So I've updated this topic by actually doing this for all of 2011 and 2012 too.

Since I like to dig up statistics on how things actually are and I'm totally allergic to all mediaplay I've decided to go investigate how much that different Korean and Japanese albums actually sell in Taiwan.
So I went number crunching on the weekly rankings that G-Music publish: http://www.g-music.c...Billboard3.aspx. G-Music publish a weekly top-20 and the % for each CD. They don't publish any sales numbers. However, since they publish the sales % for 20 CDs, it's easy to back out what the actual sales numbers must have been for it to add up, which is what I did.

As I did this, it became very obvious that CD sales in Taiwan has been going down lots again (CD sales in Taiwan went down with like 89% from 1997 to 2008, but they then were stable 2008-2010, but they have now dropped a lot again during 2011-2013). This can be seen in this graph:
taiwan20112013.jpg

Note:
some figures may be slightly off due to mistakes by me. These are my estimates.
figures are only including the sales of the top-20 each week.

please also note that g-music is not the only one selling CDs in Taiwan.

Spoiler

So, here are the total CD sales per artist and album during the 2011, 2012 and the first 18 weeks of 2013 at G-Music (no I ain't gonna translate it to English):

Total sales by ARTIST:

Spoiler

Total sales by CD:

Note: there are different versions of some CDs (like Korean version vs Taiwanese version, CD+DVD version vs CD only version, etc etc)

Spoiler

The sales #'s are so low that this isn't even thread worthy.

I know Boyfriend aren't the most popular group but this is totally not right

But it is right.

To corroborate my results, I checked for the 5 weeks of week 37 to 41 during 2012, which were the first 5 weeks of Jolin Tsai's new album "Muse".

And the result I got was that her sales on G-music for those weeks were 2,045+2,887+3,415+5,192+3,446.

But that album continued to top the chart for like another 10 weeks straight. Not gonna do all the remaining 11 weeks of 2012, but my guess is that that album sold like 35,000 copies on G-Music in 2012.

And according to this site, the album sold a total of 108,000 albums in Taiwan in 2012: http://jolinjenerati...0/26110942.html

Which clearly indicates that the numbers I backed out are pretty accurate and that G-music is a considerable part of the total music sales in Taiwan.

those values are very little.

Yes. Which kind of is half of the point. Shit becomes pretty fucking hilarious when YG is mediaplaying about Lee Hi topping a chart in Taiwan when in reality it means that she's sold 32 CDs.

Which IGAB is the Taiwan version, the 1045 or the 214 one?

The 214 is the Korean and 1045 is the Taiwanese one.

The Taiwan one was released 4 weeks after the Korean one. But looking at the stats, it seems like the Korean one was sold out in most G-music stores right away so sales during week 2-4 were low. Week by week:

That's the point of the thread.

Interesting. Thank you.

I remember all the SM distribution fails lol.

Oh there be too many to count. Most kpop acts have news articles about how they're sweeping the charts in Taiwan.

Are you really unable to read?

I clearly said that it was estimated sales at G-Music, which is one of the main CD retail store chains in Taiwan.

The total numbers I estimated for 2011 and 2012 were:
2011: 772,668 (2 weeks missing)
2012: 484,160 (2 weeks missing)

Meanwhile, IFPI is reporting that total sales in Taiwan were:
2011: 3,769,920
2012: 3,045,660

And the total number I estimated is for sales in G-Music (and only including the top-20 each week and missing 2 weeks per year).

The total number reported by IFPI is total reported net shipments in Taiwan.

G-market is a company in Korea. G-Music is a company in Taiwan.

The topic already says G-music.

The tags already says G-music.

The picture I drew already says G-music.

The OP already says G-music 8 times.

Do I really have to be more explicit? :._.:

That right there makes it seem you're refuting the IFPI's numbers. It's unclear.
