tbh I feel it's largely a way for them to distinguish themselves from 'casual/solo' Taemin fans who became interested in him/shinee post move/during the military hiatus. His solo work obviously has a lot of queer undertones that even kfans acknowledge, so by pointing to the straight things he's said or done they can demonstrate that they know him better than the people who just casually listen to his music/have seen the Taemin x Jimin memes. Taemin also went through a phase in which he was (understandably) very defensive of his masculinity and many older fans still feel the same defensiveness over anything seen as feminizing Taemin and that attitude/those clips can still be shared with newer fans. Additionally Taemin is much more into creating a 'bf persona' than the other members and his fans are 90% female so he's obviously flirts with female fans a lot. However, I think the if you were somehow able to poll all shawols on the gayness of members based on my fandom experience it would be key > jonghyun >>>>> taemin > minho > onew. I think there are more viral tweets calling Taemin the straightest member precisely because there is a decent number of people who see him otherwise and it is seen as more 'exciting' opinion than saying the same about credible het dating rumors Onew or sports-obsessed Minho whose asking for a baby mama on tv. Also since having gay moments is a positive in the context of online western kpop fandom claiming one of the most popular members is the straightest is often a way to try to get people to pay attention to the rest of the group/the less popular members. Not to say that shawols don't genuinely think Taemin is straight or that there aren't reason to think that (bc there are) but I think the 'straightest member' tweets have a lot to with fandom dynamics rather than one clear piece of evidence. -
