it felt good to see my own body type represented on one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Her shape was just so charming and unique to me. During "I'm a 빛" promotions she was very skinny which kind of made her pear-shape even more evident (I've even suspected she went for the implants because during this promotion, she lost a lot of weight from her chest, too). Attaching twitter links below because can't be arsed to deal with uploading pics. To me, she looks absolutely divine in the above pictures. I do kind of understand how she might have felt that bigger boobs would "balance" her frame, and ultimately only her opinion and experience matters. Doesn't stop me from missing this Hwasa, though.

This is the kind of representation I'd expect from a straight guy tbh, we know they're more comfortable (although not always for the best reasons) with lesbian couples than with male gay couples. They dissolve partially with time but even if you go to your aesthetician to dissolve your filler, your lips are already deformed either way, especially if you've been filling your lips for a long time. In Yeonjun's case, even if he dissolves it all they will never look the same as before

do they? wasn't it discovered that they don't really dissolve, just migrate? pretty sure you have to get your filler dissolved professionally.

Did Yeonjun get his lip filler/lip implant removed? like does his top lip not look way way smaller than normal? (it looks more natural at least) I know it's not the same pose but compare his lips to these...

Mingyu still has a wider nostril base so yeah it's assumed it's natural or nearly so and is a good example of that shape to look for. He's pretty natural, irregardless if it is or not it all looks good, has maintained a soft hook/bump and has stayed consistent pretty much their entire career. I like that his freckle on his nose is becoming more and more noticable. And yes softer round more horizontal "o" nostrils are usually a sign it's natural or they didn't perform something on the nose to disrupt the nostril shape too much. When suddenly idols have "0" nostrils it usually means they've had work done to slim them or they elongated the tip/implant. That sharpness can heal and settle somewhat down softer though.

Chaeyeon had some of the most unnecessary and noticeable work done. A lot of it wasn't executed the way it should've been, imho. When you look at her face, it's clear what work she's done. Not to mention - they give her the wrong styling. Her hair colors, syles, even brows and skin lightening make her look so washed out. Meanwhile, I don't agree with what you said about her sister. She does not look totally unrecognizable. She looks like her predebut self, but enhanced. All of her work was successful and more subtle. Like, this is clearly the same girl? while Chaeyeon does look like a completely different person to me

I feel like the surgeries for her keep getting worse. The surgeries have become really noticeable, even to someone who has not followed her. Like everyone could tell she has done something to her face even if never seen her 'previous' pictures. The distance between her upper lip and nose tip change really threw her face balance off along with whatever she keeps doing to her lips. I know hindsight wont help but her really have should stopped at the latest in 2020. I feel bad for Chaeyeon, her sister keeps getting praised for visuals getting better (more suitable surgeries) but she is stuck trying to make improvements to her not so well-done surgeries. I've said it before but she should just let everything settle for awhile and then decide what to do. But it looks like she is going to fast cycle of surgeries and fillers which none of are doing her justice. (And the current hair washes her out so bad, like honestly i dont remember when i have seen as bad hair color match as hers)

Speaking of PD48 This is just sad. I always wonder what parents of all these celebrities think of such transformations, like imagine raising two kids and seeing both of them changing their faces to the point of looking totally unrecognizable

Reading those replies made me so sad. Like we know everything is edited to perfection in kpop, but seeing people think that that's not the case in honestly concerning. Like how far you have to be in denial that you would even consider that 5th comment Karina pic to not be edited. My faves get edited, your faves get edited. It's just a thing everyone should be aware. Idols are good looking people but they are not perfect porcelain ai-dolls. I'm personally never really connected to Winter's visuals but in the un-edited waving picture i think she looks so adorable and i see the charm. (in the other picture she looks way too skinny tho). Usually when i see fan-taken pics by non-fansites i find idols way more attractive than in fansite pics or overly edited journalist, concept pics etc.

This whole time I worried about his health so much. I've had someone in my life go through extreme weight loss all of a sudden without changing anything nor trying to lose weight and it turned out they had stage four cancer. I've always been worried about something like that happening to people around me since then. It was a huge shock. The person went from looking great to looking very slim but still good, to looking so sickly and gaunt. I have been worried about his overall health since he started losing weight rapidly too. I'm so glad he went to the doctor. Whatever the reason is, I just want him well.

Jun fits his nose so well. It looks higher and sharper than his predebut nose but combined with his huge eyes, sharp cheekbones, and that cat smile he has. it gives him a naturally unnatural look (like a manhwa character). Tbf aju nice is quite a long time ago so it’s not surprising for things to change but I think he’s been very consistent visually. The angularity of his face now kinda just looks like his predebut skinniness + the features he tweaked throughout his career. He’s been involved in lots of projects recently so I just hope he’s eating and sleeping well.

Deadass like there is absolutely nothing prettier about East Asian features vs south East Asian, they're just different because they are from a different region and I'm sick of people being so delusional in thinking otherwise. I have such beef with this lol and I'm glad Lisa and Minnie still look very much Thai even though of course they have had PS.

Oooh gotcha! I assumed you didn't! A lot of people just don't know since he got the work done predebut or think he's pretty natural so it's always fun to share. I do wish he kept his monolids/tapered eyelids, I always think they give idols a pretty owl or cat-like look, add a bit of "yang" to soft faces, but his work has been pretty successful and looks great, so I'd be very disappointed in any further crazy changes too. Luckily I don't think he would change much now since he's started getting interest in the fashion industry, being invited to fashion week. If he would, I feel like he'd already done it by now. I love what you mean by very dry face. The gaunt sharpness is very high fashion and editorial, any crazy filler would totally undermine that sculpted prince-y vibe. He was known as the "happy virus" gag member for so long, I know it's been known or considered as such for a lot of fans already but I'm glad the public has actually realized he's part of the group's visual line.

DK actually already did! Just long ago. He was one of the first members to get any overt work done, very young. He did eyes, eyelids and his nose. His nose was done pretty much predebut so there are some predebut and debut content with his new nose BUT in their old reality show in their practice room you can see his nose used to be bigger/softer. It used to have a more bulbous and downturned curved tip. He and Wonwoo actually looked pretty similar imo Looking at pictures I think he might have had his eyes opened up a little but kept monolids or at least tapered eyelids pretty far into debut, but got double eyelid surgery at some point, I think before Aju Nice. His double eyelid has historically been very very tight/small and close to his actual lash line so it can be hard to notice. I think we discussed on here the eyelid might have actually gone away at some point and had to be redone. His nose is not natural but I think it works in part because he had some natural projection already, it has some irregularity to it, and also curves/hooks when he smiles or laughs. I feel they also matched his nose to his other existing proportions/features which are very vertical and narrow. He used to be quite chubby/overweight as a kid in some very old predebut photos but but you can see that his features naturally leaned narrow despite the weight. A lot of idols go against their existing proportions or do the opposite in their nosejobs or facial changes and that's why it looks bad while his doesnt really look that bad despite it's severity. I honestly don't think he's fussed with his face much since, aside from lots of weight loss, so since his initial work and upkeep he's actually fallen into the camp of more "natural looking" / lesser work in SVT.
