  2. I don’t understand their thought process behind their self sabotage. They were only one song famous, had a shaky fandom foundation, no solid Korean fan base to go to bat for them and no recognisability as individuals, yet they decided to throw everything away by biting the hand that fed them. The more information we get, the more I feel bad for their CEO and frustrated at the girls for having it relatively easy and messing it all up.

  8. They were on the verge of really making it big but they let someone or something lead them astray. Now, they may become a cautionary tale and it's shocking.

  9. I’ve been on the Haobin is real train for a while, but it seems like Hanbin is super professional, so i think there’s also a decent chance they keep their relationship platonic/professional during their contract. I think they may have hooked up while BP was filming/before the finale when they didn’t know for sure if they would debut and before they signed any contract (may be a no dating within the company/group clause?).

  11. I prefer the weird yet unique hairstyles of the second gen male idols. They were interesting, and the idols pulled them off. Nowadays (and since the third gen, to be fair), all male idols' hair looks the same but with a different color. The only recent example I can think of as something unusual is Beomgyu's long hair. and I hope he goes back to this style Needless to say, by saying that I miss how make idols used to experiment with their hair before, I don't mean we go back to this tragedy

  18. His eyelids are def natural, especially since you can't surgically create triple eyelids (see the multiple folds when his eyes are slightly closed). My own double eyelids got thicker/puffy and more wrinkly like his with age (esp when I went from high school --> college). Agree with the usage of tape to make his natural eyelids less puffy (Shuhua mentions she does this too!). Also totally agree on the epicanthic folds getting cut, although I quite like it. It gave him his characteristic cat-eye look he is known for now.

  23. i understand majority of the lyOns on my tl are upset at the thought but realistically like 1) “ppl will continue to accuse them of queerbaiting” - ok and this happens every comeback anyways.. not like a bl drama will stop it 2) “it will bring in weird fans” - lmao this already happened as soon as libido was released let’s be honest 3) honestly as a dongari, it’s not that bad to be in a bl. the way dkz are doing things they’d never thought they’d be able to achieve because of semantic error like they won road to mcountdown and road to mama all the while, none of the members talked badly about how their member’s role is a same-gender relationship. which is better than when thai bl was starting out and bl actors were talking about how kissing men is weird yada yada not saying that every bl an idol stars in will provide the same results, but more and more idols are venturing into starring in bls and we should encourage that because hopefully it can change the image of doing a bl as something that is negative, desperate, last option type of thing

  25. I think it's because there's this sort of distance (if it's the right word to use) with western queer celebrities. And many fans also believe that it's not so due to the celebrity being queer that an idol is supporting them but rather due to their work and influence. On another hand, there's a much higher possibility that an idol posting a friendly message about a Korean queer artist could actually hang out with them in real life (like with Holland and Yeri) and this act of support would be viewed as more politically charged (for right or wrong). Maybe a fitting comparison would be that fans wouldn't care if a top female idol publicly expressed her liking to a western celebrity who happens to be a feminist while meltdowns would occur if the feminist celebrity was Korean instead.

  26. Yeri has shown to be friends with Holland. I know people from this thread would probably rather see someone from a top boygroup supporting him but tbh it's more likely that open support to an out Korean artist is going to come from a lowkey idol like Yeri than a very popular male idol with tons of (sometimes homophobic) fans who dream of marrying him.

  28. Can...I say something? I...When I first got into kpop, I thought Jo Kwon was out. I seriously thought that. I mean like OUT not "oh everyone knows". I thought the same about Key and Brian Joo. I thought it was a known thing about them. It wasn't. This was 2012. I really...thought that they were out and I was like "that's cool". It wasn't until I researched (I love researching) that I found out that wasn't the case. that's my little way of bringing the topic back around.

  30. I think that's why Taehyung was so furious about the whole thing, it wasn't just a het dating rumour. But ties in to a long history of alleging Taehyung is 'sponsored' (which in Kpop implies sexual favours) by Andrew Oh or Paradise Group or is a gold-digger with a sociopathic status need. There's such a lot of BS like that on LSA (about BTS as a whole) and Quora (Jikooker trolls). It's a smear campaign. Honestly I think both rumours are like wish-fulfilment for jealous anti-fans as if the most handsome, most popular member of BTS can't be in a normal, loving relationship, but must be involved in something shady. Edit: also rumours for Jimin and V always seem to involve more hypersexualisation than the rest of BTS. No one's saying Jin is 'sponsored' by those middle-aged celebrity chefs he likes to hang out with. Small flavour of homophobia there as if 'gay / bi rumours = sexually indiscriminate and unscrupulous'

  31. Taehyung is rumoured to be dating almost any woman he goes near, just like most male idols. I'm not saying he isn't interested in women (I definitely think he is part of the community, whether gay or bi etc) but people are so quick to believe it when it is a man and a woman, and then say we are delusional or reaching for thinking someone might not be straight.

  32. Joanna Chun? she'd be a catch for any idol, but her family seemed really pissed about the rumour, Taehyung seemed really pissed about the rumour and they were "spotted" at a public media reported event, not some secret meeting. Wouldn't you be more careful with your actual girlfriend? plus unless they broke up right away, would you deny so strongly? that would bite you in the ass so bad if you got discovered eventually. A no comment, or vague denial would have been much smarter in that case. he could be straight for all I know but I doubt he's dating her.

  35. Keeho gives me nothing but gay vibes. I feel like that's pretty settled? The whole "don't assume" thing is so tired, especially when idols don't try to hide it. And I would think they would like to know that they have fans who see that they are gay and are passionate and support them.
    1 point
  36. well yeah Keeho didn't straight up say he's LGBT, that's why i said borderline. it's just like a glass closet thing. he joked about being "heterosexual " (literally his words lmao) and liking girls for sure and there could've been truth to that, he also thirsted over guys, said he tried to get a sugar daddy/mommy, and had a BTS OTP. another time when asked his sexuality he said "yall wouldn't believe me if i said it tea" which ... make of that what you will idk. you def have to remember he was 15 at the time so i'm sure there's a lot of stuff he said just to be funny or to get attention but i think if the average person saw his curiouscat they'd assume he's queer so that's why i said what i said. personally, all things considered, i think he's bi.

  37. if you look at that one mmtg special of idols who are kpop fans or the ones who attended that one 2nd gen reunion also held by mmtg, quite a few of them are speculated here (seungkwan, key, minhyuk, ren, moonbin, daehwi) so

  38. honestly it's difficult to say as most gay men in korea stan ggs same as straight men, and for the upcoming gen who went to school during Exo/BTS/W1 domination era kpop bgs are definitely seen as cooler and more legitimate cultural icons than they were in the past. I agree it can be notable though, like Monsta X Minhyuk as a 'boy group expert' on mmtg saying that Chained Up by Vixx was one of his favorite songs/concepts.

  39. Ok this might be very random but I'm curious, am I the only one who kinda side-eyes idols who are big kpop fans themselves? I mean like most of them listen to lots of kpop but idols who are at the level that they buy albums, etc, so not just casual listeners. Or in general being big fans of same sex artists. I know lots of people really are only for the music and I'm not saying a man who likes boy groups is neccesarily gay, I'm just saying that most big fans are attracted to their favorite celebrities so this might be the case for idols too. Like Keeho who literally had a bts stan twitter. Of course he has other receipts on him too so that's not the only thing but still... a bts stan account. Sure a straight man could have one too but it's not rocket science to reach the conclusion that he might be gay. Or Yuto from Pentagon who admitted to watching Ateez fancams, dyed his hair purple inspired by Taemin, had Shinee albums in his studio, recently mentioned that 2pm's album was the first one he bought with his own money, and in an interview said that "he became an idol because he was amazed by the handsome men he saw on tv with his sister who was a kpop fan". Or I might just be projecting on them lol but I can't see it as not at least something to think about lol.

  40. From personal experience, a close friend watched 'Moonlight' with her homophobic dad on her dad's recommendation (!!). That doesn't make either of them queer, but it shows that even homophobes can enjoy queer media. That's why movies are a bit tricky when it comes to proof. I get it with Kevin from TBZ watching Pose, which is kinda niche, but with examples like CMBYN, which is quite mainstream, not so much. In any case, I'm glad the thread is being ressurected :') It's been a slow few weeks.

  41. Not trying to 'debunk' or argue with peoples interpretations at all but I'm curious as to why ppl see Vernon watching Moonlight with his mom as this huge inexplicable receipt as opposed to watching it normally? Do people think that he used the movie as a way to come out or that his mom was like 'son, you are gay so let's watch this R rated film together'? Like about 60% of Moonlight is about being gay and the other 40% is about growing up in a poor black neighborhood and dealing with a culture of toxic masculinity/drug addiction so idk how much middle class wasian Vernon relates to that. If it was a movie like 'Coming to you' a documentary about mothers of lgbt children I'd be sold. But as is I feel like it says more about his mom's comfort with such topics then Vernon specifically. Like it's a receipt absolutely I just don't get why the 'with his mom' part makes it gayer.
