EXO’s Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen’s legal representative announced that they filed a complaint to the Fair Trade Commission on June 4 against SM Entertainment for “abuse of superior bargaining position.” "SM's contracts are 7 years + 3 years overseas and when you add in military service (during which the contract is paused) the contract term is 12-13 years" "We requested that the commission levy strict corrective orders to SM and, furthermore, that a full investigation be made into all of SM artists’ contracts. In 2023, SM is continuing the actions that the commission had deemed as business malpractice in 2007 and 2011." "We hope that our courage and efforts will ensure the rights of our hoobaes (juniors) are protected and that we make a small contribution to a healthy change in the Pop industry." Clauses that have been previously judged improper by FTC but got violated by SM: Set the start date of the contract as the date of debut of entertainment activities and not from the signing of the contract. A contract period that is longer compared to the contract period of other agencies in the industry (3-5 yrs). Extended contract periods for trainees for reasons such as overseas expansion (SM adds 3 more years to the initial 7 years). Clauses that extend the contract by setting the contract ending as "end of the fifth anniversary of the release of the first album" or "end of the fifth anniversary of the date of appearance in a role at or above the supporting cast level". Clauses that extend the contract based on the number album releases without a minimum cap on the extension. source: 1, 2 Baekhyun shared his contract as evidence to show vague terms outlined in the members' contract: Theqoo: Lin Law Firm reveals that they have officially filed a complaint with Fair Trade Commission against SM and requested full investigation on SM's exclusive contracts - Seriously, do a full investigation.... they are such a company full of problems. - Aside from not giving them the settlement details, this is also a real problem. - Other SM stans are shielding SM LOL Are you sure that your own artists don't have a problem. - This is seriously a slave contract. It's crazy. - I hope this is the beginning of the search for rights for SM artists. I support your act of courage. - They will investigate, and if there is no problem, they will say there is no problem. Why are you fans already letting yourselves be controlled by the company? With this opportunity, as fans, I think it would be good to check if other artists were harmed as well. - They are doing full investigation, but why are fans of other artists scrambling here? Isn't this so nice? If there's a problem, isn't it good to fix it and do it fairly for your artists? - This is the situation where I see the idols are victims, so why are you on SM's side?? Investigation isn't bad for the idols. - Eh? I'm SM's idol stan and I thought it was cool of them to stand up for this. Just imagining that they don't pay my kids properly.. And isn't this the way to make them be transparent in the future... - I can't believe you have problem with them talking about other artists in general. Like you guys don't think such thing happens to your idols too? - I'm a SM's idol stan and what's wrong with a full investigation? - I'm a different SM's idol stan and I want to make sure my idols don't have slave contract like this. - If they have no problem, full investigation is no problem, right? Even if they do it, there's nothing to harm other artists, right? Why are the fans getting angry at the investigation, but not at the company? - There are so many SM employees here who work without getting paid LOL - No, I'd like to investigate and see if my idols are harmed... - The comments are so weird like they didn't mention any artist name though and is there any reason to be angry at a full investigation? - Isn't a full investigation good for other artists? - What's wrong with the comments? That's why SM is still doing all this. CBX is cool! They are taking the lead!! - I don't understand...Isn't it good to investigate and find out that the unfair contracts of the artists are unfair? Shouldn't we be thankful? I don't know if you are a fan of SM or a fan of idols. I don't even know if it's right that you are SM fans. - Of course, they have to do a full investigation. My idol is from SM too, so thank you. - Seriously this is really like SM's gaslighting level. That's why SM has been the same all this while. source these are the positive comments, the korean websites are currently filled with hateful comments against CBX. "Around December of 2022, EXO members received a renewal letter from SM that added five years to the initial contracts (12-13 years), totaling 17-18 years. We requested adjustments 8 times but SM did not accept them. There was a steadfast refusal to accept any change and in the end, almost none of the requests were included. At the time, SM said that they wanted all members to make the choice to renew together. They said to Bakehyun (who was serving in the military), you need to sign so the other members can get paid. He was told he could cancel the new contract at any time because the renewal has not yet been activated. In order to keep EXO’s activities continuing without interruption, Baekhyun had no choice but to renew even though he had a year left on his initial contract. Baekhyun signed the new contract out of loyalty to his members and to protect the team EXO." "We were puzzled by the suddenness and the haste at which the contract was renewed when there was more than a year left. After the renewal, there were several stories in the media over the SM takeover battle (by Kakao or Hybe) and we couldn’t help but wonder is that why they pulled out the contract and had us renew with a year left." For EXO's fans: "If someone is taking advantage of the memories, love, youth, hard work, and passion that the members and fans have shared for 11 years, this should be corrected. We have shared joy, anger, and sorrow with the members for half of our lives. We will never betray such members and we will put EXO first in any situation." Additionally: "On 8 AM on 5 Jun, SM distributed a press release saying it would provide a copy of the settlement data. However, as of the close of business at 6 PM, SM has not provided any settlement data saying that the reports are not ready yet." source: 1, 2, [Theqoo]: CBX's new statement - What they told Baekhyun is obviously gaslighting. - Really I'm not even a fan and I'm not interested in them, but it's suspicious that they are being criticized like this.. The post is that long, but why are you bashing them and telling them to leave in less than a minute.. - I cheer for the 3. - That they told Baekhyun that he had to sign so that the members could receive deposit is truly gaslighting. - Is everyone leaving a comment after reading everything? I'm reading the post and I want to ask how long does it take to read it all.. Why do you guys appear like trolls?? - Just my personal opinion but I think CBX should consider changing their lawyer before going to court. Hwaiting anyway! - I read the article and understand though. It's better to wait before criticizing any side. - Is SM pulling out all their part-time staff? - If you read the comments, there's a difference between workers and non-workers LOL. - But I don't know much, so I won't say much.. It's so scary that the reaction in the comment section is different whenever there are new posts. I wonder if everyone understands the whole situation and is reading all the content? At first, you guys said SM played emotional appeal, but now you said CBX is playing emotional appeal.. Everyone, be careful not to let the public opinion manipulate you! - Woah... seeing you blaming these three people even after reading this post, I can't help but wonder if it's SM's staff. - Just take legal action. If they felt that the contract they already signed was unfair, and if they wanted to terminate it now, the only way is to file a lawsuit... SM have been like that for a long time, they take advantage of trainees and make the trainees sign an additional three-year contract without a detailed plan... It's the situation where I can't trust the company, so I won't hold it anymore.. Anyway the only option is to file lawsuit. - SM is famous for gaslighting.. They don't change. - Eh no but why do you feel sorry for the employees (who have to prepare the settlement data)? They should have been prepared and revealed it, but they didn't prepare the data and didn't give it to the media press. They only said they would provide but they don't. I wonder why they don't give it to the lawyer. - Look at all the comments. They are really so funny. Don't all idols from other companies re-sign for 7 years? LOL Why is it still fair that SM insists with 10 years for the same purpose? - If I were a fan, and when I heard SM saying Baekhyun had to sign a contract so that the other members can get this much deposit, I would feel sorry for Baekhyun too and I would be angry at SM who treats other members like that first, but I'm shocked at the reactions here. - The comments are going the way SM wants. They work hard today. source CITY LIGHTS the 1st mini album : Apple Music - Itunes - Spotify - deezer - pandora - Melon - Genie - Vibe Naver -1 point

it's wild, shawols have a tendency to over compensate when they're trying to be "protective" of the members but I think it's totally fair to wonder why he would drop so much weight in a relatively short period and why he would feel the need to do that as a senior idol who had success at a more normal weight. Aside from the fact that he's going into their big comeback being sort of unrecognizable it actually makes me wonder whether something's wrong medically. I kind of can't believe it isn't being talked about more apart from on here.1 point

I don't know, did you lie? And by that I mean are you actually playing dumb or are you not playing? Because it's impossible for these particular characters to be anything other than white Europeans, and it doesn't take a genius to reach this conclusion. I'm using the perfectly valid "it's Europe!!" argument because the story takes place in post-medieval Central Europe, which is not only extremely pertinent but also equally evident if you have ever actually SEEN Disney's animated version... or really any version. Snow White? Like it or not, but she was named that for an actual reason. Her skin being "white as snow" is literally a plot point. I'm sorry you think these are minor details, but they are not. Would you have been fine with the live-action remake of Mulan starring a white woman? Maybe Scarlett Johansson? No? Didn't think so. Don't try to make me sound racist just because I don't want a nonsensically unfaithful adaptation due to something as basic as casting. You don't get to use the "she's a fish!!" excuse here.1 point

Yeah, let's just conveniently ignore the fact that the characters in this story (and the origin of the story itself) are emphatically EUROPEAN. If we ever invent time travel during our lifetimes, I want you to go back to 16th century Germany and try explaining to them what the hell a "BIPOC" is.1 point

As someone who has defended Halle Bailey repeatedly for The Little Mermaid, in Snow White's case, the character's fair skin is a crucial part of the character and a motif of the story. We can be flexible and put a fair skinned character that is not necessarily white (they can be pale East Asian), and even that would be stretching it bc "Snow WHITE", you know. Overall, leave characters whose race is crucial to the story and historical characters untouched. Or... start making newer diverse work so actors are not subjected to racism. These constant remakes are blatant cash grabs. If A24 didn't exist Hollywood would be shit.1 point

Why even bother using the snow white IP if you're just gonna rewrite everything about the story...because they know their idea would flop without the name recognition.1 point

Disney stays on whatever agenda is currently being pushed, appealing to the sensitives, broken feminism, and other ridiculous ideas. Everything that they are changing is what made the movie what it was even making Snow White "colored". Like what was said, if so much is changed why not just create something new, plus we need our own, not changing white princesses into black ones because there's is already an idea/image associated with those princesses. Honestly, I don't even claim Princesses and the Frog, she was originally white too and she stayed a frog the whole movie ridiculous.1 point

disney live actions are getting worse and worse in my opinion recently the only one i kind liked was the peter pan live action but only bc this time they didn't tried to make peter look like he was the good guy. we all know that he was twisted and creepy in the original tale version. Said that, i noticed this is the main problem with disney live actions. it seems to me they are trying to appeal to everyone and taking things from the original source and then no one like the end result (not the fans of the original story and much less the fans of the disney version) they completly ruined mulan for me bc of that. we like mulan bc she tried hard and didn't give up not bc she was the chosen one and have chi or whatever it was i usually don't mind with 456785678 versions and alterations of tales of cinderella, snow white, etc created by other studios but this is disney and you expect them to be as faithful as possible as their own version bc that is what people that grew up with the cartoon liked so i dont get their choices for some things they changed And then there is also the "problem" of they are trying to be more representability, which their old tales' animation clearly don't have. i usually don't have much problem with it but sometimes i think they are trying too hard to be inclusive and piss eveyone with it if they are so desperate to have representativity in their movies, i would be interested to see a live action of "the princess and the frog" but partially scared they would changed things for stupid motives Anyway, i just think it would be better if they just create new stories instead of continuing wrongly adapt their own version of tales1 point
